    - Windows Messenger error message in media center I now get the error message "Messenger Failure - You must install Windows Messenger etc" every time I start Media Center. Messenger is still there, it still runs separately, but I reinstalled it anyway - no good. I have Update Rollout 2 for Media Center installed, but I reinstalled it anyway. No good. This just started today after using media center daily for the last 3 years on this computer, and I did not install anything new. Any ideas?     - Security Center Problem I recently uninstalled my antivirus/firewall (Defender Pro) and the uninstall reported it as finished successfully. Unfortunaly, the Security Center still reports both as present. When I turned on the windows firewall the security center reported that I have two active firewalls. And when I tried to load another antivirus program the antivirus install manager reported that another antivirus was present. I have searched my system and have not been able to find a file or reference to the Defender Pro files anywhere. I contacted the Defender Pro support people and they were not able to resolve my problem. So I am stuck and do not know how to remove whatever reference the security center is holding onto.     - Black Screen instead of menu when stopping recording When I stop a recorded tv session (using the stop button on the remote) I used to get a menu where I could resume, start over, delete etc.. Now I just get a black screen. I can workaround by selecting the recorded tv button, but when I navigate back to the recording, it has lost all history of where it is at.     - OT - Ghost 2003 "Read Sector Failure" I know this isn't XP or even MS, but Symantec is next to useless, especially for an 5-year-old product, and there is very little traffic in the symantec.support. ... newsgroup. I know there are Ghost 2003 users who hang out here, so here's hoping ... I had been happily using Ghost 2003 on XP Pro sp3 to make images to a partition on a secondary internal drive. I bought a WD 500 GB USB external drive. It works fine with other apps, including Acronis TI. But Ghost 2003 crashes immediately after starting PC-DOS with Error Number 29004 "Read sector failure, result = 1, drive = 2, sectors 6291519 to 6291521." There are 3 physical hard drives in the system - 2 inside the case and 1 USB. I *think* the problem is that the USB drivers that came with Ghost 2003 can't access the newer USB drive. However, Ghost crashes now even if I direct the images back to the internal drive. The first time I tried to do this, Ghost took me to the "Add Ghost Disk Identification" wizard. So I think that now Ghost is failing when it tries to access one of its "identified" disks. How can I "un-identify" the USB drive as far as Ghost is concerned? (Or even better, can anyone suggest how I tell Ghost to use better USB drivers?) I've run chkdsk /F on all drives (and all partitions); I've uninstalled and reinstalled Ghost 2003.     - usb problems I am currently running Windows XP Media Center 2005 and am having problems with my usb devices. My printer and MP3 player were working fine up to recently, now my system says something is plugged in but does not recognize anything. I have tried the supposed "HOT FIX", unplugging & plugging in every device, and the suspending power fixes to no avail. Can anybody help me out? Apparently from what I read, SP3 fixes this problem, but alas there is problems installing that as well.     - Unable to launch any windows programs I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004. After removing "AntiSpyware 2008" Windows Media Player, Display, and other applications would not load. A message box appears "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in The Folders Options control panel." I am unable to do so in the Folders Option control panel. I want to to repair the files or fix the problem. I am not able to do any restores. Can this problem be fixed and how?     - vista and media centre 360 extender Hi not sure if you can help with this.     - Unable to read clip art Cds Get 'abnormal program termination error' when trying to access CD's that use GraphicsDesk.exe . Can uninstall/install the graphics software with no problem.     - Internet Explorer Prompt Message! I am using internet Explorer 7. All of a sudden I started getting the message: "we were unable to save your prefercenes. Please try again" when I open an email in yahoo or occasionally when I just navigate to another page. The error pops up in a box entitled Windows Internet Explorer with one of those yellow triagle on the left and an exclamation mark inside it.     - Want to disable auto rebooting for automatic updates Is there some way you can disable automatic rebooting for automatic updates? After an automatic update, I will be in the middle of running an application and get a dumb msg asking if I want to reboot now or reboot later. In reality, I want to disable automatic reboots until I get finished with the task at hand, and I strongly resent this stupid intrusion interrupting and complicating my work, I want to turn it off in order to retain control over a computer that is rightfully mine and not Microsoft's!!     - Vista Media Center and Sky TV (Composite Input) Hi all, I'm new to the forum (plenty of great information around!) but have been searching for help on the above topic for over a week to no avail. I currently have a PlusTV Hybrid PCI (DVB-T 210SE) tuner card linked up to my Sky Box via a composite connection. This works perfectly in Hyper Media Center by simply changing the source to composite. My problem is I can't find any way to have VMC look at the composite input signal. The wizard only seems to detect analogue input through the RF cable, and the picture quality is poor at best. Any help on setting up alternate input sources is vista media center is much appreciated.     - Problems with Sony PCVA IR6U IR Blaster/ receiver I have Sony VAIO PCV-RZ-40CG system with Sony's PCVA IR6U IR Blaster. Since yesterday, one port of this 2 port blaster has stopped working. For some reason, only one port is sending IR commands to the STB. I have 2 STBs with 2 IR bugs. One port of the blaster seems to have stopped working. I tried switing the bugs (to diff ports on the blaster) and I have confirmed that STB connected to defective port, is not able to change channels any more. I don't see LEDs lighting up when I change channels on IR bug connected to defective port. I have tried re-calibrating the STB and setting up TV signal again. When its time to calibrate STB connected to defective port, the IR blaster simply does not recognize the STB remote at all. Two questions. 