I can no longer connect to a live stream of radio or video like cspan radio
or cspan tv. This is true whether I am playing it in a web page or directly
thru the player. There is nothing wrong with my network as I can play the
same streams in some of my other players but not all. Apparently those
players that use parts of WMP to play streams can no longer play them and
those that don't can play the streams.

This is the error message I get in WMP:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is
not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a
different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").

I have tried a system restore to a point before the problem started to no
avail.

The above error message happens when I'm trying to access an mms:// stream

I get a different error message when the stream is prefixed by http:// ;

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the
file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

Just discovered that I have no problems on other accounts. It works fine on
an admin account and on a lua account. The account I'm having problems on
is another admin account.

Your network info folder may be corrupted. Go to Documents and
Settings\profile name goes here\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Windows Media. You'll see some folders. There might be a
9.0 a 10.0 and an 11.0 folder. Rename them all. Start Windows Media
Player and try to connect. The network info folder you're using should be
recreated. This should allow you to connect. Go back to the folders and
rename the ones back that weren't recreated.

Hope that helps

It sure did. I wonder how it got corrupted. Interestingly it was folder
11.0 even though I've never installed 11. Thank you very much.

I am having the same problem and like your self I was able to to have live
stream a couple of weeks before. I am wondering if it had to do with the SP2
pack update that I got not long ago. Any answers on this matter from any
one????
