 - .avi from .zip Hi, Vista Home Premium, all updates installed. I keep getting a problem when I open an .avi file, especially if it comes from a .zip file. If plays for about ten seconds then stops. After this nothing will open in WMV, and several other programs like Window Washer won't open either. The only remedy is to do a restart. Any ideas? Regards, Alan.  - WMP11 Library Sharing from XP to Vista Ultimate, Bug or Challenging problem? I have most of my media on my home desktop (XP SP2 Home), around 700 songs, 7,000 pictures, and 500 movie files (MPG and AVI) stored on 4 external hard drives totaling 1.75 TB. I have printer and file sharing enabled, I have Media sharing in WMP11 enabled on my XP. I'm able to see all types of my media from my PS3 just fine. I am able to view and open all shared media in windows by using network locations, shared/mapped drives, typing \\computername or \\\ipaddress from my Windows Vista Machine. However, I'm only able to see my Music and my Pictures (Granted this takes a while to load) from my XP machine on my Vista Ultimate laptop in WMP11. I've double checked my sharing settings on the XP machine to be sure that it is sharing everything. I removed my Vista machine from the shared devices and added it back on the XP Machine. I'm beginning to think something is corrupt on my Windows XP machine when it comes to what it will share with my Vista computer.  - How put WMP-10 visualizations onto WMP-11? Hello, I'm using WMP10 but would like to upgrade to WMP11. Problem is, don't really like the WMP11 visualizations.  - Won't Play Internet radio Broadcast Hello, For some reason my Media Player 11 (on Vista) will no longer play radios that i get from the internet. It keeps telling me that the protocol is not supported. I am attempting to connect to radio shows that i have listened to before and had no problem. I have checked to see if i there are an updates but there are none. I have checked to see if all the network connections are checked and they are.  - Streaming video in WMP11 and I.E. I am running Webguide on my Vista Home Premium computer at home. I have a Vista Ultimate laptop and a Vista Home Premium laptop. The Home Premium laptop can connect fine to my Web guide and stream videos either through IE 7 or WIMP. On my Ultimate laptop I recently have not been able to. When I try and stream video from it I get this error message in WIMP. "You've encountered error message C00D11B1 while using Windows Media Player" I get this message in IE when I try to stream through the browser, "Windows Media layer cannot find the file. If you are trying to play, burn, or sync an item that is in your library, the item might point to a file that has been moved, renamed, or deleted." I am also having issues streaming video from other websites like chicagobears.com also. Like I said earlier I had this working fine awhile ago and I am not sure what has changed on this system..  - WMP gives no image, only sound on internet A few days ago I was surfing around the internet behind some proxies. I couldn't play flash files and it told me to download a new player. Nothing really happened so I though okay. But ever since then WMP is being weird.  - 2 Audio Streams on AVI File Playing at the same time in WMC Hello Gurus! I have a problem playing particular avi files that have 2 audio streams. Windows media player plays both at the same time and this results in two different voice overs at the same time english/mandarine! I can play the avi in VLC media player without the conflict. There must be a way of disabling the second audio stream in wmp....? I cannot use other media players because it is vista windows media center which doesn't seem to let anything else be the default video player (i could be wrong about that though).  - WMP10 won't play downloaded wmv files. I have WinXP Home Edition, SP2. If I receive a wmv file, through an email or skype for example, and try to play it by double-clicking the file I get the following error message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is on another computer, verify that you are connected to the network. If you typed a path, verify that it is correct. If the problem persists, the server might not be available." If I save the file to my hard drive it plays fine in WMP10. In the past I tried changing the file association to one of several players I have and if I recall correctly the only one that worked at the time was VLC player. The others displayed an error message but not the same one as WMP. They too would play the file if it was saved to my computer. I prefer to use WMP for wmv files.  - Lost all sound in WMP after installing quicktime I needed quicktime for a specific job and installed it together with ITunes. But now I lost all sound in WMP.  - WMP does not "sense" my burner When I try to use my WMP (latest version) to burn a disk, it gives me an error message. I says to attach a burner and try again. It did use to work, but somehow now it will not burn a disk. It does do "synch" and "rip" functions just fine. I do have two other audio software suites (nero and roxio) and these two other audio software suites sense my sony DVD-r rw just fine. I burned two discs yesterday...but WMP just won't do it.  - Windows Media Player 11 error when streaming video I am trying to stream video from my Windows Home Server that has Webguide running on it and for some reason just recently my vista laptop is not doing it. i keep getting a error message in WMP11 saying, "Windows Media Player cannot find the file. I have tried checking the network settings in WMP11 and nothing there has changed to my knowlege. I have seen in this forum were several people have had this issue with previous versions of Media Player but there never seems to be a clear cut answer of how to fix it. My media on my local disc seems to play fine in it and again this just started happening recently but it has worked in the past. I am not sure if SP1 for vista has something to do with this or not.  - Running an DVD in Windows Media Player with DVD@ACCESS files Hi, I want to use Windows Media Player 11 for playing a DVD with DVD@ACCESS files.  - Media info wrong on my new CD Hi, I just got a new CD and wanted to rip the 14 tracks to my desktop pc, using WMP11. When the CD was inserted, i was surprised to see that it said unknown album/artist. I restarted the pc and started over again and this time, it listed all 14 tracks but the songs were 50% wrong in name. One song was listed 4 times (one of those misspelled), meaning some song titles were not even there. But nonetheless, it showed 14 tracks. I then got on my laptop. It did the same thing. My kid told me she wanted to try Itunes and it was shown fine there; songs in order with the correct name once and not 4 times. BTW, when i tried using WMP11, i couldnt find the part that says to look up info so that abum art and info. Normally, shouldnt this be done automatically when a store purchased CD is inserted? The player does not open on the desktop. I have to manually open the player. When I open WM, the video is playing along with the audio. I have an administrator account.  - jerky audio in WMP Hi Folks, I'm running Vista Home Premium on a dual core machine with 2gig of DDR2 ram. My problem is that when I play an album or playlist of MP3's through either WMP or MC they play fine until 20 secs before the end of the track. At about this point, there's a couple or 3 stutters as if the PC was "getting the next track ready" Other players play fine, ie the otherwise awful Sonic Stage and so on.  - Same Picture is displayed for all new mp3s I have my player set to display album art when an mp3 is played. For some reason, every new song I download displays the same picture, which isn't even on my computer anymore, far as I know. It's like the Player automatically chose a default pic from my download folder to use with any mp3 that doesn't have its own album art already encoded in it.  - MSN Messenger not recognising Windows Media Player 9 I have MSN Messenger 8 and Windows Media Player (hereafter referred to as WMP) 9. When I tell MSN to show what I'm listening to, it says that it requires WMP 9 or higher and gives me a link to download the latest version of WMP. Now, I don't want WMP 11 because I don't like how it looks or the way the UI works, but MSN should still recognise that I already have WMP 9.  - WMP 10 no longer plays streams I can no longer connect to a live stream of radio or video like cspan radio or cspan tv. This is true whether I am playing it in a web page or directly thru the player. There is nothing wrong with my network as I can play the same streams in some of my other players but not all. Apparently those players that use parts of WMP to play streams can no longer play them and those that don't can play the streams. This is the error message I get in WMP: Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").  - Unable to Rollback to WMP 10 I need to do a firmware upgrade on my Creative Zen MP3 player but cannot do so until I downgrade to WMP 10. Unfortunately XP SP2 will not rollback the player for me. I have followed the instructions on the Microsoft website but when I go into Add/Remove Programs and try to rollback, the operation tells me that it succeeded. I restart and WMP11 is still installed so of course I can't remove the other programs to required to do the Firmware upgrade. Any ideas how to get around this problem?  - Ripping a CD to an MP3 file to a hard drive When I use Windows Media 11 player to rip a selected CD track to an MP3 file, it seems to want only to do this to a CD drive. I assume there has to be a path to send the MP3 file to a defined hard drive path - is there not? While I am a very experienced computer user, I am new to this area of activity. I also find WMP 11 a little kludgy to work with ripping selections, creating playlists, et al. But that may well be because I'm just not that well versed in doing these things. Are there any good free "tutorials" around that I could download for such activities. I was referred to iTunes. But I don't want to use any of Apple's software.  - Windows Media Sharing Service will not start I cannot get the windows media sharing service to start. When I manually start it I get the following error message: Could not start the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service service on Local Computer. Error 1008: An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist. I am on Windows XP, and am attempting to share with our XBox on the same network.  - Playing _from_ mp3 player? Hello, I have a Sansa Clip which I have loaded with .wma files from my home computer by sync'ing with WMP 11 at home. I have a USB cable at work with which I can connect the player to my work computer. Is there a way to get WMP 11 to play these files directly from the player on my computer at work without copying them to my hard disk using Explorer?  - How to prevent WMP11 from saving UNC path instead of drive letter? Hello! I have noticed that whenever I add files to the WMP11 library from a mounted network drive (e.g. E:\Media pointing to my server/ share), WMP11 will resolve the UNC name and store \\myserver\share \Media instead of e:\Media. Q: Is there any way to prevent this behaviour? Background: As a mobile user I regularly change environments where different servers will provide me with the same set of media files. The servers are in sync, so they do have the same files. Yet, WMP11 will try to locate any given file on Server1 which might not be available in Environment B and vice vesa. This is cumbersome.
