Why Does WMP 11 Change My Music Library
When I try to update my music library, the names of the files are
changed. They appear the way I want them and I don't want WMP to
change anything, just add missing info or album art.
Also, can I get rid of certain information (tags, album art) that
appears in the library that I don't want?

Low bitrate mp3 'skips' during playback
I recently bought a new PC with Vista. On my old XP machine (also running
WMP 11) I had no problem running 32 kbps bitrate mp3s (voice recordings
predominantly).
On my Vista machine I get a 'skipping' effect similar to listening to a very
old record. I have no problem playing any other mp3 at 128+ kbps bitrate.
I am running Vista Home Premium 32 bit on a Gateway FX7024 quad core (2.4)
w/ 3 Gig Ram. I am using WMP 11 with current updates.
Any thoughts would be apprecaited. Thanks for your help. Tag: Unsupported Operating system Tag: 262848

WMP 11 rips CD's on its own?
Recently (like the past month or two), I've noticed that every time I so
much as place a cd in my system, whether to play it, or rip it... WMP opens
itself and starts ripping the cd all on its own. I've gone into the Program
options and looked under every tab. Finally saw a check box that, if
checked, would make WMP do exactly this. Well... personally I don't like WMP
and prefer to use a different program. I cleared the box. Even after
clearing the box, it STILL DOES IT! Anyone have a clue how/why it does this?
I tried looking around online but had no luck. It's frustrating that I have
to quickly shut WMP down before it gets very far into the ripping process
each time a cd is inserted. THEN I have to go to the folder WMP is ripping
to and delete the folder with the (usually) microscopic file in it. I
shouldn't have to do any of this.
Help?
Thanx in advance

Inconsistent Artist display order
I have just acquired a CD by the Swedish group Anglagard, except the
first letter is an A-umlaut and the second "a" is an a-ring.
In my "Songs" display, albums are listed alphabetically by artist, with
Anglagard falling between Andreas Vollenweider and Anonymous 4. This
seems right to me.
However, in the "Artist" display, Anglagard is in a section all by itself.
I don't know the relative merits of these two approaches; I'd need to
get the opinion of someone Swedish, but they are certainly inconsistent.

Using media player for a hard disc full of DVDs - Windows XP?
Hello,
I'm sure this question has been asked before but I thought I'd find out for
sure. I'm running Windows XP SP2 with all the patches - latest media
player 11.05721 - as far as I know. I saw several recent articles about
ripping DVDs to your hard drive. So I ripped two DVDs to my hard drive so
far and renamed the folders to the names of the movies. I can manually
select the VOB files in those folders and play them but I'd like to see the
movie titles show up in my movie library in media player.
I saw a nifty program/hardware solution called kaleidescape or something
like that that does what I want but it seemed very expensive. I already
have a couple of movies on my hard drive, I just want an easy playback from
a library.

WMP11 for the senile
I've just acquired an MP3 player which is supported natively in WMP11.
I dragged a few albums onto it. The next day, I decided to add a few
more. I couldn't recall exactly what was already there. Is there any
way of setting up WMP11 so I can see the albums on the MP3 player and in
my library at the same time?
In the end, I displayed the albums on the player and wrote them down,
but this seems an archaic approach.

MP11 - playing DVD problem
Using MP11 on Windows XP Pro with SP2. Player plays downloaded files on pc
just fine. Try to play a DVD and you get sound but no video. We have
backed down to MP10 since, per Microsoft, MP11 was designed for Vista and

I'm using JetAudio to convert some mkv video files so I can watch them
via my media server network and PS3. The results have been quite
degraded. When I select AVI (divx + mp3) with same size and frame

Trying the same with WMV (and a 512 Kbps video bitrate) resulted in a
substantially smaller file and inferior video quality. Any

