    - fax to PC Am having problem getting faxes to go directly to my PC. When my printer is on, they automatically print out - which I don't want. If the printer is off, that is when they will go to PC. Which means I keep having to turn printer on when I want to print something - many times a day. A real pain. How can I fix this?     - Accidently disabled display adapter and can't see, safe mode wont Call me stupid but I was trying to find a way to change the resolution on a machine that was infected (I had just done a clean install of XP Home Edition and cleaned it). The resolution was 16 bit and the properties tab was greyed out so I could not add a new driver. In any event, I went in and disabled the VGA adapter thinking it would help. Low and behold, I reboot and find out that the monitor does not work. I change monitors and nothing is better. I try and reboot in safe mode and it is still dark. I change the VGA mode on bios but still no good results. How can I enable the VGA adapter without using my screen given that it is dark? Is there anything I can do??     - How can you set up two TV signal configurations Hi, I have a normal TV aerial and a PayTV cable plugged into my PC. If I want to watch the FTA HD channels, I go into WMC and set the TV signal configuration for the DVB-T antenna settings. If I want to close that and watch my PayTV, I need to re-configure the TV Signal setup to my Cable settings. Is there a way that I can have both configurations saved to select from rather than always having to re-configure the TV Signal settings whenever I want to swap sources?     - Vista MCE Needs Help or Restting I have installed all the updates that are available. Now when I play a file in my Video Library, I can't control it as expected. If it is paused, and another application has focus, it will resume in the background. When it is stopped and Done, it is shown as a thumbnail at the bottom of the screen with a stop button. MCE will automatically start the thumbnail if another application has focus. Giving focus back to MCE results in the thumbnail restarting from the beginning. How can I stop this behavour?     - Icons on my desktop all disappeared with the task bar -- nasser OS< XP Professional SP2 Dear members, A few days ago the power supply box got corrupted and stopped working, and as a result the computer got overheated, consequently I replaced the power supply box with a new one. As I restated the computer; it behaved strangely, first, I logged on and all the icons on the desktop disappeared with the task bar and different messages started appearing one saying: 1- Faulty application explorer exe. version 6.0.2900.3156. 2- To help you protect your computer windows has closed this programme.     - hdmi no audio playing a dvd hiya, got vista ultimate 32bit edition installed with sp1. On my motherboard i have an hdmi connection i use to connect my media center up to my tv. The only problem there is, audio works when watching tv and recorded shows, even xvid's work. The only thing that doesnt work is when i play dvd's, the picture comes up fine, but theres no audio. When i use power dvd8 to play the same dvd, itll work fine, good picture and audio. So what im asking is, if there is anyway to change the codec windows uses to be able to use the one power dvd is using, so i can get audio from within the media center. I had a look in the media center setup and also the audio properties, but nothing i tried worked, so is there settings for media center outside of the program? Any suggestions would be most welcome.     - Intermittant Sound Stutter in HD I have an problem where the sound pauses for about a half a second at random times during HD playback only. The video is not effected nor is the pause repeatable if replayed. There doesn't appear to be a cpu utilization issue during these episodes and plenty of memory is available. The problem does not occur during SD playback and not specific a particular sound mode. I am running Vista SP1 on a Asus P5LD2 mb with a Intel Core 2 1.86GHz CPU with 2Gb of RAM and a nVidia 8600GT video card with 256Mb of memory.     - Min / Max / Close / not working with 512mb video memory Problem: If I am watching live tv, I can move my mouse to the top of screen and get the bar that lets me min/max/close ONCE. If I then minimize the live tv so I can use windows side of the computer and then re-click on media center, it comes back up but I am unable to ever get that top tool bar back (to min/max/close) and media center starts behaving strangely. Here's the kicker. This happened with an xfx 8500 512mb video card, so then I tried a 256mb PNY and it DID NOT happen. Then I tried a 8600gt 512MB PNY and IT DID happen . So it appears that there is a problem with MCE 2005 and 512mb video cards of at least the nvidia brand ? Anyone have any tweeks to fix this so I can keep using my 512mb video card?     - Trouble Connecting Xbox360 to media Last night I setup my Xbox360 on my home network to connect to my pc and share media. i have XP Media Center Edition 2005 and it has all the updates. I went to the MS site and got my code number and downloaded the extender software on the pc and all that but I am really limited as to what I can see. In Windows Media Player on the pc I see a bunch of videos..but the only thing I can see on the Xbox360 are pictures. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I thought I'd be able to see anything I can see in Media Center on the Xbox but it doesn't appear that way. I also can't see recorded TV which is really what I'd want the most. Anybody? Help.     - Windows XP search companion I am running Windows XP 2002, with service pack 2. I am no longer able to get the search companion, which gives the option to change preferences as to how you want to search. For Example: photos, documents rather than files and folders.     - Guide download keeps stopping I've had a guide download problem for 3-4 weeks now - I wondered if anyone can help? The guide downloads every day, for 3-4 days and then it stops. It shows it is still downloading, reports that the guide is up to date and schedules the next one for a day's time. If I try to do it manually, it says it is up to date, doesn't download it - and the guide stays as it is. There are no errors in the event log, or displayed on the screen. It just says the guide is up to date. The only way I can get it to start downlaoding again is to delete/rename the EPG folder and download afresh. This works, and keeps working for 3-4 days, but then stops again. I've done everything in Aaron's blog - http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/articles/526231.aspx . This includes:- 1. Making sure the clock is synchronised correctly 2. Saying I'm not using the guide, rebooting and then setting it up to use the guide 3. Stopping the EHshed process, renaming the EPG folder and then setting it up again. ( I have done the repeatedly, and also tried doing the same but renaming Ehome) 4. Using the MCE Repair ( http://blogs.msdn.com/peterrosser/archive/2005/10/20/482974.aspx ) and MCEreset applications ( http://www.salloway.org.uk/mediacenter/util/index.htm#config ) , and setting up again. 5. Re-registering the guide DLL I'm using MCE 2005, with DVB-T in the UK, and the guide for Heathfield. This has worked fine for a couple of years and started giving me problems 3-4 weeks ago.     - Disk Management Tool Menu Options Grayed Out OK. I have a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. I installed a Western Digital Protege internal hard drive as a slave. The jumpers are correct, and everything is hooked up properly. The BIOS recognizes that the hard drive is there, but it is not showing up in "My Computer". I have gone into Computer Management, and tried to assign a drive letter using the Disk Management Tool, but, while Computer Management recognizes the hard drive, and says it is "Healthy" and "Active", the options on the right-click menu are all grayed out except for "Delete Partition" and "Help".     - No Desktop Icons, Taskbar, Start, anything PLEASE HELP!!!!! i have windows XP media center edition that came with my HP pavillion desktop my problems started about a month ago when my preset desktop background disappered and all i had was a blue screen. I tried changing it but when i did the background option on was always "disabled". i also got an error message about processing some paramers c576dc9 or something like that and i would just click cancel a few times and all was well. Then a few weeks ago i wanted to use the comp and all of the sudden i kept on receiving error messages from windows data executionn prevention about my internet explorer and as soon as i clicked off the message it woudl give me the option to send an error report and i would say no and the cycle would begin again. Then my blue background vanished and i was left with the active desktop recovery and i would tell the comp to recover my desktop but nothing happened. A few days ago, i logged on and got my original desktop picture back but i had no icons, taskbar, start button etc. I pulled up task mananger and tried to run explorer.exe in the new task bar but nothing happened. Depending on which user i signed in as, i would get an error message about dr.mortem postmortem debugger having to close so i would close. So in the end no matter what user account i log in on i can only see the desktop picture and nothing else. I have tried to start the computer i safe mode, safe mode in networking, and last good configuration. I had minor sucess with the last good configuration-- i got a taskbar with a start button but i could not use the start button. i think that some kind of spyware/adware/malware is what's affecting my comp but i don't know how to scan/remove it seeing as how i can't do anything on my comp.     - Configuration error on Xbox360 extender and Windows Media Center V I'm running Vista Home Premium on a laptop with a wireless connection to a Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router WPN824. I also have a XBox 360 with wired connection to the same router. Both the PC and the XBox see each other and on the XBox I can go to the "media blade" the choose either music or pictures and play music. uPNP is on. No ports manually configured. When I try to add the XBox as a media extender on the PC the XBox gives me the 8 digit code and when I input it at the PC it tells me I have at least one firewall (Norton Antivirus 2008 is the only other piece I have running) in addition to Windows Firewall and tells me I need to manually configure it. Media Center then keeps telling me there is a configuration error "an error was encountered while configuring your computer for use with this extender". I get the same error with the laptop wired and wireless connections. I tried with windows firewall switched off. I tried turning off Norton Antivirus 2008 (not uninstalling). Any ideas? Thanks.     - Vista 64-bit Media Center doesn't recognize FIOS TV STB remote Just got the HP media center PC and connected the IR receiver/blaster to it and connected existing Verizon FIOS TV Motorola QIP 2500-2 STB to it via s-video and RCA audio cables. Trying to configure for TV. Problem I continue to experience is the Windows Media Center wont' recognize the Verizon FIOS TV remote control. The IR receiver seems to work as it accurately senses the MCE remote to launch apps, etc. But during the setup step where asked to send button presses from the Verizon remote to the IR receiver for it to "learn" my remote...can't get it to recognize it and it gets stuck in "IR Learning" mode.     - A question on extenders I am building a high in vista media center... When I had my house built, all media outlets (ie. cable, satellite, antenna) also have two ethernet jacks, so my house is hard wired wth gigabit ethernet. Most extenders seem to be wireless. 1) Do they make an extender that is designed to be hardwired? Is there an advantage to that? Where would I find information on them? 2) On the wireless extenders, does that essentially mean you could take a TV out to the deck, use a wireless extender, and watch timer (not wired connection except electric)? 3) Is there a downside to wireless extenders?     - Suggested improvements for Media Center (Vista) I have recently built a Vista Home Premium system primarily for Media Center. I have ripped ~600 CD's and overall I am pretty happy with Media Center but there certainly is room for improvement. I would like to see is the ability to display artists from albums tagged as Soundtrack or Various Artists. For example if I go into Media Center and display my music by artist none of the artists from these CD's is displayed. But if I click on an artist and it brings up an option to display albums or songs if I select songs you can see songs that are from soundtracks for example (assuming that artist is on said album). I realize this could greatly expand the artist list if you have numerous compilation albums but it would make it easier to access this type of information. My biggest complaint is there is no way, that I can see, to manage playlists with Media Center. I would like to easily add tracks to playlists while they are playing in Media Center and that doesn't appear to be possible. Also it's not easy to delete tracks and their associated files while playing them in Media Center. I must drill down to the album and the track before I can delete the track. I am in tech support for a living, so it should be fairly straight forward, if I can identify the best components. I live in the USA. 1) Is there a URL to the optimum way to build a media center? 