I've tried uninstalling wmp 10,using ccleaner for the registry, deletin
registry keys HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMPlayer.OCX an
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\WMPlayer.OCX.7,nothing seems to be helping.I checke
the updspapi log and i see :#E008 Setting registry valu
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Settings\MP3Encoding\LowRate
#E033 Error 5: Access is denied. but when i go to have a look at that
only get as far as the "settings" sub folder as then it tells me acces
is denied,error while opening key
Can anyone help are guide my into which log files i need to post t

Right-click on that key and fix the security/permissions on it. You want to
give yourself full access.

Thanks alot i'll give that a go.Is the next step to try deleting the
"Lowrate" folder?
Do i need to uninstall any aspects of wmp 11 before attempting a
reinstall, i.e the windows mediia runtime 11 (if that's the correct
name-i'm not at my comp right now!) or certain log files?

I tried folowing this procedure, but I still get the "Unable to save
permission changes on Settings. Access is denied!" message. ZUULO says
"sorted out, thanks", but I have no idea what that means. What do I try
next?

You need to click on advanced and claim ownership before you can modify
the permissions.

Anyway if you're going to reinstall WMP and the permissions in the
registry are scrambled--which seems to happen a lot but I don't know
why--, you could delete the whole \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\
key, so the reinstall will build it anew the way it should be, it solved
my problem. (Always create a system restore point before modifying the
registry manually.) When attempting to delete you'll get the same access
denied, you'll have to hunt down the problematic keys and claim write
permission, claiming ownership beforehand if necessary.
