    - My WMP 11 for Vista has died I constantly stream music from my family PC running Vista Home Premium to my Xbox 360. One day, my Xbox couldn't connect to my computer. I tried to open the network and sharing menu in WMP 11 and the program stopped responding. After that, WMP 11 would constantly freeze and a of couple days ago, when I tried to open it again, it didn't respond at an't cll.     - WMP11 wont play anything anymore?! basically, I bought a new windows vista laptop and I transfered (using transfer cable) my old music setting and playlists etc from my old XP comp with was also running the newest WMPlayer. but even tho they all show up, the lists and music files, AND play in the likes of Itunes and Media center when I try to play them in WMplayer11 the videos/music sounds of just crackling, and images are on a freeze frame jump rate - i have tried all things i can think off - restore points, reinstalling WMP11 etc but non will let me/or make a difference, very confussed. any one had simular problems or know what im going on about?     - Can't play DVD's Hi, my Windows Media Player will not play DVD's anymore, I've obviously done something. I get this message "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings.     - Unable to upgrade DRM cannot connect to server Hi guys, I have a problem when trying to upgrade my DRM files using the http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp website. I can click the upgrade button which brings up a box saying it is going to download an update from the server, however, as soon as I click OK it brings back an "Unable to connect to server" error. It's as though it doesn't even try to connect? I've done this process on countless other machines and never had a problem and I've searched and searched and can't find anyone else having this issue?     - WMP 11 knocks out my internet connection in both XP and Vista I've had this continuing problem trying to play soccer game videos on several websites, namely www.mlsnet.com, www.usllive.com, and www.cbc.ca. I try to connect to the games, which are shown in Windows Media Player. The player will say it is connecting, locating the media, connecting again, and then "Ready". At this point every time I try to load the video, my internet connection goes down. I have cable internet through Comcast, with a Linksys wireless router. I end up having to unplug power from the wireless router and replug it in to get the computer to find an internet connection again. I've tried this on a desktop with XP and a laptop with Vista, tried clearing caches, tried going through customer service at MLSnet.com with a second-level IT person, with no luck. I've tried re-installing windows media player 11, and also reverting to WMP 9. Does anyone else have a similar problem that they have been able to figure out? Can anyone help me with this?     - Playlist wont play in WMP9 I'm running Windows Media Player 9 by personal preference on WinXP;SP2, 40GB HD...Dell Laptop. I've downloaded a bunch of one minute wmv files. Ten to fiftteen mini-movies that are ZIPPED into one WinZip file. I'm trying to save drive space by leaving the folders zipped. I was told that I could drag and drop the 10-15 mini-movies into a blank Windows Media Player (WMP) and they'd start playing one after the other. But I get a 'circle-crossbar' symbol showing that this action cannot be done whenever I hover over the blank WMP. Then literally drag the wmv files from their WinZip folder without extracting them and drag them directly onto my WMP icon in the start menu. The movies compile and then they play. So I tried to streamline this process by building a 'playlist'. Without extracting the movies, I open the zipped folder and simply drag&drop the movies into the blank playlist and name my new playlist. I close the zipped folder. But in WMP, when I select 'File > Open (navigate to 'My Playlist' folder) > select the 'new playlist', I receive this message: "Windows Media Player cannot find the specified file. Be sure the path is typed correctly. If it is, the file does not exist at the specified location, or the computer where the file is stored is offline." Through practice I realized that I can only play one zipped folder at a time WHILE THE ZIPPED FOLDER'S OPEN after drag/dropping it's contents onto the WMP icon. This is a hastle. I'm trying to save drive space by leaving the folders zipped, so how can I play all the zipped one minute files at one time WITHOUT unzipping the folder/extracting the files from the folder that they're in.     - Upgrade Problem With Media Player Registry Entry Hi there, I hope someone can help me. I'm having a problem upgrading a lot of my microsoft products (messenger, media player and windows itself). I think the problem is to do with one of the media player registry entries; when I try to upgrade, this message appears: Could not open key - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\UIPlugins\{0776F107-F5A6-404B-9A78-7027FA6EAADD} I am an administrator on my PC so have all the necessary rights to open that entry. When I go into regedit, it also says it is unable to open even the folder that key is in, along with a lot of the other folders there. When I try to play a video in Media Player I get sound but no picture, which may be relevant here. I also am unable to upgrade Media Player, and I am now out of ideas.     - Navigation Pane Question I've been using Windows Media Player forever and I just dowloaded WMP11. How do I get the subfolders back under "Album", "Genre", "Contributing Artist", etc?!?! I always used the sub-folders to move music around (like we have done for years in Windows Explorer) and it's EXTREMELY cumbersome to try and move files around between folders when the only way you can do it is by renaming the individual music files or dragging and dropping entire folders into a new one. I guess I don't know why you release a new version and delete such a common functionality. Hopefully I'm missing something, but all I can see how to do is either turn on/off classic menus or turn on/off the navigation pane, but not turn the sub-folders back on. Tag: help Tag: 264637

