Hi ~ I 'm using WMP11 on XP Media Edition 2005. After not using it
for a few days....( was playing with iTunes) I noticed that big chunks
of individual tracks are missing from my about 25% of my
albums....never the whole album. They are also gone from "My music",
and a search for the files failed to find any, including the recycle
bin. This has happened before, but usually was only a few items, and
I'm wondering why WMP "disappears" music files so thoroughly. I use a
Philips Juke box mp3 player, and my sons use ipod, so we have both WMP
and itunes. I noticed that if a file goes missing from itunes, it
always is listed in the recycle bin and can be recovered. Not so with
WMP 11! Could this be related to the quantity of files in the
player? I have between 20 and 25GB.
Also, WMP copies new files at least twice to the library! I'm
guessing it's taking them from itunes as well as "my Music", but I
don't know how to stop this! Help!! And thanks!!

A: WMP doesn't have auto-convert of files. iTunes does. Maybe iTunes is
converting file types here? What file types and location are two of the
"duplicate" files?

B: Do you have Rename files checked under WMP's Tools:Options:Library
options?

Hi Zachd-- in response to your questions--
A: I checked the file locations of a track froman album WMP is
downloading 3X:

1. C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Music
\Beatles\1967-1970(Blue album)\Volume 1
2. C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Music
\iTunes\iTunes Music\Beatles\Magical Mystery Tour
3. C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Music
\iTunes\iTunes Music\Beatles\Magical Mystery Tour

The next track shows the info from line # 1 above twice, and once from
itunes....weird..and repeated 100's of times in the library. I go thru
it often to delete duplicates, but they reappear soon after. Also, in
ALL file locations for the album above, it's in MP3 format, and not
converting them.

B. Yes.
Thanx!

What are the full file names including extension of those files?

Your iTunes folder is a subfolder of the My Music folder. iTunes is
"importing"/copying the tunes to its own library hierarchy in whatever
structure it wants.

Options:
* Turn off iTunes "importing" these files which already should be accessible
to it.
* Move your iTunes folder to some location WMP doesn't scan
* Move your WMP folder to some location iTunes doesn't scan

I would bet that customer satisfaction would be highest here through option
1 above. You do NOT want two different players importing / converting /
moving / renaming your files. It's just a bad plan and makes people
unhappy. Sorry.
