    - turn off Media Player resize at application startup My Windows media player 11 always resizes to take up the whole screen every time I restart the application and it's driving me absolutely insane. I can't seem no matter how many times I close it after a resize it always opens taking up the full screen. It's the only app that I have that seems to do this.     - MediaPlayer just quit playing any video files Both version 9 and 11 just stopped playing any video file. It used to work fine both versions. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, nothing will correct the problem. Sound files work just fine. I am stumped.     - Windows Media MinPlayer unavailable in XP Toolbar Have brand new computer running XP. IT has locked accessibility down very hard, cannot install RealPlayer - or anything else so I'm stuck with Windows Media Player. Saw the Microsoft demo to run the Windows Media player in the Taskbar, but of course doesn't apply to my situation - right clicking on the toolbar provides me with options for Address Links Desktop Quick Launch New Toolbar no option to select Windows Media Player to be found.     - Sound stops while video continues to the end I downloaded off my camera a home video. The video and sound played until what looked like it should be the end according to the bar that moves. When the bar got to the end the video continued but the sound stopped. Also the sound was out of sync with the video. Anyone had this problem and have a solution? Since that one doesn't seem to get too many traffic... ---- Hello: I am currently using XP SP2 on an Intel Core 2 E8500. Something strange happened lately. Under WMP11, I can get video (e.g. avi)/music (e.g. mp3) to play fine using it without any problems. However, when I choose to play a music file (such as an mp3), where there would've been some sort of visualization effects being played under the Now Playing tab, doesn't get displayed. When the music file is being played, I have gone and made certain that it is indeed set on one of the Visualization effects (such as Alchemy) and that the "No Visualization" is "not" selected. This didn't happen on other systems I own or use at home or at the office. So the gist of it is, I hear the music that played fine, but no Visualization is being displayed even when a Visualization scheme is selected. This normally isn't that big of a deal for me as I have another software to handle my music playing (Winamp, and the Visualizations "do" work with it) and I just use WMP11 mainly to just do a quick listen to music files just to make sure they play correctly. I just don't remember there was a setting that I did in WMP that could've cause this.... Could certain plug-ins be the cause? A setting there perhaps? The last thing I did was changing some AC3filter settings to allow S/PDIF passthrough out to my 5.1 speakers when playing DVD titles, but that really shouldn't have messed with it, right?     - MP3 is not playing recently Hi, I used to play MP3 with WMP fine, however, it is not playing anymore after I save and play a new MP3 file recently . This new MP3 file was created via iTune (by importing the CD tracks onto iTune, which will in turn converted the file to MP3) I wonder what happens as the MP3 used to play on the machine doesn't work anymore.     - Error:C00D2AFB installing wmp 11 I'm running XP with service pack 2 and everytime i try and install wm 11 i get this error report.     - WMP11 (Vista) will not play WMA files Can anyone help? I have a new PC with Vista, but WMP11 will not play .wma files. It displays them in the library but when I click on a track to play nothing happens; just a small red dot appears next to the track name. It does play mp3 files with no problem. I can, however, play the .wma files using RealPlayer, so I know they are not corrupted. The files were originally ripped from my own CDs using AudioGrabber on WinXP. I want to use WMP but for now I am forced to use RealPlayer for listening to my music collection. If anyone can help I would be very grateful!     - Stereo from Dolby? I cannot satisfactorily get stereo from commercial Dolby DVDs on my XP SP2 / WMP11 / realtek 6 channel codec system - voices get lost in the background music though they all play fine on my dedicated DVD player + stereo amp system. Non Dolby DVDs (kids educational titles free with Sunday newspapers) play fine. Am I right in thinking that this is a problem of down-mixing Dolby 5.1 to LoRo stereo - voices are predominantly in 'middle front' which is being lost? Also that this conversion is a function of the player (eg WMP 11) or plug-ins rather than the Realtek codec setup? Any advice on how to fix this would be appreciated. PowerDVD (with same problem) and Intervideo Home Theatre are also available to me as they came bundled with the Intel motherboard if that would help. Sorry if this is such a novice question!     - What music and art files upload ? Hi: I'm willing to have any and all answers related, but I'm hoping that someone from MS can confirm the answers. (The following info is in general terms because the actual legal situation is complicated and ever changing and developing). Here in Canada we are slow to respond to Copyright and general usage rights for copying media to our PCs. It seems that good or bad our government has taken the slow road of looking at the issue from both a protectionist and a perceived fairness state. As with most lobbyists, there are more players than seats available. So here I am waiting to see if I can copy and what I can copy. We are a strange lot here in Canuck land; we have laws that allow us to download music with P2P and online retailers, but restrictions for copying do not legalize using hard drives or MP3 players for some personal use (copying) music or video file sharing . Copies from records, tapes, and CDs to each other are OK as long as the PC/MP3 player is left out of the loop. At least that is what the Copyright Board of Canada has informed me. Basically, no copying of records, tapes, and CD media to the PC/MP3 player . . . that is until Canada's Justice system makes a decision for or against. It is because the Music Industry is compensated by paying extra when buying CDs, Tapes, CD recording media; but not IPods, hard drives, memory cards, and the like. It would appear that paid for downloads are OK but even that is not written in judicial stone. Interestingly, manufacturers and retailers are, along with the artists, taking different sides on the issue . . . they often don't agree within their own groups . . . politics rule . . . unfortunately, it's the old story, "Be careful what you wish for . . . " , everyone stands to lose. Fair compensation is not a bad thing when it's fair. If tariffs are added to the hard drives and memory . . . problem solved, but for those who don't use hard drives and memory for music . . . problem created. Here's are my questions . . . in the possibility that our judges decide it's OK to copy to our PC but not upload (with or without our knowledge of the transmission) . . . I would like to know if Windows Media Player/Center sends the music file and Album artwork back to either Microsoft, AMG, or any other recipient. Or is it simply data that cannot be resurrected as music and art? This could be an issue. Also, is there a way to embed copyright or non-copyright credits to Media Player's active album art if created or copied by one self ? I am, along with others, doing my part to make the legal system work for the user as well as the provider. As a former broadcaster, I have been in contact with various associations and government officials with this discussion.     - WMP11 windowsxp-x64..Video codecs Hi , With the x64 version of windows media player 11 it has files in both Syswow64 and System32 and is listed under programs files x86. I am assuming that it is actually 32bit WMP optimised or tweaked in some way for XP x64 ....therefore I should install 32bit video codecs. Is this correct?     - Now playing doesn't update "Date Last Played" WMP11: My "Now Playing" contains the column "Date Last Played". In other views containing this column, it updates instantly when a track reaches the end. The column in "Now Playing" doesn't seem to update the "Date Last Played" at all.     - Nr.11 Won't import Maps or files anymore. I work still with XP ,updated to nr 11 ,worked fine for 5 months ,then ' would'nt import no new maps and files.I did a system recovery,wich worked, 1 month later it's the same problem,sys recovery works no more, and installing again won't work either.     - Titles staying in library when theyshouldn't I've moved all my music files in to a new folder that is NOT in the "monitor folders" list in WMP11. I've then been reripping the CDs to WMA lossless in the original Music folder. The computer has been turned on/off several times since, and I've done a rescan of the monitored folders. However, the old titles/files are still showing up in the library, with the incorrect path. Sometimes they won't play, but sometimes Windows finds them in their new folder.     - WMP11 Library Sharing from XP to Vista Ultimate, Bug or Challenging problem? I have most of my media on my home desktop (XP SP2 Home), around 700 songs, 7,000 pictures, and 500 movie files (MPG and AVI) stored on 4 external hard drives totaling 1.75 TB. I have printer and file sharing enabled, I have Media sharing in WMP11 enabled on my XP. I'm able to see all types of my media from my PS3 just fine. I am able to view and open all shared media in windows by using network locations, shared/mapped drives, typing \\computername or \\\ipaddress from my Windows Vista Machine. However, I'm only able to see my Music and my Pictures (Granted this takes a while to load) from my XP machine on my Vista Ultimate laptop in WMP11. I've double checked my sharing settings on the XP machine to be sure that it is sharing everything. I removed my Vista machine from the shared devices and added it back on the XP Machine. I'm beginning to think something is corrupt on my Windows XP machine when it comes to what it will share with my Vista computer.     - Streaming video in WMP11 and I.E. I am running Webguide on my Vista Home Premium computer at home. I have a Vista Ultimate laptop and a Vista Home Premium laptop. The Home Premium laptop can connect fine to my Web guide and stream videos either through IE 7 or WIMP. On my Ultimate laptop I recently have not been able to. When I try and stream video from it I get this error message in WIMP.     - WMP gives no image, only sound on internet A few days ago I was surfing around the internet behind some proxies. I couldn't play flash files and it told me to download a new player. If I receive a wmv file, through an email or skype for example, and try to play it by double-clicking the file I get the following error message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If I save the file to my hard drive it plays fine in WMP10. Zune software should work fine on machines running Windows Media Center 2005
and newer.

If you're looking for Zune advice, I would suspect that the Zune forums at
zune.net are probably better than Windows Media Player-centric newsgroups.
