I am looking all over the web for a suitable TV tuner to work with my Vista
WMC. All I see throughout are many people having problems. Why is this so
difficult?

For example I tried working with a Hauppauge PCI 1250. Totally hopeless.
Even with their most up to date driver from their web site the stuff
prevents the Vista from shutting down. This is 2008 guys! Why do we still
have 10 year old type driver problems?

Question to all here --- Does anybody have a Vista Home premium compatible
TV tuner that works with Comcast (CA/San Francisco) that can get Analogue
and Digital TV stations with no problem. Anybody?

The rules are very simple MC requires that any tuner/driver that it uses
supply DBA standard encoded MPEG2 programs just like a standard DVD does.
Your tuner does this for digital but not for analog.
Also MC will not support both tuners on a Hybrid tuner card such as the 1250
since both tuners can not be used at the same time.
You most likely will only be able to use the Hauppauge WinTV6 application
for your card for analog programs

The Hauppauge WinTV HVR 1600 or 1800 both work well in WMC because of their
dual tuner design that affords a seperate analog NTSC tuner for cable or OTA
analog and one digital ATSC / QAM tuner that is used for ATSC tuning (OTA
digital) in WNC.

There are other cards that work as well, but cards that have a single Hybrid
tuner must be limited to use for tuning only one source within WMC. In other
words all tuners must be setup to tune only one source at a time within MCE.
It's allwas been that way with WMC to elimininate recording conficts.

Thanks guys, So will the 1600 or 1800 work with something like Comcast
cable. I really don't need analogue since it's going to be dropped anyway
next year.

Anybody out there gotten Comcast cable to work in WMC with a 1600 or 1800?
I don't want to get another card unless I am sure. Got screwed once by
Hauppauge!

The switch to digital only affects Over-The-Air, you will continue to get
analog through your cable connection.

I've used both the 1600 and 1800 with Comcast analog tuned with one tuner
and ATSC OTA with the other, it works as advertised. As for when the analog
transmission will be turned off in favor of all digital no one knows for
sure but the provider. I've read that part of Chicago Comcast area has
already made the change to all digital. A analog tuner can still be hooked
up to a digital receivers analog outputs regardless. You don't get HD that
way but you should get a pretty good picture regardless.

I have two HVR-1600s and two AverMedia A180s in the same PC running Vista
and everything works as it should. I never install Hauppauge's WinTV app
just the drivers and the tuners perform well in Vista.
