"John Lockwood" has broadly fleshed out the requirements to make this
work, and notes a registry setting which has to be made so WMP can
recognise the files as something to add to the library :

Occasionally, it might add the content to "Other Media" rather than
the videos part of the library, so have a look under that (on the left
hand panel dropdown).
You should be able to find the files pretty easily using the Search
(Library) box in WMP though (by name or filename for example)
