I can't seem to find a solution so I'll back up and start over with
questions. It seems I have a missing batch file. That file is F in MSDOS
(according to the reinstallion CD when I tried to do a repair) What is the F
batch and how do I fix it? My computer keeps crashing and I have to reboot.
I've run counterspy and McAfee.

In addition to the crashing, I also cannot download updates to security...and
there are ALOT of them since my update scheduler was turned off and I didn't
know it for about 2 years!

Consider taking this question to a newsgroup for the version of Windows
that you have (which is one of many relevant pieces of information you
didn't mention). This question is clearly not for Media Center, and you
would almost certainly find more relevant expertise in the correct
newsgroup.
