    - How to avoid "Automovie" effects I use Sketchup 3D modeling software to model and animate flythroughs of buildings. It creates finished high quality AVI files. All I want is to add background music (WMA or MP3) and titles. That's all. Don't want any video effects. What software do you recommend?     - confused about which decoding program to download I am trying to convert .avi file so that it can be used in Movie Maker (otherwise clips don't work and I get error messages: I used GSpot and found out that the .avi file is OpenDML AVI file. The following codecs all claim to be capable of processing this format: --> {DivX ;-) MPEG-4 Low-Motion} {3ivx D4 Video Decoder} {InterVideo MPEG4 Video Decoder} {DivX MPEG-4 DVD Video Decompressor } DirectShow is apparently able to play the file as well (see "DirectShow Render", below), The following codecs all claim to be capable of processing this format: --> {Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec (professional)} --> {Lame MP3 Encoder ACM Codec} {ffdshow Audio Decoder} --> {MPEG Layer-3 Decoder} DirectShow was also able to find a codec to render it - the sound for this media clip should work fine. See the DirectShow Render details for more info. More info (after rendering): DirectShow claims to be able to play the file.     - Slow CD burning I spent about a week editing a movie I shot with the help of my camcorder on Movie Maker 2. The movie is quite long and even after editing, goes for about 1 hour 10 minutes. When I put a blank CD in and started burning, why did it say that it is going to take approx. 230 minutes to finish the job? I accept the fact that the movie is long, but why almost 4 hours?     - Importing a video to movie maker Hi I have recored a video utilizing Hitachi dzmv730a camcorder which utilizes mini dvd-r discs. Once I finalized the disc and put into my computer windows media player automatically runs the video. If I open movie maker and try to import it from my d drive it seems not to reconginize that there is a movie on the dvd.     - Movie Files Very Dark Greetings! I apologize for the redundancy of this post, but I posted a similar question several months ago, and now can't find it. THIS TIME I'm noting where and when I'm posting... Anyway, I'm using Movie Maker with Windows XP Home Edition. When I capture the Digital 8 video from my Sony Handycam, using USB streaming, the clips are very dark and somewhat jumpy. When I posted this before, whoever replied (thanks, by the way) said that I shouldn't be using USB, that I should be using something else. I don't know what the other thing was; now I'm looking for a new system, and I want to make sure that if a port, cabling, or other hardware is necessary, that I include it when I get the new system.     - Movie Maker crashes and gives error messages-please help! I'm trying to make music video using videoclips from .avi file which has video and sound (the file is 685 MB). I created clips by using 'split' option and clips work fine by themselves, but when I put them on timeline, they don't work together-Movie Maker freezes and crashes. I also imported audio file (song-mp3 file) and made it so that combined length of videoclips and the audio/music fit together), and I was able to save file as MSWMM file, but whenever I tried to save it as wmv (movie) file I keep getting message 'Can't save it as a movie file, because clips have been modified after importing or are missing'. Then I tried creating clips by importing file automatically and then adding same audio/music file and I was able to save file as MSWMM file, but whenever I tried to save it as wmv (movie) file I also keep getting message 'Can't save it as a movie file, because clips have been modified after importing or are missing'. I have done full system anti-virus scans and full system spyware scans and I didn't find anything corrupt/infected. I had done everything according to the4 instructions in the 'help' section of Movie Maker and I also followed aqll the instructions of creating a movie using Movie Maker in utorial for beginners on this site and I looked through other tutorials, but I couldn't find the source of the problem and the solution to the problem.     - Unable to play and edit .mpg clips in my movie.. Please help...I am in a time crunch. I am making a composition video for a school basketball team using both DV clips and still pics. This is my first time using video clips. I have the clips captured (ULEAD pro 7.0) , I can import the clips into mm2 and place them in the timeline. When I captured the video, I used the video only and skipped the audio with my plan to dub over an audio track later. I see the clip in the timeline, but when I try to watch (edit) it, the screen goes black. I apologize now if the answer is in the additional 64 pages of posts, (If it is, and you know where to find it...let me know.) but I don't have the time to read every previous post.     - TWO + WASTED DAYS! I spent the last 2 + days editing a movie using Movie Maker. Only experienced about 9 system lock-ups, strange happenings, etc. which I consider successful for this piece of $#&* code. Well the last error "LOST ALL MY WORK", prior to that I would either restart the system or MM, the system would start and ask about a file that was saved, nice touch. It appears what has happened was at the previous restart and file message, after restoring the saved file, MM erased the backup file, ergo no backup until another automatic save. It seems that anytime we try to move the movie (and clips) to a different location from the one in which it was created, it will not run (Xs replace the individual clips).     - DVD Burning I tried to burn a DVD and got a failure. I used a Maxell DVD+RW "Up to 4X, 4.7GB 2 hrs." I tried again using Maxell DVD-R "Up to 8X, 4.7GB 2 hrs." This was successful.     - MPEG2 Not Windows Movie Maker choked when I imported an MPEG2 file. So I search Microsoft's support and found the note about WMM not be able to import MPEG2 files even if Windows Media Player could play them. It suggested that Windows Media Encoder would be able to convert the file. I downloaded and installed WME. I tried using the wizard but when I clicked on finish WME just disappeared. I then skipped the wizard and tried manually defining the input and conversion. When I hit apply WME hung. It would not repaint. It did respond to the minimize button but it would not close. When I tried using Task Manager to kill it the dialog box that asks if you want to send a report about why you had to kill a program popped up but WME didn't go away. It wasn't using any CPU cycles so I just minimized it until I could log out and reboot. The file was created on the same machine with Video Redo Plus editing a clip. I just wanted to convert it to an WMV file to put on a web site. I can run it through Nero first to convert to an MPEG1 but that shouldn't be necessary.     - Save as .avi not dv-avi All the posts about avi files seem to relate to the dv-avi for use with camcorders. I just want to save my movie as an .avi file for storage on my CPU (without it being 40G). Is this possible? I have other feature length movies which are at most 1.5G and yet when I tried to join two 714M clips it was going to be nearly 40G to save as a dv-avi.     - firewire and WMM Hi, I'm new to WMM and to camcorders, and video in general. I have a brand new WinXP pro SP2 systyem. I just purchased a Panasonic PV-GS150--used. It appears to be in good shape. And I can record and transfer the video to WMM via usb just fine. But I also got a DV-firewire cable. When I try to transfer my video to WMM with the firewire connection, WMM says "A video capture device was not detected...." I called Panasonic techsupport and they told me that they didn't think the problem was in the camera but rather in the sdoftware. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem? Is WMM capable of capturing video over a DV-firewire cable?     - No sound capturing AV from VCR Hi, I am new to Movie Maker and am becoming frustrated! Running XP MCE 2005 with Hauppauge 150MCE PCI card. I have connected a VCR to the AV inputs on the 150. Using the Hauppauge apps I can view and hear a playing tape. Using Movie Maker I can see the video but there is no sound. I get the video from my sat no problem through the system, but want to capture some video through this device. Hello. . .I have a completed WMM project ready for burning. It's done in
high quality (large) format. Last time i burned a project it took roughly
nine hours for a 1 hr 17min DVD. I used Ulead videostudio 9. While i am new
to this i am looking to step up my game a little. Can anyone give me
suggestions on how to decrease my burn time without losing quality? Also, i
have software installed called gorgian knot. What the hell does it do? I
dont have a clue on how to use it!

Well there really isn't much you can do about the burn time unfortunately
without compromising the quality. Just let'er run :)

I found "Gordian Knot" but not "Gorgian Knot" Gordian Knot is a Divx
encoding program.
Can't tell you much other than that since I don't use it.
