Here's another method besides Doug & Nigel's. It works for me on
Windows XP Pro.
Open Windows Explorer
Click "Search"
Click "Change preferences" in the Search panel
The first line in the new panel should say "Without an animated screen
character"
Click that and the dog is gone.
Note: If that first line already says "WithOUT an animated screen
character" than it should already be off :-( ... but in that case try
toggling it a time or two.