2) Is there a URL of reviews of tuner cards and/or remotes to help choose the best for Vista MCE? 3) As I understand it, there are 3 ways to get digital TV - Over The Air (OTA), cable, satellite (I am assuming, but don't really know, that both cable and satellite are digital or available in digital, which is a separate issue from HD) and IP (i.e. AT&T Uverse product). Does Media Center work with all, or not? I heard/read somewhere that it does not work with satellite...but to me, all of this would be a function of the TV Tuner, not Media Center. Is it a function of the TV tuner card? 4) On the TV Tuner cards themselves, I have gotten confused reading their descriptions. I want a 2 source tuner card, with those sources being any combination digital of OTA/cable/satellite so I have all bases covered (at this point, I donâ??t see any reason to have analog TV capable TV Tunerâ?¦advise if I am missing something). But TV tuners seem to come with one analog input and one digital, which makes no sense to me (since analog is going away). Please advise. 5) I understand in XP Media Center, an analog tuner was required. In vista Media Center, there is no such requirement, they may all be digital (and even HD). 6) About connecting the Media Center to the TVâ?¦ I have an HD Sharp Aqueous, so I would want to connect the Video via HDMI and the sound via some digital method to my AV receiver to pump 5.1 surround to the room. I live in the USA. 1) Is there a URL to the optimum way to build a media center? 2) Is there a URL of reviews of tuner cards and/or remotes to help choose the best for Vista MCE? 3) As I understand it, there are 3 ways to get digital TV - Over The Air (OTA), cable, satellite (I am assuming, but don't really know, that both cable and satellite are digital or available in digital, which is a separate issue from HD) and IP (i.e. AT&T Uverse product). Does Media Center work with all, or not? I heard/read somewhere that it does not work with satellite...but to me, all of this would be a function of the TV Tuner, not Media Center. Is it a function of the TV tuner card? 4) On the TV Tuner cards themselves, I have gotten confused reading their descriptions. I want a 2 source tuner card, with those sources being any combination digital of OTA/cable/satellite so I have all bases covered (at this point, I donâ??t see any reason to have analog TV capable TV Tunerâ?¦advise if I am missing something). But TV tuners seem to come with one analog input and one digital, which makes no sense to me (since analog is going away). The computer itself only has a VGA, but I could add a video card that has HDMI or DVI or both. So, how do you get the video to HDMI and the Audio to the AV Receiver to generate 5.1 surround? Do I need a DVI/HDMI video card or is it all done through the TV Tuner card? 7) Some TV tuners come with remotes, which seems like a good idea.     - RECORDING QUESTION... I have noticed that many people record TV shows. They are then uploaded to the web or the newsgroups or even the bit torrent sites. The shows look great and what I have seen is that they are almost always maybe 99% of them Xvid or Dvix format. Does anyone know how this is done? Can this be done in Vista Media Center? I thought that VMCE only recorded in the dreaded dvr-ms format. If I am wrong can anyone show me how to record in Xvid or Dvix via VMCE.     - blue background to desktop icons I have had this occur twice: Suddenly for no apparent reason a blue coloured box appears behind the names of the desktop icons and the letters turn to black. I have read all the solutions posted in the past - but none of them worked. Finally I right clicked on the desktop and went into the desktop tag. Then I went into the drop arrow for the colours - it was blue. I clicked on "other" and moved the arrow up to the very top, i.e. "no colour" and all the icons reverted to the previous display; i.e. no coloured box and white letters for the names of the respective sortcuts.     - new problems how to resume autorun option for windows professional computers? once I pressed the 'shift' key while inserting a blank dvd-r disc by fault. now I want to resume the autorun functionality back to normal. problem(s): Burn4free program won't detect it when I tried to burn data.     - Does not Detect Cable Hello, I know this has been asked a dozen times before so I will point out the following: My driver is up to date, I do have an MPEG-1/2/4 support for analog and 2 for digital, and I have every codec known to man, I use CCCP. I am running a Toshiba Satlite U305-s107, dual core, Vista Home Premium, two gigs of ram, and my tuner card is AVer Media- AverTV Hubrid NanoExpress (HC82 ATSC). So, it says that I only have an antenna signal, but all I have is a cable plugged in. I have spent the past two hours messing around with WMC trying to get it to understand that I want it to go cable and it refuses to detect the cable connection. This is a Media Center group, your question should be posted on a more
appropriate forum or you should check with tech support for whatever Fax
program you are using.
