    - Vista 64-bit Media Center doesn't recognize FIOS TV STB remote Just got the HP media center PC and connected the IR receiver/blaster to it and connected existing Verizon FIOS TV Motorola QIP 2500-2 STB to it via s-video and RCA audio cables. Trying to configure for TV. Problem I continue to experience is the Windows Media Center wont' recognize the Verizon FIOS TV remote control. The IR receiver seems to work as it accurately senses the MCE remote to launch apps, etc. But during the setup step where asked to send button presses from the Verizon remote to the IR receiver for it to "learn" my remote...can't get it to recognize it and it gets stuck in "IR Learning" mode.     - A question on extenders I am building a high in vista media center... When I had my house built, all media outlets (ie. cable, satellite, antenna) also have two ethernet jacks, so my house is hard wired wth gigabit ethernet. Most extenders seem to be wireless. 1) Do they make an extender that is designed to be hardwired? Is there an advantage to that? Where would I find information on them? 2) On the wireless extenders, does that essentially mean you could take a TV out to the deck, use a wireless extender, and watch timer (not wired connection except electric)? 3) Is there a downside to wireless extenders?     - Blue Ray as interna drive I am building a high end vista media center... I would like blue ray; I have seen they not make blue ray playes that can be installed internal to a PC (not sure if they record). I presume that I could install a blue ray play in the vitsa MCE computer, and thus play blue ray on the TV. Is that correct? Is there a better way to do blue ray?     - Suggested improvements for Media Center (Vista) I have recently built a Vista Home Premium system primarily for Media Center. I have ripped ~600 CD's and overall I am pretty happy with Media Center but there certainly is room for improvement. I would like to see is the ability to display artists from albums tagged as Soundtrack or Various Artists. For example if I go into Media Center and display my music by artist none of the artists from these CD's is displayed. But if I click on an artist and it brings up an option to display albums or songs if I select songs you can see songs that are from soundtracks for example (assuming that artist is on said album). I realize this could greatly expand the artist list if you have numerous compilation albums but it would make it easier to access this type of information. My biggest complaint is there is no way, that I can see, to manage playlists with Media Center. I would like to easily add tracks to playlists while they are playing in Media Center and that doesn't appear to be possible. Also it's not easy to delete tracks and their associated files while playing them in Media Center. I must drill down to the album and the track before I can delete the track. It would be nice if there was an easy way to delete the track or add it to a playlist while the track is playing. Tag: desktop background Tag: 184048

    - RECORDING QUESTION... I have noticed that many people record TV shows. They are then uploaded to the web or the newsgroups or even the bit torrent sites. The shows look great and what I have seen is that they are almost always maybe 99% of them Xvid or Dvix format. Does anyone know how this is done? Can this be done in Vista Media Center? I thought that VMCE only recorded in the dreaded dvr-ms format. If I am wrong can anyone show me how to record in Xvid or Dvix via VMCE.     - blue background to desktop icons I have had this occur twice: Suddenly for no apparent reason a blue coloured box appears behind the names of the desktop icons and the letters turn to black. I have read all the solutions posted in the past - but none of them worked. Finally I right clicked on the desktop and went into the desktop tag. Then I went into the drop arrow for the colours - it was blue. I clicked on "other" and moved the arrow up to the very top, i.e. "no colour" and all the icons reverted to the previous display; i.e. no coloured box and white letters for the names of the respective sortcuts.     - Does not Detect Cable Hello, I know this has been asked a dozen times before so I will point out the following: My driver is up to date, I do have an MPEG-1/2/4 support for analog and 2 for digital, and I have every codec known to man, I use CCCP. I am running a Toshiba Satlite U305-s107, dual core, Vista Home Premium, two gigs of ram, and my tuner card is AVer Media- AverTV Hubrid NanoExpress (HC82 ATSC). So, it says that I only have an antenna signal, but all I have is a cable plugged in. I have spent the past two hours messing around with WMC trying to get it to understand that I want it to go cable and it refuses to detect the cable connection.     - No Video or pictures in new Media Center I just bought a new computer and am attempting to configure Media Center. I went through the set-up procedures for "Pictures & Video", the folders are displayed but none of the pictures or videos in them. I can view one video (*.wmv).     - How can I play music by folder? I find the playlist feature EXTREMELY annoying. Nearly everyone with music has it sorted by folders/artist/genre and I'd like to simply play one folder or another without having to go in and create a playlist for it every time. If I go into 'Settings' I can add other locations that the system will search for recorded TV , how do I tell it to search for files on the other maxhine? I have this plugged into my PC's tuner card using the AV Receiver's RCA plugs (yellow, red, white). What options in the Windows Media Center do I use to get the TV working?     - XMRadio in Vista Media Center....does not play I am really at my wit's end with this. I have Vista Ultimate and a Linksys DMA2200. I am unable to play the XMRadio link within Media Center. It loads properly but there is no activation of the Media Player toolbar at the botton. I have a second computer at work running the same setup and it works fine. I used to be able to have XM palying but I needed to reformat the HD and reinstall everything. Now I have reinstalled everything three times and there is no solution available. I have contacted Dell, Microsoft, XMRadio, and Linksys. It is like the keystone cops with fingers pointing all directions. There needs to be some type of control installed within Media Center and is not. The XMRadio link works great in Internet Explorer and also on the sidebar within a gadget.     - Will not let me delete a select few videos that I've downloaded! Hi, There are seven files that I've downloaded (videos) that will not play, so I want to delete them. When I right click on these specific files, delete is not in the list of options as it always is. So I highlight the file and go to file>delete just to get an ERROR message stating, "The following files could not be deleted. They may be in use by another application or are currently being downloaded to" Though I know for certain that the files are neither in use nor being downloaded!     - How do I ???? 1- Stop watching a folder and remove it from my Video Library? The Problem IS: I have added several network folders to my Video Library collection in Vista MCE (Home Premium), and when these network resources are NOT available, It takes VMCE an extreamly longtime to access the video library collection. I have already STOPPED watching these network folders and they no longer show as being watched, but the folders still appear in the Library collection, when those network resources ARE available. And when they are NOT available it just slows the process down of openning the library. 2- How do I remove folders from my Video Library Collection? without deleting them from my system... I have several folders that are NOT even being watched (they never were being watched)... For example: C:\my TV Shows\CSI, where the watched folder IS "CSI" and the shared resource IS "my TV Shows"... The extra folder that shows up IS "C:\" which contains only program video demos used for the programs on my computer. 3- How do I keep the "window" sizing? I open a window (any window) and resize it to my liking, but Vista doesn't remember the sizing change next time I open this window. It will always be at the original default size (small)... How can I force it to remember the sizing change? In Win XP it was simple just hold the <shift> key when closing the window and the new size was remembered until changed next... 4- How do I Force recorded TV shows to be saved with filenames such as "series Name, Episode Name, ch #, network name, etc... Under WinXP MCE I could use a program called "MCE 2005 Customizer" to do this, but it doesn't work under Vista and the program writer is nlonger supportting it... Once it is set, I don't need to change it... So, if there's a registry setting that could be changed to cause this, I will try it... It seems like all the info is there in the Mega Tag of the TV show because it shows the Series Name and Episode Name in the Vidoe clip thumbnail itself, but not as the filename.... my Thanks to anyone who responds...     - Still no thumbnails in recordedTV I have a new install (recent rebuild) of Vista x64 Ultimate and do not get thumbnails for recorded TV. I have tried all the suggestions in the other threads and more. Since the rebuild all the previously recorded and new TV does not show thumbanils in Media centre UI. I do not, and have never had Nero 7 installed. I have tried all the registry fixes suggested here and on the wider internet. I've tried the REGSVR32 SHMEDIA.DLL and agree with user Barb Bowman, that Windows reports the specified module cannot be found (just for kicks I tabbed through the entire system32 folder at the promt and it didn't auto suggest SHMEDIA.DLL.) Also a system wide search for this file returns nothing. The thumbnails appear in Explorer and WMP fine What on earth is happening, I'm pretty good with Windows normally (I had to crack open bcdedit last week) but this has me stumped!     - Xbox Not Connected in Media Center Extender I've had my xbox 360 linked to my computer for a while now and it's worked fine. I turned on media center through my 360 one day and it froze at the loading screen. I checked my media center extender settings on my computer and it says my xbox is not connected. Can't seem to figure out why. Is there another post someone can refer me to or help me troubleshoot what is keeping my xbox from connecting to my computer? I've Uninstalled MC extender along with .net framework 1.1 etc. Reinstalled, still can't connect to my xbox even when setting up a new connection. Extender is not blocked by my firewall and the proper ports have been opened. Just ran into this similar problem when I installed XP SP3 and had to manually intall a missing hotfix that was keeping media center extender from being installed and working properly.     - Restoration I have tried several times to use the restoration process but it doesn't do it. The message I get is "Restoration Incomplete. Select another restore point and try again".     - Null device driver Im having a problem installing Null device which is in the non-plug and play section of the device manager. I uninstalled it because it was not starting up, thinking i could just reboot and scan for new hardware but that doesnt seem to be working.     - Applications running on XP with SP3 Several applications including all of the Office 2003 suite do not leave memory when shutdown. Some applications will not restart until they are killed in the task manager. Firefox used to do it, but the latest version has stopped the problem. However Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 does, as does Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. IE has never done this in any of its iterations. This also happened in XP SP2 so upgrading to SP3 did not help. If I start and shutdown one of the offending apps a number of times all of the copies remain in memory and really slow things down. This happened after a series of upgrades were carried out automatically, but i cannot determine which sequence of upgrades started the problem.
