Is there any way to get WMP11 to not change the tags when it plays my mp3
files?

I understand from searching this group that there was no solution for this
in WMP 9 and 10, but couldn't find anything about 11.

You should be able to make all the files read-only. Find one which is
affected, right click it, and choose "Read Only" checkbox, then test
it to see if its tags are stil updated.

You can do this recursively across directories by selecting the top
level directory and applying the same step.

Thanks, Neil. I'd already done that, but you've told me what I really wanted
to know, which is that this version is just as lame as the earlier versions.

I found the problem yesterday that the mp3 file was changed after played by
wmp11.
The file was generated by LAME, and wmp11 added an ID3 header to it!
That's too bad!

Mark the file read-only if you don't want headers added. The player is
library and metadata-centric, so a collection of metadata-less files is kind
of useless. =\

Thanks, zachd.
Since read-only works, what will the player do with those readonly files
without metadata? Those files cannot be put in a library or collection?
The design of wmp should consider this situation, but not just add a tag
arbitrarily,
my opinion.
