WMP11 installation failed. What can I do?

I want to update WMP10 to WMP11 from a CD
(given by Sony MP4 player : NWZ-A826)

â?¢ Windows Media Player version. : 10.00.00.xxxx.
â?¢ Windows operating system version : Windows XP Family with Service Pack 2.
(legal)

After 2h, an error message is displayed,
"Impossible to achieve the installation of the WM11 player" (in french, i
translate)
When I click on the button "help" , I get an internet page on microsoft site
"Windows Media Player Error Message Help
You've encountered error message 80070001 while using Windows Media Player.
Additional information is not currently available for this error."

I need this version to use my new Sony Walkman mp4 player.
How can I do?

I've tried it. I downloaded the exe : wmp11-windowsxp-x86-FR-FR.exe.
I got the same error.

What URL does that take you to?

In the file
c:\windows\wmsetup.log
, what lines contain "ERROR: "?

Right now it sounds like there is a corrupt component on your system.
wmsetup.log may help indicate what that is.
