I've ripped several hundred vinyl LP's to WMP11. I've also had to "find album
info" on the web to add track titles, artist, composer and cover art. All of
my files are wav files. Now, I need to move my media files from my local
computer to a NAS. However, when I move the .wav files and have WMP rebulid
the library database, all of my vinyl LP tracks get thrown into one "Unknow"
album and I lose all of the cover art for all of my albums (including CD's
that I ripped using WMP 11. How do I move my media files w/o losing all of
the custom info that I had to load for my vinyl LP's? Why do I lose the
cover art and first track of all of my ripped CD's?

Thanks in advance.

This is typically WAV
Altough invented by Microsoft, WMP simply don't write the tags in WAV.
The info is in the library only.
Most media player don't support tagging in WAV.
You might consider conversion to another lossless format with tagging support

With the minor minor caveat that WMP11 writes WAV metadata when it rips
songs from CDs. As you correctly noted, it does not touch the file further,
as that can lead to problems/corrupt files.

Do you happen to know what type (ID3?) and which tags (album, title, etc) are
written?

If I understand correctly, tags are written in WAV when ripping a CD.
If you change e.g. the album title afterwards, will it be written in the tag
or not? (â??it does not touch the file furtherâ??)

Minor? Useful !
Thanks

It's the RIFF INFO chunk. WMP11 writes IART INAM IPRD IGNR ITOC and ITRK.
I don't know if that excites you, but that's it. You can easily create one
of these files by ripping to WAV. You can then read the fields with any
RIFF-reader (such as WMP) or even riffwalk.exe if you're into old VFW tools.
Or even notepad.exe. =)

WMP will not change the file "afterwards" no matter what. WMP10 incorrectly
gives the illusion of writing to the file. It doesn't do a darned thing, as
noted.

Hope this helps. =)