1) How to I fix it? 2) Where do I buy a new IR blaster kit? I tried Best Buy, Fry's today and they have no idea what it means and/or where to find one. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.     - XP Media Center Recently I had to do a repair on my computer due to several issues. Since doing the repair, I have been unable to get the Media Center to operate properly. Up until this weekend, I could get it to allow me to watch dvds, and then it would generate a crash report. Now, I get: ehshell.exe Process id=0x7b8 (1976) Thread id=0x1780 (6016) Registered JIT debugger not availaable. An attempt to launch JIT debugger with debugger with following command resulted in an error code of 0x2(2) corbg.exe !a0x7b8 I now am not even able to get the Media Center to open. I don't know if this has anything to do with the same issue, but I also get this: C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\mscorwks.dll Any help or direction towards fixing this problem is greatly appreciated. After a number of virus and trojana attacked my system, I decided to repair it using the CD that came with the system.     - Dual Tuners I have been using MCE for 4 years now. For 2 years I have been getting my HD signal OTA using an Hauppauge HVR 950. Everything works great. I record to one of the hard drives in my system. My system: Shuttle 750gb total memory (3 hard drives total) 2g of ram 2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX Trouble is, I want to record 2 shows at one time.     - Recording Live TV I have pre-recorded shows on my DVR. I start the recording so it shows on Media Center as Live TV. Then I press the record button. It does record, however, it gives the title as Sports Center which was the very first think I recorded. I have since deleted the Sports Center recording. It continues to show when I hit record.     - You may not believe this As hard as it is to believe, I spent 3 and 1/2 hours today and a few hours yesterday downloading ftp software, trying to find software that will allow me to change the file permissions to 755 so that I can upload perl scripts to my cgi-bin.     - Kworld PCI 120 with XP SP3 MCE Loss of Signal I just bought and installed a Kworld PlusTV HD PCI 120 TV tuner from Fry's on my Gateway GT4010 PC with MCE 2005 XP SP3. The TotalMedia3 software that comes with it works fine, but Media Center does not. It says "Loss of Signal. Media Center has stopped capturing data due to low data rate in the TV signal. ...". I have connected the coax from Comcast cable TV to the card, and as I say, it works fine with the TotalMedia3 software that came with it, but Media Center gives this error message. I suspect maybe I clicked on something wrong when I installed this gizmo, but don't have any idea where to look or what I might need to do. I have many years of PC experience, but am new to Media Center. Media Center finds all the channels and lets me select from them (all analog from cable, no settop box, no digital tuner), gives the correct titles for the show on the selected channel, but produces neither video nor audio. The remote doesn't seem to work either, although that's not a biggie with me. My hdwe configuration is a Gateway GT4010 PC with 1 GB RAM, 200 GB HD, integrated Nvidia GeForce 6100 video, AMD 3500 CPU. When I look at Device Manager, everything including the tuner looks good. It shows the following: PCI ATSC Hybrid Audio Device PCI ATSC Hybrid DTV Device PCI ATSC Hybrid Video Device ... The tuner card's electronics are made by Conexant, from what I've been able to dig up. I bought this gizmo to educate myself on this facet of Windows, but could sure use some help with this problem. Any suggestions? See http://blogs.zdnet.com/microsoft/?p=1522 Microsoft have finally pulled their head out of the sand (or part of their anatomy) and commented officially on "Fiji" the long, looooong awaited update to Media Center in Vista. As expected it improves the current pitiful support for international TV standards by (amongst others) adding support for 'free to air' DVB-S, and MHEG-5 interactive services (aka. The Red Button). I presume it now also supports DVB subtitles. Now for the bad news. Not too unexpected, there is still no official mechanism for accessing subscription TV (for DVB-C, DVB-S, or even DVB-T). - Bummer. There appears to be no support for DVB-S2. Hello Microsoft - in case you did not notice this is the 21st Century. Already Fiji is obsolete and it is not even shipping yet! There is incredibly no H.264 support!!!! Not only does this completely prevent viewing of any HDTV (even free channels) in Europe, but some countries use nothing _but_ H.264, e.g. Norway and New Zealand. So those countries will still not be able to use Microsoft Media Center at all. My ghast is well and truly flabbered.     - IE6 Lan Connection with Proxy + VPN help! Hi, I have IE6 with XP SP3. I am at work on a lan connection, which has a proxy guarding Internet access, and this is stored in the Lan connections window in IE. I decided to attempt a VPN connection to my home router (A draytek 2800) using PPTP. This connects and works well, and I have specified for it to not replace my local gateway. This means all local traffic works and all remote traffic works concurrently. However I have discovered that once I connect to the VPN, IE seems to use the LAN connection to access the Internet, but uses any settings specified in the VPN dial up connection option. Because I did not have the proxy put in here it would not connect to the Internet, if I put the proxy in it works fine. Why is IE doing this and how do I prevent it? I added Undelete from the Available Toolbars Buttons to the Current Toolbar Buttons in the Customize Toolbar box. It shows on the toolbar if the Customize Toolbar box is open, but once I close it, the Undelete icon disappears. How can I get it to stay once the Customize Toolbar box is closed. If you have tried more than on CD/DVD and none of them will mount most likely
your drive is dead. Replace the drive.

The funny thing is Bill that there are many people with the exact same
problem with this dvd burner and I know that mine isn't dead but yet for some
reason it doesn't work...Might be because the driver is dated for 2001 maybe
a update is in store for this...But hey I'm just a consumer what do I know...

You won't know, until you replace the Drive.

DVD burners are cheap.
There is one here for $20, Lite-on is a good brand.