Jerky playback
I have a wmv file that has played just fine for over a year. I use it in a
powerpoint presentation.
Suddenly it started playing jerky - the audio is fine but the video starts
and stops at random.
First, the environment:
a. XP Professional, SP2
b. Nothing else running on the system per the task manager.
c. On task manager, media player shows between 45 and 60 % CPU while playing
the movie.
d. Running Norton 360.
I upgraded to WMP 11 - didn't help.
I thought maybe the file was corrupted so I renamed the old file and made a
fresh copy from another computer. Didn't help.
I noticed that if I play the movie a second time (replay) it isn't jerky...
it's only jerky the first time that I play it. I then discovered that all of
my clips are the same - jerky the first time but not the second time.
AHA! A buffering problem! I enlarged the read-ahead buffer to 20 seconds.
Didn't help.
I'm stumped.
What could have changed, even by mistake, that could be causing this? Could
Windows Update have changed something on me? Or a Norton update? Tag: Unsupported Operating system Tag: 262785

Video freezes with WMP 11
I have what I know is a software issue with WMP 11 on WinXP. Watching videos
results in system freezes to the point of my computer crashing with an
infinate loop error. I have replaced the video card as well as uninstalling
and reinstalling the NVIDIA video drivers and it still happens. About a month
ago it began behaving after a system reboot and videos played again without
any problem but when I rebooted again a week later, the system came up with a
"recovery notification" message stating that it was reverting back to the
last known good checkpoint and the problems came back. No checkpoints I've
tried to use on the restore will fix this. There also was no new software
added before or after the brief period when the WMP worked properly. This
also effects other video players as well but not as severely as it effects
WMP (they hang but don't crash with an infinate loop error and system dump).
So, my question is this, is this codec related? If so, what so I do to fix
it (such as where do I get the codecs and where do I place them) ? Tag: Unsupported Operating system Tag: 262768
Online CD info database errors
When inserting my audio CD's, it's common that WMP has incorrect info about
the album.
Ii took a few tries, finally figured out how to edit the info in the pop-up
window from fai.music.metaservices.microsoft.com (the page is quite touchy -
it likes to refresh and forget all the data you just typed in.)
Conspicuously there's a field missing. The Year!
Is there another web page where I can edit this info easier? Some albums
come up with the year info, so it's getting in there somehow...

trouble is driver conflicts how do I rectify it.

none of it has worked. Every time MMOD heads out of commercial, the browser

Can I make WMP 11 do these things?
An old version of WMP - I think it was 9 - had a feature which would
connect to a website (maybe it was music.com, but my memory isn't improving
with age) and show various pieces of album information about the mp3 one
was listening to, including when it was recorded, who played on the record,
a review which gave some history and such about the record. This was great
stuff for an old jazz fart like me, and I loved having it be the default
view. Is there any way to make WMP 11 do that, instead of showing those
goddam record stores?
Also, can I make it show my library in a plain old Explorer style list or
details view file tree, not the WMP folder view with the alphabetical
headings and all that other clutter? My collection is almost 50 GBs, and
browsing it via any of the views which are native to WMP, quite frankly,
sucks.

would do these things. I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer... Tag: Unsupported Operating system Tag: 262655

Windows Media Player 11 for rendering movie.
The issue is that the movie needs to be renderd over full screen mode.
We have successfully done that but the issue is we are not able to
receive any events (specially click/Touch) while player run on full
screen mode. How can we control that?
A quick response is highly appreciated.
Thanks,

playing media from smartphone in media player
I have a AT&T Smartphone and I have all my music sync'ed from my WM Library.
Most of my music in my library is stored on a network drive at my house and
when I am at work I can not access that music in WMP. However I do have all
my music on my Smartphone so when I connect my smartphone to my PC is there
a way to play the music that is stored on the Smartphone through my WMP on
my PC? I was able to do this with my creative Zen and the software that
came with it to play music directly from that Zen, but I couldn't do it
using WMP, I had to use the ZEN software. Is there a way to do this with
WMP11? Tag: Unsupported Operating system Tag: 262637
