I use WMP daily, went to open it today and my entire music library is GONE! I
hope this is a simple fix. I don't recall making any changes, other than
adding music to my ITUNES library to sync my husband's IPOD. I hope this is a
simple fix...I'm just used to opening WMP, adding and arrainging music
without problems! Thanx for your help!

it appears as though the library db is corrupt. you might need to rebuild
the music library. check the link to the article below. Follow the
instructions. it isn't quite clear, but when the file browser opens, just
select the FILES...not the folders, and del the files. Then when MP opens
again it will rebuild the music library for all of the music files under the
auto moniter folders. This will not delete the actual music files or folders.

hope this helps.

Thanx for your help. I did everything that this article stated. I cannot
delete the file "CurrentDatabase_360" file, and leave the folders as article
states. When I try to delete this file, I get an error message that it is
being used by another program...but I have closed WMP. I am using Windows
Vista.

When I try to rebuild my library, I cannot, and the folders that I select to
add to library will not remain, and no music is added. Please help this
uneducated person resolve this issue...with much gratitude.

I did exactly as the article stated. I am using Windows Vista. I could not
delete the file "CurrentDatabase_360" file, receiving an error message that
it is being used by another program. I already closed WMP, so I'm not sure
what other program it is being used by.

No matter what I do, I cannot rebuild my library, and the folders that I
choose to rebuild from will not stay, and I have to keep reselecting the
folders. I have restarted my computer several times, and when I open WMP it
states "There are no items in this library yet-the Player is searching for
digital media files in the background. CLICK HERE to add files to the library
now." I have tried this, but still get no response.

Please help this uneducated person resolve this frustrating problem, with
great appreciation.

Is the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service still running? You
would need to stop that first.

I have also tried to rename the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player,
but keep getting stopped with the error message "need permission to
continue". I am the administrator, so I am unsure as to why I get this
message....

Your site is where I have gotten the majority of my helpful information,
Zach. You have been a real life saver. However, I keep running into another
problem each time I try something new. I downloaded the update that you
stated that I would need for WMP11 for Vista, but my system stated the update
did not apply to my system.

Also, please see my reply about not being able to rename the Media Player
folder.

I can't determine if the Network sharing Service is still running, b/c WMP
freezes every time I try to see if it is running or to stop it. Thanx for
your help.

If there's a reference to previous data, it would be most helpful to respond
back to your original post as opposed to creating a new thread, as it is
difficult for me to remember the contexts of most discussions. =)

You would need to stop the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service
before continuing.

Hi Zach,

You have been most helpful with the information you have provided so far but
I seem to be getting stuck when it comes to locating or fixing this sharing
issue. I am no expert in computers by any means but feel as though I have
navigated my way well so far, but I seem to be getting stuck here. Like
TastefullyCasey media player freezes when I select Media sharing. I want to
stop it like you said from the Services control panel, but I have to admit
that I have no idea where this is. I have looked and I have no idea. Can you
help me please?

It's listed as the "Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service" there.
Can you find that? If so, Stop that. =)

seems to have started working again now so I must have pressed something.
Thank you very much for your replies, and helpful website.
