    - Which DVD Media? Ok, so I am really new to DVD burning - in fact, I've never done it before. However, I read that using Windows Media Center Edition (which I have) it isn't to difficult. So, I would like to burn a DVD movie onto a DVD. My question is, how do I know what type of blank DVD's to burn them to? DVD+R? DVD-R? DVD+RW? DVD-RW? (you get the point). I have a Sony Vaio Desktop Computer with Windows XP MCE version 2002.     - messenger and Media Center I just did a clean install after SP3 destroyed my registry. I have disabled messenger, but Media Center is still trying to find it, even though I have turned it off in Media Center as per this post: if you don't use it, you can go into Settings in Media Center (Settings, Messenger and Caller ID) and uncheck the Messenger option.     - LIP on MCE 2005 I own a copy of Windows MCE that has been pestering me for quite some time. I live in Europe, and apparently my MCE copy is not in the language it appears to be. Rather it is an English copy with with a special language pack installed on top of it. The Home and Premium editions are not assembled this way. Now, the problem is that my native language is only offered as a LIP and I can't get it to install on this OS because English is not the parent language for the LIP.     - Can't change aspect ratio in Media Center Media Center won't use all the space on my new wide-screen (22") monitor. There's 1.5 inches of unused screen on either side of the image when I'm watching video in Media Center. So if I'm watching something in letterbox, rather than filling or nearly filling my screen, it's a letterbox within a square (within a wide screen). To be clear, the welcome page in Media Center does fill the screen. It's just the TV or DVD image that won't. When I try to adjust display properties in MC (settings>general>appearance), I get sent to a non-interactive Web page with instructions that show how it should work, but doesn't for me. When I re-run Media Center, the wizard takes me through TV signal and Internet setup and that's ALL. No display settings. I tried adjusting the display in Media Player with tech support, but that had no effect. The computer is an HP MCE M270N purchased in 2003. The monitor is an HPw2207.     - cannot load files error message Everything seems to be working fine on my media center except when I try to stop a movie. When I press the stop button I get a message saying "Cannot load files. Some of the files needed to play video or radio are missing or corrupt. Try restarting." After hitting ok I get a Media Center crash report and an ehshell error message.     - unable to install media center extender for xbox onto MCE 2005 i am unable to install media center extender, the setup program hangs right after execution and displays the following error message.     - More than 4 Extenders I just purchased an HP MediaSmart TV (great price on Amazon.com). It is going to replace a tv that I have with an extender on it already (Xbox 360). I know that you are limited to 4 extenders. My question is 2 parts. Is that concurrent or is that registered? If you decide to upgrade one to a different model, how do you delete the old one? We are switching users from one domain to another so any files or folders created by the user from the old domain will not be available to the same user on the new domain.     - Export settings I have just gotten a new computer and I was wondering if there was a way to export all of my settings (or even just a few) from my old computer so that I don't have to reprogram media center on my new computer with all of the series and settings that I set up on my old computer. I know there is no export function (at least I haven't found one) but if there is a file that I might be able to copy over.     - can I remove Media Center from Windows XP Media Center Edition? I have XP MCE 2005, but don't use the Media Center. It has always had glitches and was difficult to use, and even to close down. (my cursor disappears, and is difficult to regain) In addition, it conflicts with some of my hardware/software. Even more, I can't get Media Center not to start up and and interfere when I'm doing things it is capable of doing. In short, it won't shut up, and I hate it with all my heart and soul. I understand that MCE is XP Pro with Media Center injected- can I get rid of media center, and retain XP Pro? Barring that, if I buy a copy of just plain XP Pro, without the key, can I use my XP MCE key with it to install, or do I have to also get a new key? Would using the original key create problems with updates? Or, lastly, is there a way to reinstall my own original XP MCE without installing media center (is it optional)?     - SPDIF-in / -out Hi there, I'm using Vista MC. My problem is that my computer does have SPDIF-out onboard but not SPDIF-in. Thus, I should obtain a 3rd party sound card with both SPDIF-in and out right? What sound card and model should I get for just this purpose ? At the moment when I use the Audio SPDIF-out from my Satelite Decoder and connect directly to my SPDIF-in on my Logitech Sound System and so the audio is out of sync with my video feed (video trailing behind) thats flowing through the computer TV card first then to my TV Panel. On both units, whether I do it on the unit or at the PC, when I go into VMC and goto the Network Tune (or Performance) where it would show the network throughput in bar graph form, VMC crashes and sends an error report.     - VMC and Linksys Extenders - Pixelation Issue Hello, I have a Dell XPS420 system with 2 Linksys Media Center extenders, the DMA2100 and DMA2200. Both extenders connect via Wireless-N (Linksys WRT330N router) and the PC has a gigabit Intel Pro/1000 network card. The DMA2100 is hooked up to a standard def tv via S-Video and runs 99% of the time without issue. The DMA2200 is hooked up to an LCD HDTV via HDMI at 1080p. Almost everyday after about an hour or so of watching TV (SD or HD), the picture starts pixelating and many times the unit becomes unresponsive. I am sometimes able to skip back a bit and get it back on track, but many times I have to power down the unit and restart it in order to get it to work.     - VMC DVD Decoders Hello, I am having some issues getting the best decoder to work with Vista Media Center. I am using an ATI video card with Component output to the TV. I have used the VMCD utility to adjust which decoder I use: With the Microsoft Mpeg decoder, HDTV works fine, but DVD playback in VMC is jerky. With the Cyberlink PowerDVD decoder 7, the video is not as jerky but is still a little bit. Also, I cannot use the Cyberlink Audio decoder. With the audio decoder selected, on starting DVD playback VMC crashes and gives an error report. With the NVIDIA PureVideo decoder, the video playback is flawless. However, the sound is out of sync and the audio settings will not keep the SPDIF output I select. Everytime I open VMC it reverts back to 2-ch mode in the decoder control panel. All in all, if I could get the Microsoft decoder to playback DVDs without being jerky, that would be ideal. But if I must, another decoder would be fine. Any suggestions?     - Widescreen Configuration Problem I installed the Hauppauge 1800 tuner card with no problem and ran my DirecTV HD signal from my DVR into the card's S-video input.     - Help w/ windows media center crash and windows media player 11 cra Hi, I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit. I am trying to add my xbox 360 as an extender with no success because WMC keeps crashing. I have User Account Control and Windows Firewall turned off during the process. After entering the access code, I click some options and then click next and it should start connecting at that point. However, the loading circle appears and eventually WMC crashes and restarts. There's no error message. It just freeze and crashes. I decided to instead enable media sharing thru Windows Media Player 11. However, when I click on Media Sharing, the program freezes. No loading circle, just a frozen window. If I try to click on it, Windows beeps. There is no error message and I have to open task manager to End the program (which is not responding.) My guess is that these two problems are related. Any ideas on how to fix? I am sure it is not a firewall issue because I turned off the firewall and still encountered these errorrs.     - Caan't get into Safe Mode I am getting the following error msg when trying to start my Windows XP Media Center PC. I am unable to get into safe mode or to the system recovery console, can someone please advise as to how to get to the safe mode...pressing F8 is not doing anything at all and I do not have the OS CD to get into the recovery console. The OS was pre-installed on my PC when I bought it. This started after I increased the page size in the control panel and rebooted. I need to login in safe mode and undo the changes but can't get into safe mode at all. PLEASE HELP. The error msg I am getting is: Windows cannot create a temporary profile directory.     - Wheres my sky channel? Ive recently set up a media center computer using a hauppauge hvr 1100 that has free to air digital TV channels. These channels come through the ariel which then goes through my sky box through a RF composite cable and into my TV tuner card.     - OK to change CPU with OEM XP MCE 2005? Hello All: I have a homebuilt pc with MCE2005 OEM and would like to upgrade the CPU. I don't want to buy the CPU if an OEM version does not permit the change. I read in another post that you can change the CPU with Vista OEM but don't know if a CPU change would invalidate my XP MCE 2005 license. The current motherboard & bios support the new CPU so I have no hardware problem. Since originally installing the O.S. I have installed 4 more hard drives and a second DVD drive.     - Windows Media Player Using WMP 11.0 with Media Center Edition I find that playing MP3's from my Hard Drive freezes the computer to the point that it must be turned off manually at the tower. I'm guessing that the program freezes at the same point, usually the 3rd song in a sequence. Using Real Player seems to do the same thing.     - Importing video into Windows Movie Maker I'm having problems inporting video clips into movie maker from 'my video' which show as 'mpeg' files, taken on a Sony handycam. Initially I had an error saying that the correct codec was required. I then disabled all the filters but still cannot import the video clips as I now get a message saying 'undefinable error'. My invoice says "Microsoft Windows XP Media Centre Edition 2005, English" I ran a dxdiag and I got "Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_qfe.070227-2300)" Windows splash screen at start-up just says XP (not Pro or MCE) General tab of System Folder says Media Centre Edition Version 2002 Service pack 2. I do have a Media Centre shortcut on my desk top and the version under the settings tab tells me its Edition 2005 Version 5.1.2715 (xpsp(wmbla).051215-1116) Update Rollup 2.     - Media Center keeps closing due to a problem Hey gang, I have been getting messages, even without Media Center open, that the " Windows Media Update has stopped working ". When I choose to check online for a solution, I do not get any feedback. So I thought I would open Media Center, to see if I could see something there in the options that might clue me in. After opening Media Center and starting to navigate through it, it closes immediately, due to a problem. It does this as soon as I start clicking on things within Media Center, just won't stay open. I tried a google search, and about all I saw on repairing Media Center, was running sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt. I tried this, and it ran and did not find any damaged files. Any ideas, on what I might could do to repair this? I really don't use Media Center, but it is annoying me more than anything, that it does not work, at this point. My PC is a Dell Dimension E-520 with Vista Ultimate 32 bit edition, and a Dell oem AverMedia M779 Hybrid tuner card. See full hardware specs below. It has been running fine since July 07, apart from some localised issues with the Guide which have been resolved since December. So far, and without success, I have: 1) Checked physical connection of the tuner card through to the TV antennae point. Everything is fine and working. Device Manager indicates everything is okay. 2) Restore failed, as previous restore point had been corrupted and not fixed. 3) Un-installed the last relevant update (Cumulative Update for Media Center for Windows Vista KB947172)... no change. 4) Turned-off firewall, re-installed update, switched firewall back on.... no change. 5) Uninstalled AverMedia drivers then reinstalled. No change 6) And as a last resort I have now Edited registry using regedit (and after backup) and found this key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Media Center\Service\Video\Tuners\{TunerID} Deleted the tuners subkeys. Checked Device Manager and removed the tv card drivers then restarted PC. Upon restarting reinstalled the tv card drivers. I took note of the tuners registered at the above key and made sure my tuners re-appeared under TunerID. Suggestions read in this and other forums include: 1) replace tuner card... pointless if working correctly (tested in another pc) 2) Backup, re-format hdd and re-install Vista do not answer the original problem. There should be no need for this after a simple Windows update - surely? Maybe I am wrong, but it occurs to me that if this latest Microsoft Cummulative update appeared to have generated a lot of cries for help globally, and it appears not directed at any particular hardware configuration, and specifically any brand of tuner card, then the problem must lie with the software including this latest update of changes made to the registry as a result of it..... I also have a brand new Dell Inspiron 1520 notebook pc with Vista Home Premium & a Dell oem USB tuner. I have not downloaded the update to this until I have fixed the Desktop PC and so far it continues to work correctly. At this point I do not wish to risk stuffing around with having 2 pcs not working correctly. In the meantime, I shall continue my search. as their must be an answer. Microsoft' s web-site has not yielded any glimmer of hope just yet. May be someone from Dell or the community has experienced this and knows what the fix is.     - Digital signal Ok, so this is somewhat of a followup to a post I put up a week or so in regards to dual digital tuner cards. Assuming anyone who is buying a new tuner card basically from this point on is considering the migration to digital-only next February, is anyone considering anything special in regards to tuner cards? Here's a bit about my setup, and maybe those of you who have put some thought into this can toss me some ideas. I've got a Visio 37" LCD in my home office, which is hooked up to my VMC through VGA. I get cable direct from the wall, which is split off and goes to my VMC PC (single Analog tuner card) and also to my TV RF input so I can get around the single-program record/view limitation of a single tuner card. When I bypass the VMC box and go direct to my TV, I can pick up HD programming for all the network channels (NBC, ABC, FOX, CBS, etc). However, when I attempted to configure a borrowed digital tuner card (it was dual tuner analog/digital), it wasn't picking up any digital programming. This has me a bit concerned, in that I don't want to find myself SOL next February. I have a self-built VMC box, so it's not OEM to a manufacturer. I'm pretty flexible on what I can add, though I am somewhat PCI limited. Of course, I'd prefer to upgrade to a PCIe tuner rather than stick with PCI. Anyone got any thoughts on how I should proceed? Ideally I'd love to get HD and Digital, but I know that VMC has HD limitations. I do, however, want to continue to use the VMC guide and interface, and not a third-party app to watch tv. Thanks all!     - unable to access safe mode Hi. An friend tried to install service pack 3 on an emachine. During install, the computer locked up and the only way to turn off the machine was by unplugging it. After reboot, the machine would not enter windows or windows safe mode. My question is... Is there a way to access safe mode or system restore through the windows install disk or a system disk. Hello all,

I have a windows Vista PC using Windows Media Center. The DVR works great
on every show EXCEPT SportsCenter. I get an error that the IR is not
responding. ESPN will record if I have Windows Media Center open and on the
ESPN channel. Media center records every other show just fine including
changing the channel automatically. Only get the IR error on sportscenter.

Any ideas?
