I using moviemaker 5.1. I import an mpg file into my collections. When
I play the clip in MM (and in media player) the audio is fine. When I
drag the clip down to the timeline and play this, there's no audio.

I can click back up on the movie clip and play and get audio just fine.
It's only on the timeline the audio doesn't play. If I expand the
timeline I can see the audio block with the oscilloscope like display.

What can I look for?

MM does not work well with mpeg files, convert it to an avi or wmv

Thank's for the quick response. What is the best way to convert files?
Do you know of any freeware converters?

Thanks, but no go. All the trial/demo apps either limit the conversion
to 50% if the input or place a watermark in the middle of converted file.

If I have to buy something to make MM work, I might as well buy a video
editor that works and dump Microsoft (like I have most of my other
applications).

If you want to work with MPEG-2 files, then you'll have to pay for
software.... the codec is licensed and there's a licensing fee.

You can stay in the free zone by not using MPEG-2 files.

The files I'm trying to work with were given to me, so I'm stuck with
them. Thanks for all your help though.
