I am new to burning photos onto cds to share with others. I have XP MC, but
did not use MC to burn the photos. I just sent them to my DVD/CD drive and
they burned just fine. The photos are there because I checked the disks after
burning. My question is, will the cds be readable, say for a slideshow, on
other computers? In other words, are the cds finalized?

If you look at the CD with Windows Explorer, right click > Properties, It
should say 0 bytes free if the disk is finalized.

If you have burning software such as Nero, when you look at the disk info,
it will tell you a read only disk if finalized.

Whether the disk is readable on another computer or stand alone players,
depends on the computer or player more that anything else.

Thanks for your reply. Properties do not show 0 bytes free, which must mean
it's not finalized. How do I finalize?

I don't know how to do that in software other than Nero Burning ROM. In Nero
you get an option to finalize a disk if you add a small file to the CD and
check the finalize box.

The file can just be a txt file with nothing but a new line inside.

Thanks. Is Nero better than the Windows or MS Digital Image or Media Center
burners, which are on my pc? I noticed that Roxio provides the Windows
burner, but it does not act like it did when I had XP Home in my old
computer. It allowed me to finalize by simply checking one little box.

How do I get Nero?

You probably can use Nero to finalize the current disks. I don't know for
sure, I have never tried closing disks that were burned with another burner.
You should be able to finalize if you can add another session to the disk.

Nero is here. You can buy Nero at Newegg.com.

Nero at Newegg.

Thanks again. Will only try Nero if it doesn't cost anything. Took one of my
8 disks to another computer today and the pix showed up and i was able to
view them all.
Think I'll just see what happens when others try it. Then I'll decide what
to do about Nero. Yes, we live about 2 hours west of Nashville. We go to
Franklin, which is a few miles south of Nashville, at least once a month.

Yeah, it costs something, The program is about $60 on Newegg. It is worth
every penny if you do a lot of DVD/CD burning.

You will not find it for free.

The bundled versions included with some DVD/CD drives are not full function.
I have a copy or two of those versions, I don't use them. Besides the
software bundled with a drive, only works with that drive.

As long as the Computer is Windows, the disk should work OK, it is stand
alone players that can not see the CD. Some players are worse that others.
You really have to read the spec on that player to know what disks it will
play.

You must be in Jacksonville or close by.

I'm sure you mean Jackson, as Jacksonville is in FL. We live about 70 miles
northeast of Jackson TN on Kentucky Lake, about 3 miles south of the KY
border. Beautiful area. Thanks for all the help. I think everyone I made cds
for use Windows so unless they're living in the stone age, the cds should
play as long as they use their pc instead of a standalone.

Glad you got it sorted.

And yes, I did mean Jackson TN, on IH 40.
