I want to delete the history of the files played on my WMP but they won't go
away. I read where I should be able to go to tools:options:privacy and
delete the history. The problem is that privacy is not an option in my
options selection. Is this an old version and what are my options now?

If you view the media player menus (press CTRL + M keys to show them
if not visible), then go to Help -> About windows media player : What
version is listed there ?

I think the main privacy options first came in for WMP10 on XP, though
WMP9 on 2000 and XP has Clear History (visited web URLs) and clear
CD/DVD (a bit chocolate teapot that one).
