I think I'm in the right area for this.

I have just recently snagged a couple boxes of old hardware and computer
discs from a friend who switched right on to Vista. Paid a couple hundred
dollars for all the stuff, and one of the things that caught my eye was MCE
2005 disks. There is a booklet, with a key, and 2 discs. I went through the
booklet, seemed to be a generic, for all XP system discs... and it said
nothing about the disk count. There have been a few websites that have used
the number 3 or 2...so...which is it. I have another box to open, but he's a
pretty organized guy. I see only 2 discs, labeled as disc 1 and disc 2. Is
this all I need if I plan to reinstall XP with these? If I have to buy them
I will, but I've already dumped money into this and would hate to send away
for the 2005 cds and find there are only 2...so... Any ideas?

The correct number of CDs for Windows Media Center 2005 is two without
Rollup 2, Three if Rollup 2 is included.

Rollup 2 is available at Windows Update.

The Windows XP part of the Media Center 2005 is Window XP Professional 2002
without some of the network features. The Version for Media Center is found
after install, in About Media Center.

Very cool. Thank you. Next quesiton I'll post here anyway and post
elsewhere later if needed...
You said it's XP Pro with limite dnetwork features, proabably stuff I won't
use...but... I have a good copy of XP Pro SP2c, slipstreamed with asome
other updates and programs I use. This one I bought not too long ago.
before this purchase, but is there a way to 'slipstream' all that MCE 2005
stuff? I know it'll take a DVD which i have no problem with. But is it
possible? or should I just trial and error it?

You do not want to slipstream Windows XP Pro SP2 with Windows Media Center
2005, If Rollup 2 is installed, you have SP2. That is what Rollup 2 is,
Service Pack 2 for Windows XP pro and the latest features for Media Center
2005.

To do so will break Windows Media Center 2005.

The main network features that Media Center does not have is Network
Domains. The Work Groups and file sharing work just fine.
