When I receive files with the .wmv extension via the Internet or email, I can
not open them with a number of applications, including MS Media Player (which
is set up to be default for this extension plus others). However, if I save
the file to a folder on my PC and then import it to Movie Maker, I can play
it from there.

What must I do to be able to play these files directly on MS Media Player?

Thank you.

If you're trying to play them by clicking on the files in your email
program (often outlook), it usually doesn't comunicate properly with
media player.

The solution would be to save the attachment files to your local hard
disk (eg C:\Videos) and play them from there.

Although the files *may* have a media player icon, they may be AVI or
other video types - right click on the file in windows explorer,
select Properties and paste the file name here to confirm.