    - WMP11 on Vista Recently my WMP11 has stopped playing mp3s or wav files on my own site whilst online and having checked other sites (inclduing Microsofts own media pages) it has also stopped playing them without resorting to saving the m3u and then playing it after downloading. The error appears as if I am offline saying that I am not connected or it is the wrong site address etc..when I am online and happens for all mp3s attenpted to be played whilst online. It never used to do that before on Vista. I've seen a recent knowledge base article somewhere that i tried but that didn't work.     - Windows rollup 2 not available. When i try to install windows media player 11, it says "unsupported operating system" install update rollup 2 for windows media center edition 2005. i went to windowsupdate.microsoft.com to check for updates, i clicked "custom" install, and looked at ALL available updates, and the update rollup 2 did not show up. I am on windows media center edition 2005, SP3, version 2002, windows xp.     - configure install not to search for files for library Working on upgrading our corporate workstations to WMP10. The first time you open the player after installing, a Windows Media Player dialog box pops up "Do you want to search your computer for files that have not been added to the library yet? If you click No, you can search for files later from the Tools menu." We do not want this message to popup up. Is there a setting to turn this off or a way to have this default to no? This install is going out to 5,000+ workstations and we don't want them searching for files. WMP10 is used mainly for playing voice messages in Outlook.     - wmv files don't open When I receive files with the .wmv extension via the Internet or email, I can not open them with a number of applications, including MS Media Player (which is set up to be default for this extension plus others). However, if I save the file to a folder on my PC and then import it to Movie Maker, I can play it from there. What must I do to be able to play these files directly on MS Media Player? Thank you.     - Windows Media Player for Palm-size PC Hi, It's a long shot, but does anyone know where I could get a copy of the old Windows Media Player for Palm-size PCs? I think the last version was 1.1. I see there's a 3 year old thread unanswered about this but I thought I'd try again just in case. It was available from the Microsoft website at the start of 2004 which was the last time I played with an old Jornada 430 I have. While I can find KB articles referencing it, no download page seems to exist any more. I tracked down a copy on a 3rd party site but it doesn't seem to include a SH3 version (I think it's aimed at the Casio handhelds).     - Is there a restriction how many videos I can play back simultaneou I wrote a Visual Basic program that uses the WMP ActiveX Control to play back a multimedia file. By launching multiple instances of this program, I can play back multiple files simultaneously. My current application launches 4 instances: one playing a MIDI, one a WAV, and two playing videos. All multimedia files are local. This combination works fine. I'm thinking of expanding this. Is there a restriction on how many files (video or otherwise) the WMP ActiveX Control can be used to playback on one system simultaneously?     - sound problem When I insert a CD WMP opens and I hear sound for a few seconds then silence... now I see system sound are no longer audible also. All used to work until I swapped out MoBo MSI K9Neo V3 MoBo with Realtek audio, setup for two stereo speakers connected to the rear speaker out [lime green jack] There are no yellow !s in Device Manager and sound properties says all is working.     - wmp recognizes 1gb mp3 but will not sync files I have windows media player eleven. I am trying to sync mp3 files to a nextar (MA566) digital MP3 player. Installed driver from cd rom. Recognizes device but when attempt to sync mp3 files it goes to the sync screen, says syncronizing for a long period of time. Then shows songs to be sync'd for a very long time but then says stopped beside each song. Tried re-installing drivers, but nothing happened. I am able to download from a different computer. But not my own I would like to know how I can solve this problem. My computer is a 900MHz Intel celeron processor, 128mb syncDRAM, Cd-rom 48x max cd drive, with a 56k data/fax nodem. Hello, Over the past year or so, I have been collecting all of my music into one music list in Windows Media Player 11 and deleting those songs that I don't like or don't really attract me, in order to create a 'favorites only' list. Right now the list is around 600 songs long, coming from ~15GB of .mp3's. I would like to copy these on to my portable music player so that I can listen to them on the road. However, WMP does not have a directory that it saves your songs to, like some other media players. I also don't see any option to directly open or copy a whole list. The option to open all files from their original directory does not work with me, as the songs come from over a hundred folders of albums, so when opening them it messes up (doesn't always select all used files from one folder, doesn't open some folders, etc.). Also, when trying to burn them onto a CD/DVD, it automatically converts them into .wmv (I think), making it a lot bigger than it used to be. On average, 600 songs are 2.4GB in .mp3 format, so that's more than big enough for me. Does anyone know how I can solve this problem?     - Cann not see, just hear avi files I used to watch my video clips in WMP 11 @ Windows XP with no problem, but since 2 weeks ago, I just can hear them... not even thumbnails appear now on the explorer....     - WMP won't close, only minimizes. V. 11 on Vista I have windows media player v11 on vista. When i "x" it out, it appears to close. Then I try to play a video clip and I hear only the sound of it until I go to my start menu and reopen WMP. It then plays the video part as if it had been playing the whole time.     - Windows Media Player 11 audio to HDMI I am using WMP 11 on Windows Vista. I want to play movies using Windows Media Player and watch them on my big screen TV. I have an HDMI cable connecting the computer to the TV. I can open WMP 11 and watch the movie perfectly on the TV by using the TV as a second monitor, but the audio is still on the computer. Now, I have tested the audio using the "Windows Sounds" section in control panel. I can hear the test sounds on the TV, but I do not see how to make the WMP 11 audio play there instead of on the computer. He uses an XP machine but I could get him a Vista system if that would help. Anyone have ideas on how I could protect the music database? On my Vista system I tried loading the music on my login directory as I noticed that WMP uses a unique database for each user's library. Then I made a copy of what I thought was the database file.     - Controlling/Automating Windows Media Player? We are involved in a granted-funded research project at the Regional Research Institute. We have a large amount of video data we need to â??code,â?? i.e. noting events that happened in the video (did youth show initiative, did youth respond to a question, etc). Can you suggest a method to control Windows Media Player (or any other Windows-based media player)? Once video starts, we need the player to automatically pause playback after 20 seconds.
