Hi All - I am having a peculiar challenge setting up MCE with my 360. I am
running 2 media centre pc's (one laptop and one desktop) on the same network
as the xbox 360. The pc's are both wireless but the xbox is wired to a
netgear rangemax router.

Both pc's can see the xbox (with sharing on) and the pc's can see each other
fine. The xbox was able to connect adn run media centre from the laptop
(which is not what I wanted) but not the desktop. I have succesfully deleted
the laptop from the xbox computer list, and switched it off, but the xbox
will now not recognise the desktop on the network and hence Media center on
the desktop cannot find nor add the extender.

Any hints or suggestions much appreciated

Brenden

Can you describe your network topology, and any firewalls (especially any
third-party ones) that you might have installed on your computer.

Unfortunately, just because Windows Media Connect is working, is no
guarantee that an Extender session will work, because they use two different
methods of connecting to the host computer.

Hi Gary - Thanks for the quick response. I have the following:
Router - netgear rangemax WNR854t
Laptop - hp DV2000 running vista and windows firewall - Built in wireless
adapter
Desktop - HP media centre (1188) with a netgear wireless adapter (WN311B)
running windows firewall with Media centre exenter ticked in the exceptions
Xbox 360 is wired to the router

The only thing I can think of is that the desktop and router may be running
faster than the xbox and laptop

I trust this is what you meant by topology - if not I am sure I can dig up
the relevent numbers

Thanks

Brenden

check to see if you have the current firmware for both the router
and the WN311B. there are notes on Netgear's support site indicating
that you need to update the adapter as well as the router.

A-HA ! Thanks Barb. Firmware upgraded and installed and all working fine
