I have just been preparing a list of 12 audio files saved as WAV containing
the spoken word - and thought I would used Windows media Player to play them
through so I could hear how well one runs onto the next. The files are
saved in a folder on my separate hard drive.

The media player seems to think I have to complete a degree course on
playlists and libraries and god knows what else before I can play anything.

All I actually need is a button saying 'find your files here' where I could
see the drive I want, access it, see the 12 files I want, select them, press
OK and there they are on the screen waiting for me to press play. That
seems logical to me.

Or can kind person recommend some other player where loading files and
playing them is simple?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Josh:

I have a few .wav files saved in Windows Media Player 11. The easiest way
to play them in WMP 11 is to save them in WMP 11. Copy your folder over to
your "My Music" (easiest way) and your WMP 11 will pick them up. Just make
sure they are properly labelled. Also, WMP 11 will not play files under a
certain size.

Go to your Library Tab (click on it) and a pull down menu will appear. Look
for "Add to Library". Click on it. A box will appear on your screen. This
"Add to Library" box controls what is added to your WMP 11 (monitors My
Music, etc.). You can "add" folders you want to monitor here and also
delete. You will note that the "My Music" folder is a default (it stays).
Also, in the bottom right-hand corner you will see "Skip files smaller than"
-- change the # to 50 KB and it will pick up small .wav files (less than a
minute, e.g. 40 seconds). If you have Vista the menus should be fairly the
same as XP.

Thanks, kattails for your help. I will try those procedures.

Alternatively:

1. Press Ctrl+O (File open dialog, all applications work this way)
2. Navigate to your folder (standard technique)
3. Click the LAST file to play (standard way to select file)
4. Shift click the FIRST file to play (standard way to select range)
5. Click the Open button.

Enjoy!

The slightly counter-intuitive steps 3 and 4 are necessary because
windows adds the selected files in reverse order, so you have to select
them in reverse order. Two wrongs don't make a right, but two reverses
*do* make a right, when it comes to order.
