Hello all,

I have been trying to figure out why I can't play 24-bit files in WMP 11.

My reason for playing 24 bit files is because I preview samples that I
use DAW based recording and I've always found WMP to be the easiest and
most convenient way to preview these files. Up until a few weeks ago, I
can't preview these files.

I do know that a within that time frame I updated the drivers for my
sound card and made a few updates on other players I have running on my
system (i.e. Quicktime, Real, VLC, and Beatport). Now, I wrote to
M-Audio tech support (which I have their 1010LT card) and I explained my
problem and they said it's not a hardware problem that it's an issue
with whatever software I am using. I wrote Microsoft Tech support and
all I got was a list of what error messages I could receive if WMP can't
play a file.

So can anyone tell me if it's possible to play 24-bit files using WMP or
do I have to use another player? VLC seems to work fine with all files
at all bit rates. Has anyone else had this issue?

TIA for all who help!

After downloading Essentials Codec Pack from Download.com, I was
able to play both 24 bit and 32 bit wave files on either WMP 10
or the included WMP Classic. I don't know about WMP 11, but you
could give it a try. What have you got to lose except for some
time.

It says it runs on Vista, so I'll give it a try! Thank you!
