When I ran SFC on a computer running Windows XP Media center Edition, I got
prompted to insert Windows XP Pro Disc2. There is no such disc for either XP
Media Center or XP Pro. What does it really want?

The actual OEM version of Media Center is a 2 disk set, it is asking for the
second disk.

The second disk. The version for XP was a 2 disk set.

Well presumably then it really means XP Media Center Disc 2, not XP Pro Disc
2. However, I am a tech who works in a busy shop, and I have never seen a
2-disc set. Dell computers running XP Media Center came with one disc as far
as I know.

I've noticed the same thing, but OEM vendors do what they want as far as the
disks they supply. If you purchase Media Center from Newegg or such, you
will get a 2 disk set.

Additionally, are you sure it's not asking for XP Pro service pack 2 disk?
Many have been confused by that, when doing an install from the actual OEM
disks, it asks for disk 2, then XP Pro service pack 2 disk (which is
actually disk 1).

I can't be sure because it didn't say that. It asked for "Windows XP
Professional Disc2."
