Why are wmplayer.exe and wmpnscfg.exe running after startup? I have been
checking Windows Task Manager because I have been having problems with slow
boot after I get to the desktop. Windows says that my video is "thrashing"
and close some programs but nothing is running.

Is some device attached that might be trying to sync to the player?

I have a Western Digital external USB hard drive that I use for backup. I was
also using a USB flash drive as extra memory but I have since removed that
because of the incessant disk activity slowing things down. This has
considerably improved my startup time but has not eliminated wmplayer.exe
from running. I have also checked my WM settings and can't see anything that
might be causing it to run at startup.

If that USB hard drive is not connected at system boot, does the player
still start... ?
