    - Editing Question I'm a newbie (so bare with me).... I have 2 individual AVIs. The movie I want to create will have some of the 1st, some of the 2nd, some of the 1st, etc. (i.e. mixed in with each other). I guess my question would be: What is the easiest way of getting the 'piece' I want out of the AVI into the timeline? In my playing over the weekend it seemed like I had to adjust the handles on the clip when it was on the time line then delete it out.     - Save a .wmv file after trimming, without re-encoding?? This involves the same project I just discussed in another post, but a different problem I had. After encoding the file (ripped from DVD) to .wmv (using Windows Media Encoder), I discovered that an extra hour had been added to the video! At the beginning of the video, it just stays stuck on the first frame for an hour, before starting the actual movie. The total film length (on the .wmv) is exactly an hour longer than the original film. Strange, anyone know why that might have happened? Regardless, easy enough to cut off that hour in Windows Movie Maker, to set the beginning trim point where the real movie starts. The problem is, what to do then? Of course, I want to save the .wmv with that change, with the extra hour trimmed off. But when I click on "save movie file", it looks like it wants to re-encode the whole movie, asks me about encoding options, etc. I do not want to re-encode the movie, just save it as presently encoded, with that extra hour deleted. Is there any way to do that, to save an existing .wmv file which had been altered, without re-encoding it? Or is that the only way to do it? Thanks again for your help. Tag: ATI AIW in MM2 Tag: 6512

    - Adding subtitles to a .wmv?? In this case, a movie from a DVD which I bought and own, but want to also be able to watch on my PPC. I was able to rip the DVD files with DVD decrypter, and convert the video to a .wmv file, and the audio to a .wma file (both formatted for PPC). It looks like I can stream the audio and video together using Windows Media Stream Editor. I was finally able to rip the subtitles too, into a .sub file. But I cannot see any way to convert that into a format accepted by the Windows Media Stream Editor, which seems to only open wma, .wmv, and .asf files.     - Muting the sound on a video clip, so only the audio clip sound plays I am able to change the balance between the sound from the video clip and the sound on the added audio/music clip, but only by changing the balance for the entire project. I have a few clips in my film where I want to override the sound that was originally recorded with the video, and have only the sound form my added audio clip play. If I keep my audio levels in the middle (this function seems to effect the entire project) and increase the volume of my added audio clip, this drowns out the video sound...but it's very loud and distorted. If I put the audio levels all the way to the audio/music side...those few clips are fine...but he rest of my film is silent. Am I missing something, or is this just a limitation to the software?     - My MM2 Crashing Solved I was able to solve my crashing (white box of death) right after startup of MM2 by uninstalling a windvd add on i had added called dvd xpack, which was supposed to: "The DVD XPack instantly adds DVD playback to Windows Media Player in Windows XP. Installs the same theater- quality video and audio decoders proven by over 45 million users of WinDVD - the world's leading software DVD player." I don't understand the incompatibility, but i can still play dvd's in wmp, and mm2 now works just fine. why did i install it in the first place? (By the way, I was prompted to uninstall the windvd stuff by a post on one of the forums, but i looked at so many that i lost track of the specific post that led to this solution--thanks to the poster who provided this suggestion!)     - Sending movie to DV-CAMERA am creating a video photo album out of windows movie maker. I have created many have had no problems. My problem sending back to my Sony dcr-trv330. When I'm done with the movie - I send it back to my dvcamera (to transfer to vhs - It goes to the camera fine but When I play it back in my camera - the sound is distorted in areas. I have tried and tried and tried to resend it - shutting everything down in the BACK GROUND thinking I was getting an interference somewhere. Still didn't work. I also disconnected my Internet thinking that was the problem. Still again no-go. It goes to CD fine and saved to My computer fine. But once it's going to the camera it seems that something is snagging it in areas. it's not certain areas because everytime I send it - it goes good and than all of a sudden seems like something snags it! it's scratchy!     - Project takes forever to load Hi Just wondering if anyone knows why my project takes forever to load. I have approximately 50 pictures on the timeline or 5 mins worth of info. My computer is a amd athlon processor with 40 mbs ,855 mhz and 256 ram. Will this slow loading affect my burning of the cd? Also is there an easier way of finding someting in the forum as opposed to scrolling down and checking each entry. Something like a search?     - Movie Make Hangs I have a problem with mm2 hanging when editing movie. I get the message "movie maker has runinto a problem and needs to close sorry for the inconvience". I read that this happens with the NIVIDIA video card, but I don't have. It appears to only happen with video inports that display a green video clip rather then a picture. I think I have a software conflict, but I don't know how to solve it. When I try to run conflict search on Wmm2 it states that it is part of the operating system and can't check. Can you help?     - Video Quality is horrible. What can I do ? Hello all, I am new to the world of video editing. I have a Sony Mini DV camcorder that I have been using for a while now. When I watch videos directly from the Mini DV on my TV the video is great. No jaggies or anything. I captured some video using the DV-AVI (NTSC) settings in WMM. I added a Title, some scene transitions, and credits. I saved it to my hard drive as DV-AVI. Now when I watch it in Windows Media Player the video looks horrible. There are jagged lines all over. Especially when a lighter color meets with a darker. What am I doing wrong here ? Since these are all digital files I am working with I don't see how I could lose quality. I have VHS tapes that look better than what I have as the outcome of capturing and editing this current video. Am I doing something wrong or is this just the current state of amateur video editing ? Would I get better quality results using something like Adobe Premier instead ? I wanted to put this on a DVD, but the current quality of the video wouldn't be worth it.     - the ever frustrating audio alright, i have only recently been using wmm, but have figured it out quite well on my own. my big issue right now is for one of my movies. i imported the video and all and started it but what i want to do is have parts of the dialouge playing at certain times and the rest of the time have a certain song overriding all other sound. now i know how to put the song in and mute the clips, but it seems as though i can only either choose to have the song play or the original video's audio. but i want both..if i am making any sense and if there is anyway to do what i want to do with this, someone please help! thanks.     - Upgrade Problems hi i have been using movie maker 2 for a while now and have found it great and had no problem's apart from it being a little slow. just today infact i got my pc upgraded to 512mb ram (from 256mb ram) and a new GeForce4 128mb graphics card and when i got my pc back from the shop and ran movie maker 2 it loaded my project fine and i clicked play, i had sound from my music and video clips and the time line was moving but there was no video just a black in the preveiw box. also i cant play any video clips in my collections folder in mm2. what can i do to get my video back?     - Moviemaker project file format Hi, Does anyone know the format of a WMM file? My purpose is to create a WMM project file with other editor and load the file into WMM to process. I found there is an article on Microsoft's website shows how to create a custom effect and transition but a could not find any information about a WMM project file format.     - burning movie maker to CD I have just created a slide presentation using movie maker. It runs fine on my computer, but when I burn it to a cd the slide presentation stops but the music keeps playing on. The slides do not always stop at the same point, example one time at 5 minutes and 30 seconds, the next time 10 minutes. Can any one help suggest a fix for this type of problem.     - DV playback error Dear ..... Having problems with DV playback (MovieMaker2 & Adobe Premiere 6.5), getting message: Adobe was unable to connect to the native Microsoft (TM) DV support. This setting was designed to only work with an OHCI IEEE 1394 (Firewire/Link) card with an approved Microsoft DV driver...... Playback performance will be impacted. In MM2 it will not play back to camera and receive no error message, before it stops. My pc is an P4 - 1800 with SiS P4S5A with 1394 FireWire PCI adapter Western and running (at the moment) XP Home Sp1 express + full update. Had no problems before with capture card. But after I installed Sp 1 and other updates from Microsoft Update in early summer this problem started. It is able to capture, edit and save file to the disk, but unable to playback to video camera. Have tried uninstalling scanner, moved capture card from one PCI slot to another, but error message comes up each time. To me it looks like there is something wrong with the XP's driver on the 1394 card and/or how XP set up its IRQ Have been in contact with the dealer, where I bougt the computer.     - File is not indexed Hello experts, I just imported over 700MB of video from my camcorder and after the capture and creating file process, WMM hung for 15 minutes until I checked the status in Task Manager and saw "Not Responding". Thinking that the video was ok, I ended WMM. When I tried to play it through WMP, it would play but I couldn't fast forward to check it out because it kept returning to the place it was at when it was playing. I then opened WMM and tried to import it, and got "Cannot import file: the file is not indexed." So, is there a way to finish my video or do I have to start from scratch? Thank you.     - Problem importing mpeg into Movie Maker 2.0 Dear all, Recently, when I import mpeg files into Windows Movie Maker 2.0 or MS Producer for Powerpoint 2003 and then drag the video clip to the timeline, only the audio track appeared there. When I play the video, no video is played in the Video Preview window. Instead, a pop-up windows named "Active Movie" will take control and play the video outside. I guess some plug-in related to MPEG in the Windows XP is missing because videos with avi or wmv format play normally in the above application.     - Mono in, stereo out. Multiple sound levels - how to smooth out The sound capture from our analogue camcorder seems to be mono (left speaker only). Is this a capture problem? This will copy the entire letter into the computer?s memory. Step 2) Open a blank ?notepad? file and place your cursor at the top of the blank page. From the ?edit? menu select ?paste?. This will paste a copy of the letter into notepad so that you can add your name to the list. Step 3) Save your new notepad file as a .txt file. If you want to do your postings in different settings, you?ll always have this file to go back to. Step 4) Use Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching for various newsgroups (on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions.) All you have to do is jump to different newsgroups and post away, after you get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each newsgroup! **REMEMBER, THE MORE NEWSGROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL MAKE!! BUT YOU HAVE TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200** That?s it! You will begin receiving money from around the world within days! You may eventually want to rent a P.O.Box due to the large amount of mail you will receive. If you wish to stay anonymous, you can invent a name to use, as long as the postman will deliver it. **JUST MAKE SURE ALL THE ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.** Now the WHY part: Out of 200 postings, say I receive only 5 replies (a very low example). So then I made $5.00 with my name at #6 on the letter. Now, each of the 5 persons who just sent me $1.00 make the MINIMUM 200 postings, each with my name at #5 and only 5 persons respond to each of the original 5, that is another $25.00 for me, now those 25 each make 200 MINIMUM posts with my name at #4 and only 5 replies each, I will bring in an additional $125.00! Now, those 125 persons turn around and post the MINIMUM 200 with my name at #3 and only receive 5 replies each, I will make an additional $626.00! OK, now here is the fun part, each of those 625 persons post a MINIMUM 200 letters with my name at #2 and they each only receive 5 replies, that just made me $3,125.00!!! Those 3,125 persons will all deliver this message to 200 newsgroups with my name at #1 and if still 5 persons per 200 newsgroups react I will receive $15,625,00! With an original investment of only $6.00! AMAZING! When your name is no longer on the list, you just take the latest posting in the newsgroups, and send out another $6.00 to names on the list, putting your name at number 6 again. And start posting again. The thing to remember is: do you realize that thousands of people all over the world are joining the internet and reading these articles everyday?, JUST LIKE YOU are now!! So, can you afford $6.00 and see if it really works?? I think so... People have said, "what if the plan is played out and no one sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of that happening when there are tons of new honest users and new honest people who are joining the internet and newsgroups everyday and are willing to give it a try?     - Movie Maker major problems i have been using windows movie maker for a while now and there are a lot of problems i've been having. when i was using version 1, there weren't as many problems. there were certain video files i had that it would import and split and everything and would let me preview each clip seperately, but when i put the clips in the the timeline, when i tried to preview the whole timeline, it wouldn't do anything. i also had this problem with version 2, but in version 2, it would crash sometimes and would go extremely slow when i tried to preview the storyline that had clips from certain video types. (i've also had the problem of not being able to view the storyline with adobe premiere). anybody know how to fix this problem...or know another program that automatically splits the video for you? i like that option a lot in WMM. If you were watching TV or a tape prior to trying to capture, you may get
this message. Reboot and try capturing freshly after startup.

Nothing of all. I haven't TV or tape. The capture don't play.
I have other capture program (ATI TV, Video Studio 5 ecc.) that play.
Movie Maker don't start capture with messagge........
