Hi
I'm using windows media player 11, on XP Home.
wmp won't recognize my mp3s, I've tried deleting the database file in
Local Settings and re-scanning but it just won't find anything- or at
least won't add the files to my library.
I've recently installed the full AVG Internet Security product, that's
the only thing different I can think of.
It worked fine up until a week or so ago
Any ideas?
thanks from
Craig

If you open My Music folder and click on any MP3 music file will it launch
WMP 11 and play the file?

If not then open WMP 11>right click on any blank area in black Menu at top
and select "Show Classic Menus" and this will display the Toolbar at top.
Now click on Tools>Options>File Types Tab> and be sure you have a check
beside MP3 audio file (mp3).

Next click on the drop down arrow under Library>Add to library>Advanced
Options and with a check in Personal Folders be sure that the folder where
your .mp3 files are stored is correct in the location string. It has to be
specific and not such as All Users listed under Monitored Folders. You might
not have the correct storage folder with the correct string selected that
could be causing your problem. With the correct string where the .mps files
are stored if you click on OK it will then find all the .mp3 files and place
them in your WMP 11 library.

Hopefully this info will be of help to you....

Also I forgot to mention that if you Right click on any .mp3 file you can
select "Add to Windows Player Media List".

If prior info in my prior email does not work then open your My Music folder
with all your .mp3 files go to Edit in Toolbar and Select All then right
click on all the files highlighted in blue and select "Add to Windows Player
Media List". This could be a work around etc.

I've tried these steps
When I scanned for files as described it scanned the My Music folder
where I keep the music, but didn't add anything
When I right-clicked and add the files to the media player list, it
added them to play them but not to the library
I am confused as to what the problem may be- is it possibly the result
of virus infection?
or does anyone else have a solution
thanks from
Craig

You might try posting in an appropriate newsgroup where you might get
more/better answers. This is a Windows Media Center group, which has nothing
to do with this problem.

Try an XP or Media Player group, where there would be more people
knowledgeable about this problem.
