    - ideas on how to protect music database My son uses media player to listen to music but he has the habit of editing song information and thereby messing up the media library. He uses an XP machine but I could get him a Vista system if that would help. Anyone have ideas on how I could protect the music database? On my Vista system I tried loading the music on my login directory as I noticed that WMP uses a unique database for each user's library. Then I made a copy of what I thought was the database file.     - Controlling/Automating Windows Media Player? We are involved in a granted-funded research project at the Regional Research Institute. We have a large amount of video data we need to â??code,â?? i.e. noting events that happened in the video (did youth show initiative, did youth respond to a question, etc). Can you suggest a method to control Windows Media Player (or any other Windows-based media player)? Once video starts, we need the player to automatically pause playback after 20 seconds. Once the user resumes playback, the video needs to pause again after another 20 seconds, and so on. We would really appreciate your assistance with this. Thanks much.     - Mediaplayer10 and skins question I have a skin I like very much. Is there a way to make it permanent such that whenever WMP is started by double clicking on a video or music file, WMP starts with the skin already applied.     - Is anyone else having this problem? WMP is not providing any info at all for CDs I am playing or for CDs I am trying to rip. Is anyone else experiencing this? If I use the "Find Album Info" feature, the correct album information appears, but then it will not transfer to my player. I am using WMP 11 on XP Professional.     - Winodws media 11 on Vista not updating library with mp4 - m4a I have searched but cannot find the answer - apologies if this is simple. WMP11 will play mp4 and m4a music after installing appropriate codecs - but will not upload to library when search performed.     - WMP 11 and WMP 10 problems with both XP and Vista I've been having trouble with WMP 11. I only get a black screen when playing videos in vista, and hear audio. I load up the windows XP partition and the video plays fine. While XP was loaded it did the microsoft update thing and after a reboot the videos started doing the same thing as in Vista. After rolling back XP to before the updates WMP doesn't play video. It's AVI files. With a ATI 9600 series Video Card. I've tried re-installing the vid card driver and no avail.     - Audio garbled and 'jerky' only when playing DVD movies System: Windows XP Pro, all SPs and updates installed. WMP 11. Everything works as advertised except when playing movies.     - AVI file -- getting a single photo I inadvertently took 3 digital AVI files on my AKAI digital camera at a family reunion. I want to get a single photo from each of these files to use in a collage for my family. Can you help me acquire such a single photo from an AVI file.     - Quicktime breaks WMP Quicktime comes with ITunes, after it is installed it takes over WMP. When you click on an mpg video in IE after Quicktime has been installed and you have now changed MPG videos to open with WMP (instead of quicktime), WMP doesn't play the streaming mpg video anymore like it did before quicktime was installed, it just acts like it is, waits for the entire file to download, then shows one frame of the mpg and you have to close it and reopen it again to get it to play. If you uninstall quicktime, it makes not difference, WMP's streaming mpg playback is still broken. I've been using this site to test the streaming playback: http://www.flashdance.cx/mpg/ I think it has something to do with Quicktime screwin with WMP's activex CSLID keys in the reg, but I'm not sure.     - How can I get lyrics to show in WMP 11 when playing .kar files? I have tried the Karatron plugin, I have set the "Play" menu to show lyrics if available and I still can't get WMP to show the lyrics for .kar files. These are midi karaoke files. I have no problem playing .kar files snd seeing the lyrics with HP Quick Play or Apple Quick Time, but I can't get those programs to send midi output to my digital piano for better sound. I want to use WMP because that is the only program that allows me to send midi output to my digital piano (that part works fine). HP Quick Play and Quick Time can only play through the laptop speakers which don't sound as good as my piano. So if I want great sound, I can use WMP with no lyrics, or if I want lyrics, I can use Quick Play or Quick Time, but get crappy PC speaker sound. Please help me get lyrics via WMP for .kar files.     - album information will not transfer to my media player 11 I am having a problem getting album information to transfer from http://fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com/ to the Media Player 11 I have on my computer. When I insert a disc, the player reads everything as "unknown." But when I use the "Find Album Information" feature, the album information comes up as the first choice listed. I choose the album and click on Next. Then I click Finish on the next screen. However, the information fails to transfer to my player. This problem has just started over the past two days. I have ripped thousands of CDs and never had a problem. Is there something I can try or something that I might be doing wrong?     - Burning a cd I have ripped a CD and moved to the burn list. When I click on the songs, they play from the burn list. However, when I insert a blank cd the burn list still shows 79:57 minutes remaining and doesn't recognize the songs. I have used this set of disks to successfully burn many other cds.     - Problem with WMP11 Library My Library in WMP11 is blank, having checked all files are still in the appropriate place, and can be played by using the file and open facility. Tried ripping a new CD as a test had to search for CD info but would not update, CD saved into My Music as unknown CD, but not displayed in Library Tried to restore to a previous point when I knew all was well it made no difference Then rolled back to version 9 all well it searched and found all media in My Music folder.     - WMP11 on Vista doesn't display Chinese artists'/songs' name I have a whole bunch of Chinese, Japanese and Korean mp3s. WMP displays Japanese and Korean characters fine, but just not Chinese. Some Chinese is displayed correctly, but not all. And not all mp3s were imported to the Library. I am not sure if these 2 problems are related.     - WMP11 Force Conversion to MP3 when syncing to an SD Card Hi I have an MP3 player built into my car that takes an SD Card. Sadly the player only recognises MP3 format. I use WMP11 and most of my music has been stored as WMA on a media centre computer in my apartment. If I take my laptop down to the car and connect it directly to the MP3 player WMP recognises that it needs to convert the tracks to MP3 format when it syncs. But when I just plug the SD card into my laptop or media centre WMP obviously doesn't know what device it's going to be used in so doesn't recognise that it needs to convert to MP3 format and just syncs the tracks in their current format. Is there anyway (probably by adding some bit of xml into the WMPInfo file) I can force WMP11 to always convert files to MP3 format when writing to the SD Card?     - Windows Media Player 10 I can't edit my song titles any more on Windoes Media Player 10. I use to be able to change them around (sometimes, singer was first, or title was first, etc) after playing them but now, but now it will not allow me to do change anything anymore. "EDIT' "RATE" and "MOVE DOWN" stay light and I can't adjust anything in those areas. I must have pushed the wrong button and changed something. Can anyone tell me how to get this back to normal????? When i turned on my WMP 11 this morning it told me that there where no songs in my library. last night when i went to bed, there where over 2500 songs in the library. using WMP 10 on my 5 yr old Gateway Media Center XP PC.. noises started a
few days ago... playing all formats..CD.. Library--MP3 ...other formats like
wav files etc .. when I use Media Monkey or another player to play those
same files all is good.. no noise... so assume sound card is good..

I have searched everywhere to locate the fix.. I tried re-installing WMP
10.....no good so far.. ....can't upgrade to WMP 11 as old system doesn't
meet requirements..

any help appreciated
