.mpg files start to play, then the video freezes after a frame or two while
the audio plays fine. I've seen some similar questions on this board and
tried the suggestions of updating the driver (which was current) and reducing
the hardware acceleration. Actually, when I change the acceleration settings
and/or reduce the digital image size, it will play, but the next file I open
has the same problem and I have to tinker with the settings again. Even
though I click "apply" each time, I find that one or more of my settings
changes has reverted back.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

If the acceleration settings are not sticking, that extra-indicates that
you're having a driver problem you should take to the video card driver
provider so that they can fix you up.
