On my "home" PC running Windows XP Pro and Windows Movie Maker 2.1.4026.0,
when I want to capture video from my DV camera, the "Best quality for
playback on my computer (recommended)" is set to this:

File type: WMV
Bit rate: 512Kbps
Display size: 320x240
Frames per second: 30

On my "work" and any other PC running Window XP Pro, the same "Best quality
for playback on my computer (recommended)" setting is this, which seems much
better as a default:

File type: WMV
Bit rate: 2.1Mbps <= better
Display size: 640x480 <= better
Aspect ratio: 4:3 <= this missing in WMM on my home PC
Frames per second: 30

Why are the default settings different and how can I change the "Best
quality for playback on my computer (recommended)" setting?

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Cheers,
Derek

Start by checking all the files for 2.1 are installed correctly, see Dean
Rowe's blog linked from here.

Thank you for the tip, Graham. I will give it a try and report back if it
resolves the issue.

Thanks again,
Derek
