    - AVI-file probleme When I try to capture a video, in Windows Movie Maker 2, from my Canon MV3i everything works until itâ??s time to save the clip. I get an error message saying, â??Filname.AVI was not possible to import. The chosen file is not valid or brokenâ??. (All error messages in this text are translated from Swedish, maybe not the same wording as in the English error message) But the file is still there, saved. If I try to import an already saved file I got an error message saying, â??Filname.AVI can not be imported. The chosen file is not valid or brokenâ??. I have not had these problems with the AVI-files in media player etc in windows 2000. If I try to open an AVI-file with Media Player (v.9) I got an error message saying, â??It was not possible to load the source filter for this fileâ??(error code 0x80040241). I can use the files in Premiere 6.5 so they are not broken. I have used many of the AVI-files with W2000 so I know that they are OK. I canâ??t import these files, with error message in WMM, in Premiere (error message: the file is of an unsupported type I have used Adobe Premiere 6.0 with Windows 2000 before, without these problems. When I update to Windows XP professional and Premiere 6.5 these problems occurs. I do a mistake first and tried to use Pinnacle DV200 to capture before I find out that it not was XP compatible. I uninstall Pinnacle DV200 and have used RegCleaner to remove everything. Have still an Icon in the Control Panel named â??Pinnacle System Controlâ?? but when I open it I get an error message saying, â??No valid Pinnacle Systems products were detectedâ??. How to delete it I will now try to run the Premiere 6.5 alone. That works but I have a stuttering pictures in the windows in the program, not in the camera monitor. When I print the captured video to the tape again it works well but the windows in Premiere donâ??t works well. The result is OK but it is not so good to work with these stuttering windows I have tried with another Fire wire capture card but same problems remains. I have updated the system with all applicable updates in windows update My computer has a Pentium III processor with 512 MB RAM and an extra fast hard disk My question is if all these problems are linked together?     - Sound goes AWOL when saving to computer Sorry if I am asking a question that is a common one, but I have searched through both Papajohn.org and googled on this without finding any solution to my problem: The sound on my projects goes missing when saving the movie to the computer... I have sound in the preview, the sound get transferred to my computer and everything looks and sounds OK until I play the finished file. This usually happens after me inserting text onto a clip, but the sound might also disappear without me finding any reason.     - Audio pops at cuts and transitions This subject has come up several times on this NG. I was doing some background reading on the DV format and came across the following paragraph: Although the format supports high quality sound, DV's audio is unlocked. This non-synchronous design means that a specific number of audio samples are not rigidly synchronized to each video frame. If one frame is off a couple samples, you must insert a short mute at any audio edit or risk inducing an audible click. (source: 213.84.219.66/Documentatie/dv_explained.pdf ) It made me wonder if the phenomenon is a result of the way audio is encoded within the DV format, and the way MM2 handles it? I know that the MM2 edit space is not the full 25fps (PAL), but something more like 12.5fps (or 15fps NTSC), so I wondered if this could somehow lead to the audible pops that I hear at cuts and transitions.     - No music in record to DV I have made a short film comprised only of still photos (with effects and transitions). I placed music in the audio/music track and saved the file. Everything works except when I try to record it out to the Digital Video Camera, a Sony DCR-TRV520. I get the video portion fine but no audio at all. I have tried changing the audio record rate to 16 bit on the camera but that didn't help.     - Can't pull clips into storyboard My son created a storyboard in Video Maker. Somehow, he's done something so that all the clips in the storyboard now show up as red X's. If I right click on these clips and look at Properties, I find that they have filenames and are located in the Collections area of the application. But the software for some reason no longer can pull the clips into the storyboard. My son may have inadvertently deleted a handful of clips that were part of the storyboard, but the majority of the clips can be found in Collections.     - Video Capture Device Not Seen by MovieMaker Hi, I have a TDK IndiCapture USB 2.0 capture device. The device came with ShowBiz Capture/editing software. ShowBiz works fine and can capture with no problems. I've tried using MovieMaker for a comparison of software usability but MovieMaker does not recognize the capture device.     - changing brightness/contrast I know that to change the brightness/contrast of a video I need to configure the capture device settings before I capture the video. The help file says that the first screen that should appear when I go to the video capture wizard is a list of devices and from here I can configure my camera to change the brightness and contrast settings. However, it detects my camera automatically and when I go to the video capture wizard it skips over the first dialog box where I can configure the capture device and goes straight to the place where I choose a location and file name!     - Capturing Profile not Found Thank you for reading... I'm trying to import (capture) a movie from a Sony Digital camcoder to my Sony PC RZ34. I'm using a digital D8mm and Hi8mm tapes and my camera is conneted via firewire to my pc. When I turn on my camare to play function (VCR) Windows XP detecs the camera and the import wizard starts automatically. When I click next on the capture video wizard, I get an error message "Capturing profile not found"... I have tryed everything.     - Recording video and writing to DVD I need some guidance, I'm pretty new at this. I will be recording video, about 20 to 30 hrs worth and ultimately I want to burn it to a dvd (multiple dvds) so that it can be played back either on a TV or a computer (the image has to be fairly large). I'm not sure what the best process is but I'm thinking I can use MovieMaker to record AVI files, then I'm not sure if I should burn vcd files, or mp3 files (I don't fully understand the advantages/disadvantages of one over the other). I've never done either one before and I'm looking for the simplest process that maintains the audio/video streams in sync, and creates a large TV size (or nearly TV size) image on playback.     - import of mp2 format I am having a problem importing a movie that is in mp2 format that I created with my ATI software. I can play the movie back fine in the ATI player, but if I try and play it in Windows Media Player or import into Movei Maker it says File is empty. If I try and play it in WMP then I get a error and asks me if I want to send a report to Microsoft. I am thinking that possibly I need a codec, but am not sure. I have checked to see that my system is updated using the Windows Updates, but I have everything. I also made sure the media player is up to date as well.     - I can't open up a MM2 project in Click to DVD I have spent many hours trying to figure this one issue out! The newer versions of the video I am making and saving are called a "windows movie maker project." And despite trying everything I can think of I can not get it listed as a "video clip" and a video file (mpg. avi...). So in essance I somehow I did it right once and have no idea how I did it!     - MM does not recognize capture card I have a Pinnacle AV/DV capture card which I got with Studio Deluxe package. The card is a FireWire card that has a breakout box to capture analog video. This capture card works and is recognized in Studio 8 software as a valid capture device, but when I try to run MM2 and capture video with it, it does not show up in the list of available capture devices. The only thing MM2 sees as a capture device is my Veo webcam. Pinnacle Studio 8 is a great program and I like it a lot, but I thought I'd play around with MM2 a bit to see what it can do - maybe fix the audio/video synch problem with Studio.     - What File Format should I save to in order to create a DVD? At the risk of making people mad with another request to explain this... I am using WMM2 to create a movie. WOW I love the program. Now that I have my movie in a project file, ready to save, then to burn into DVD format I just want to know what file format I should save to. I have Roxio Easy CD/DVD creator which was bundled with my burner. My capture device is a Dazzle USB, which though not totally compatible with WINXP, does capture the video. Should I shell out some bucks and get some other software? If so, please let me know what to look for.     - Video Capture Plays Back Too Fast I purchased a new Dell system several months back with a DVD burner and supposedly everything I needed to do video capture and editing. I am trying to use Windows Movie Maker 2, but I'm having a problem. WMM recognizes my camera (Canon ZR40 - Mini DV format) and when I start the capture, I can see the video footage through the camera's display. However, if I capture five minutes worth of video, when I play it back it plays as if it is in fast forward -- the five minutes of video takes just a few seconds to play. I have been trying to research this problem for months. I found this in the Microsoft Knowledge base (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;814837), but I don't think this is my problem. It says that this may occur if you have an outdated version of WinDVD -- I have no version of WinDVD. To me this also implies that any video clip plays back this way. I only have this problem playing back video I have captured -- other video clips play back fine. Also, if I save the clip I captured, it plays back in other programs at the accelerated speed. I tried talking with Dell tech support, but they kept telling me this was my problem and I would have to purchase WinDVD in order to make Windows Movie Maker work correctly. It is hard for me to believe that Microsoft would make a software that depended on another company's software to work. If WinDVD is required for WMM to work, then it should be included with WMM.     - How to capture video from a Sony DCR-DVD100 camcorder I recently bought a Sony DCR-DVD100 camcorder. It connects to my computer through a USB port. I am able to watch the video in Windows media player, but when I try to edit it in Windows Movie Maker it only recognizes the sound and leaves the video blank.     - S.O.S b4 despair with VCD and MM2... Hi, whoever is out there... For nearly 10 days I've been trying to master finally the technique of video capturing and editing via Movie Maker 2. I've finalised the project, saved it to my hard drive....and now want to get it on a CD -R/RW to send to friends, so they can watch it on their standalone DVD player... Well, that's where I am stuck as all burnt CDs so far do not play on a DVD yet, what ever I do... I rendered it now even in AVI format (10GB for 40 min film) and tried to burn it via Nero (60 days trial version), but still no luck and it comes out as a DAT file, which even movie or media player can't read anymore... Don't know, where the missing link is. My standalone DVD is a Panasonic S35, which according to instructions plays VCD,SVCD,DVDs etc... Any Merlin Whizard around to save me from going insane...? I have been capturing video from TV via a Hauppauge PCI card. I am finding that when I edit out the commercials and then try to replay the resulting movie, the audio get out of sync with the video. Anyone experienced this? Is there a way to resync the audio?
