Recently (like the past month or two), I've noticed that every time I so
much as place a cd in my system, whether to play it, or rip it... WMP opens
itself and starts ripping the cd all on its own. I've gone into the Program
options and looked under every tab. Finally saw a check box that, if
checked, would make WMP do exactly this. Well... personally I don't like WMP
and prefer to use a different program. I cleared the box. Even after
clearing the box, it STILL DOES IT! Anyone have a clue how/why it does this?
I tried looking around online but had no luck. It's frustrating that I have
to quickly shut WMP down before it gets very far into the ripping process
each time a cd is inserted. THEN I have to go to the folder WMP is ripping
to and delete the folder with the (usually) microscopic file in it. I
shouldn't have to do any of this.

Help?

Thanx in advance

Oh yeah... in case it helps (I don't see why it should though), system
specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-53 1.7 GHz
1 gig memory
Windows Vista Home Premium
140 gig hard drive

I can't help with *why* it's doing it, but you could set the folder
read-only to stop it writing even the tiniest of files. I've never
played with R/O folders so I'm not 100% sure that the setting is
honoured. On my system, its a weird tri-state checkbox. Alternatively
you could play with the folder permissions (depending on your O/S and
filesystem). You'd probably end up with an error popup though.

Two options:
* it's checked in WMP's Tools:Options:Rip options
* it's selected in the system's Audio CD AutoPlay options

Hey, thanx guys.

zachd [MSFT]... you were right. I never thought about the Autoplay feature.
Opened it up, sure enough, it WAS listed to rip cd's with WMP.
