hiya, got vista ultimate 32bit edition installed with sp1.
On my motherboard i have an hdmi connection i use to connect my media center
up to my tv.
The only problem there is, audio works when watching tv and recorded shows,
even xvid's work. The only thing that doesnt work is when i play dvd's, the
picture comes up fine, but theres no audio.
When i use power dvd8 to play the same dvd, itll work fine, good picture and
audio.
So what im asking is, if there is anyway to change the codec windows uses to
be able to use the one power dvd is using, so i can get audio from within the
media center.
I had a look in the media center setup and also the audio properties, but
nothing i tried worked, so is there settings for media center outside of the
program?
Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Thanks :D

well managed to find the solution.
unchecking "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device."
made the dvd sound come through.
seems kinda random option really, dunno why that being selected would make
dvd audio not work. but hey ho, im happier now.

It's a computer and an operating system - you're not supposed to
understand it.

I'm just kidding around, of course, but you know, I might have hit on a
fundamental truth by accident :-)

Sometimes programmers don't check what they do against typical users.
Before retiring, I was a programmer, but luckily my users were usually
in house, and they could get on my case when I did things like the
cause of your problem.

lol, i barely knew windows xp, just the bits that didnt work the way they
should and how to make them work. is all i knew about it.

Im happy now though, means i can put my media center back downstairs in
front of the tv where its meant to be!
Everything else works a treat on it, only the hdmi sound and i knew there
was a simple solution to it.
Now i can get back to recording all me favorite tv shows n watching my films
:)
