Walmart video clips
I tried to play a video clip (Vista WMP 11) on the Walmart website. It gave
me a small screen and had to rebuffer every few seconds. Unwatchable. If I
go to my very old and slow XP work computer with the slower DSL connection, I
get full screen uninterrupted video streaming. Tag: vista media player Tag: 263724
Window Media Player 11 codecs (problems)
I wish MS, would paste this on there website,
How to play 99% of all video & audio media out there.
Have 400 + video, in .avi .ogm .mkv .h264 vorbis..etc
and media player 11 with / service pack 1 for vista
can't play even one video, as for audio... well
I have 3400 .flac files, and 1200 .ogg files,
and about 200 monkey audio.. WMP 11 can't even play those too.
So, can someone please tell, if there ANY way,
of installing some codec' pack's, that would allow me
to play the above mention video and audio files...and of course
Freeware would be very nice.
Thanks in Advance

I just got MP 11, for the longest time it didn't work so I went back to 9.
And one day my MP updated to 11 and it appeared to work now "HOWEVER" when I
rip cd's they go to my music files which is correct but they do not go to my
MP Library and I can't move them from my music to the MP. But the MP will
play them if I select it in my music. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO FIX
THIS?????? Or should I say myself the headache and roll back to 9. Tag: vista media player Tag: 263718
video only - no audio
Using wmp 11, I only get video with no audio with some wmv files.
I loaded the file into mplayer2 and it asked to download "WMV-9 VCM RTW"
which I did, and it played fine there (mplayer2) but still won't play in wmp.
I noticed in streaming video I could view and hear files with wmv V9

Original Year ID3 tag
Is there a way to get Windows Media Player 11 to display/use/enable
the "Original Year" (original release year) ID3 tag?
If not, does anyone know if there are plans to include this feature in
a future release of WMP? It would be nice to be able to utilize this
fairly powerful tag; e.g., say, when an album is re-released in 2002,
it would be nice to find it via its original 1965 release date too.
For more information about the tag in question, see "original year" on

No video in limited account after SP3
Hi,
WMP11 doesn't play video, just audio, since recently. I've tried MPG, WMV
and AVI encoded with DIVX. This is in my everyday limited Windows account, an
administrator account (any one) can play video all right.
It was working fine before. I don't know exactly where things went wrong
since I'm not playing movies all the time, but I recently upgraded my XP home
to SP3.
I tried downloading WMP11 and just re-installing it but an error is
displayed at the end saying the program wasn't installed. The next time I run
WMP a welcome configuration windows is displayed, but then the problem isn't
solved.
I've found other similar problems but there's no telling if they're related,
it seems to me that the no-video problem may arise in WMP by multiple causes:

how to not sync? WMP11 on Vista
When I plug in my digital audio player, WMP11 automatically brings up a
window that seems to threaten to wipe my player if I don't click the correct
button ("When you click Finish, your device will be updated to mirror your
Windows Media Player library"). How do I stop WMP from doing *anything* when
I plug in my player? I have lots of stuff on my player (that I manage myself
with rsync) and I don't want WMP to sync; not even once. I have the feeling
I need to eradicate WMP from my system.

Definition of an Album
An Album in WMP are songs with the same values for
- album title
- album artist
- genre
- release year
Running WMP11 11.0.6001.7000 it looks like an album is:
- album title
- album artist
Different values for release year and genre no longer forces a split.

WMP11 - Vista X64 - VC-1 - C00D1199
Hello chaps and ladies,
I installed Vista x64 the other day, and did what I normally did on Vista
x86 which is to install the Community Codec Pack. However having done that,
it was not working as expected, so I removed that, did some hunting around
and installed the Vista Codec Pack and then the x64 components pack. With
those installed, everything worked except for wmvhd (vc-1) content. In order
to rule out any encoding issues with the file I downloaded the amazing caves
sampled from the Microsoft site. When I play any VC-1 content WMP sulks and
says:
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the
file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the
file."
If I click on the web help it reports I have error "C00D1199".
At this stage I have removed all the codec packs I had installed since I
just want to get windows back to its vanilla state. I cannot seem to manage
to do that..... Any suggestions?
As a side note, I downloaded Media Player Classic last night, and it *does*
play back VC-1 content......
Help! Thanks....

wmpnetwk.exe and task manager I/O read bytes
In trying to diagnose why my laptop is slower than normal and that the hard
disk is being accessed far to much I looked at Windows Task Manager. It
shows that WMPnetwk.exe has I/O read bytes at 11.744 GBytes even although I
am not connected to any other computer. WMPnetwk.exe has a CPU time of

