Hi Forum Members:

Never had this problem before with WMP 11. Have Windows XP Media Center
2005 (2) and all updates.

Usually the recently added is full of music that I've added. This week
absolutely nothing is in this folder??

I've read previous posts from last year and I gather there is a BIG BUG for
this one. Any resolutions?

Thanks,

Click on "Help" tab, locate:"search for media files" WMP then does a quick
search.

Andrew:

Clarification on suggestion is that I do a search by typing "locate media
files" under the Help Tab? If so, it gives me about 20 or 30 different help
messages?
I have nothing else under my Help Tab -- nothing labelled locate media files.

Clarification of Problem: The music is there but Media Player 11 will not
"list" my most "recently added music" (albums, songs, etc.), i.e. when I
click on "Recently Added Music" nothing comes up. Media Player says there is
nothing added. Also, some additions have the strangest dates, e.g. 2019,
2020, 2017, etc.

Hi Roseval:

Mine just started. I've read about the posts from 2007 and thought may be
they have fixed the problem since then. I just reloaded WMP 11 in early
February after a clean install of computer. I guess not!

Do you have those funny dates on your music as well. I have no clue where
WMP 11 is getting the dates from?

I've checked all my settings and they are fine.

I think a couple of month ago I did have a 'filled recently'
But updates are pooring in.
Today, if I add something, it remains empty

I can see dates like created/last played/ added but these look normal to me.
I quess
created=creation date of file
added=date you add somthing to the library

What dates are you reffering to?

You might try a tool like MP3tag to check what has been written in the tags.
If these dates are in the library only, a delete/rescan might cure it

Hi Vincent:

I'm not too sure what seems to the problem with WMP 11. This is a recent
problem for me.
The left side of the Media Player under Library is the heading "recently
added" and it is empty. Never had this problem before at all.
I've added albums and individual wma's and mp3's to my library (by ripping
or just moving the folder to My Music).
Some of my files, as mentioned, had these strange years on them (for albums)
like 2095 or 2018? I amended those albums.
I use the "option add to library all the time to update what I've added" ...
still empty.
Must be a "bug" for WMP 11 that happens every now and then. Don't know why
though. Thought may be there might be a fix for it.

Thanks,

Sounds you do the tagging outside WMP. Check release year before adding them
to WMP, maybe some tool writes a date instead of a year

Hi Vincent:

Some of my mp3 tags need fixing before I put them into "My Music" (so you
can find them later) but I finish the tagging in WMP 11 (name, album, artist,
genre, etc.).
Even the ripped CD Albums are not showing up in the recently added section
of My Library?

Mystery!

If I recall correctly, I believe this is due to a date format comparison
where it expects MM-DD and you're using DD-MM. (This is kind of a note to
myself to look up the rest of why this is...)

You can use an AutoPlaylist (content added in last 30 days) to get this
effect too - the AutoPlaylist date math is done correctly. =\

Were you having this problem on XP or Vista? If it's Vista, does it still
happen after you upgrade to SP1?

Re: Recently Added Music - Empty by kattails

Hi Zach:

I was just replying to your note to "examancer" who is having a similar
problem with the MP3 ID Tagging in WMP 11. I've left some notes there as
well.
I'm using XP Media Center 2005 (all updates for XP-Media Center).

How do we fix the date issue within the Mediaplayer. You mentioned using
Autoplay List???

It's not quite the end of the world if my "recently added" doesn't work but
it's rather strange that it would just up and quit and not work at all.

I've ripped 4-5 CDs into WMP11, just recently, and all information was added
to the Mediaplayer (tags look fine). As 'examancer' wrote, I've edited my
mp3 tags prior to moving them into Mediaplayer and then added some finishing
touches to them once they were in Mediaplayer (missing album art, genre,
etc.).

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear to "stick" or "affect" the MP3 ID tags
because if I take them out of MediaPlayer and put them back in you have
re-do this information all over again??? Is this typical for WMP11?

Firstly, I'm curious how your system displays the date. Here in the UK
my system displays it as 12/04/2008 (12th of April). It would help us
confirm our hypothesis if we knew what date format your system (and
presumably you, yourself) uses.

To create an auto playlist:

1. Click the Library Tab
2. Right click "Playlists" and click "Create Auto Playlist"
3. Set its name; I chose the catchy name: "Recently Added"
4. Click to add criteria. I used "Date added To Library is after last 30
days" and then "Sort by Date Added Descending"

When displaying this list you can easily see what you've added recently
- the newest stuff is at the top of the list.

Incidentally, this problem is the corollary of Marcy's Law (Problems
that go away by themselves come back by themselves). This problem
appeared by itself, and it will go away by itself. Of course, once it
goes away by itself, Marcy's Law applies again.

I'll reply to your tagging issue questions solely in the other thread so I
don't confuse me. =)

You cannot "fix" the Recently Added list by yourself, you would need to
build your own "Recently Added" auto-playlist using "Date Added" "less than"
"30 days" or something like that.

If you're hitting what I think of, it would work and not work according to
the day of the month, since 04-10 would be 10-04 and 04-11 would be 11-04 -
one month later. Thus it would be erratic and not work fully. I've passed
this along to a friend on the team for consideration to see if I'm right
here, he'll look further into it as time allows. As regards your scenario
and Recently Added - follow Swifty's steps and you should be good.

Re: Recently Added Music - Empty by kattails

Greetings Swifty:

My computer clock is MM-DD-Year, i.e. April 12, 2008. Usually that's what
is used in Canada and US. I know that in Europe you usually (as a standard)
use 12 April 2008 (DD-MM-Year).

I'm using the most recent Version for WMP 11 for XP - Version 11.05721.5230

In addition to the date being a possible problem. What about "metaservice"
or other updating features that might interfere with the "recently added"
portion of WMP11?

What's rather interesting is the fact that Vincent's 'Recently added
library' was empty and his is now full! Guess what -- mine's full! Hasn't
worked for sometime and now, as of this morning, it's working again.
Marcy's Law?

It just may be coincidence!

Thanks for the 'auto playlist' idea. Never used it before. Great idea.
Will set it up just in case "my most recently added music" decides to take a
walk-about again.

Hi Zach:

Swifty asked about dates. For my computer it is April 12, 2008 or
MM-DD-Year. I gather in Europe they use DD-MM-Year.

My "recently added library" is back as of this morning. Has been missing
for awhile.

Do you think it might be a possibility that the updating services of WMP 11
might affect the "recently added" as well as the "date issue"?

See my note to Swifty. Let us know if you discover or solve the "mystery of
our disappearing library".

Thanks,