Currently I only have two AVI files totalling 1.5GB and no music files on my

Auto List of Never Played Songs
In Windows Media Player ... is there a way to create an auto play-list
that will contain only songs never played?
It seems to me if I create an auto list that says "Date Last Played is
before 5 Years" I should get the songs that I have never played as
well as any that I have not played in the last 5. But, if I put that
criteria in my auto-list definition I get no songs.
I tried to manually change the .wpl file, but nothing I tried seemed
to work.
Or is there advanced search syntax that can give me the same thing?
One thing I realize I can do is sort by Last Played and get all those
never played at the top. But, I would like to listen to these in
random order (Shuffled)
Not a huge deal, but I think it would be a good feature to have (and
maybe it is already there... I just cannot figure it out). Tag: vista media player Tag: 263678
Multiple values
Suppose you have 3 different values in Genre
Hits; 80s;1982
Now you will find this song under Hits and 80s;1982
So you need a space between the ; and the value
You go to Genre and change
Hits; 80s;1982 into
Hits; 80s; 1982
Got to the song the tag is now
Hits; 80s;1982; 80s; 1982
So you need a spaced between the ; and the value and you can only change
this in the song it self. Tag: vista media player Tag: 263674

Can WMP11 ignore a USB flash stick?
I just bought myself a rather big (32GB) flash stick for storing pictures and
stuff.
Now, when I insert the flash stick, WMP starts using like 50% of my CPU
time... I assume that it's scanning the device for media (and finding plenty)
but I really would prefer if it didn't.
Does anyone know what WMP might be doing? And is there a way I can make it
stop?
I tried waiting, thinking that eventually WMP would get tired of looking
through my samey holiday photos, but I gave up after a few trillion
clock-cycles.
I'm having a hard time finding the synchronization settings but I believe
it's set to "manual".
Of course, there is an easy work-around - closing Windows Media Player - but
I actually do enjoy listening to music while I use my PC...

"Unknown" MP3 Dates Issue
On my computer, I have some eighty hours worth of classical music that
is all tagged with the dates the works in question were created. This
means most of the music has dates in the eighteenth and nineteenth
centuries, so dates in the range of 1701-1900*, with a few earlier and
a few later than this. Dates prior to the twentieth century show up
in Windows Media Player 11 as "unknown", although right clicking on
the MP3 file itself and selecting the Details tab in Windows XP or
Windows Vista shows the date from the ID3 tag.
I don't believe this is normal behavior for WMP 11 because the
operating system sees the dates correctly. Is it possible that I have
found a minor flaw in Windows Media Player? Is there a fix for this
anomaly?
Any information you can provide is greatly appreciated.
*Ever since the Y2K panic, it seems that people have adjusted
centuries to begin on the date ending in 00 when they actually begin
on the date ending in 01. I'm being a little old school here, so
please don't hold it against me too much. :) Tag: vista media player Tag: 263649

WMP11 Windows Vista Home Premium
Hi There, new to this group:
I am trying to get my WMP11 to play downloaded (.mp3's). In the Technical
Support Information section under the Audio Codecs area it says that it
supports - type DMO; MP3 Decoder DMO; Format
0055;Binary-MP3dmod.dll;Ver.-11.0.6001.7000? Does that mean it should
support playing downloaded MP3's? Cause it does not.
It gives me an error message saying: "The file you are attempting to play
has an extension (.mp3) that does not match the file format. Playing the
file may result in unexpected behavior. Do you want the Player to try to
play this content." Yes or No
When I click on - Yes - Internet Explorer opens with another security
warning box advising me - file download - do you want to save this file -
Name: Play-MP3.exe
Type: Application,97.8KB
From: www.fastmp3player.com
When I click run - then another security warning box comes up and advises me
that the publisher couldn't be verified and is unknown and boots me out.
So what gives? Any ideas, suggestions? I'm not an computer whiz by any means
and I'm really getting frustrated with all this mumble jumble I just want to
download so good old rock and roll. If anyone can help it would be much
appreciated.

Using WMP 11 to play CD collection
Windows XP SP3 + WMP 11
I have about 450 CD's which should require about 25GB storage. I have
more than enough room for this on my regular WinXP desktop. So assume that
I decide to use WinMP 11 on my existing PC to run the music, I'm still
unclear about
these points:
Using normal audio cabling, my CD player is connected to an old Sony
Amplifier
which drives the speakers. Similarly, the TV is also connected to the
amplifier
so I can play TV or DVD sound through the external speakers
The PC is in one room. The amplifier and TV in another. So, it seems to me
that I need:
1. A video connection from the computer to the TV to enable the
computer to drive the TV as a display of the various CD's, tracks, etc..
2. A remote to control the computer's WMP to select and display the
desired tracks.
3. An audio connection from the computer to the input of the external
amplifier to drive the speakers.
Corresponding Questions:
1. Which output on the computer, and which input on the TV. What sort
of cabling or other connection?
2. Where do I find the appropriate remote? Does it require a board on
the computer?
3. Which output on the computer, and which input on the amplifier.
What sort of cabling or other connection?

Verifying License Error
I have Windows Media Player 10. I tried playing some of the music in my
library and received an error message. There's no error code. It just says
"Windows Media Player cannot play, synchronize, or burn a protected file
because an error occurred while verifying the license". How do I fix this
because I can't play any of my music? Tag: vista media player Tag: 263616
