What I am wondering is, if I want to connect another device (mobile phone, dive computer, etc) via IR do I need to get another IR receiver?     - Vista Media Centre Pause behaviour change in SP1 Hi, I recently updated my Vista Ultimate installation to SP1 and it seems that the Pause functionality has changed. It was always the case before that the pause function would only pause for a limited time period while watching live TV and I assumed this was because of the limited size of the pause buffer on the disk. However this limited time period did not apply to pauses while watching recorded TV, but now after aplying SP1 when I pause a recorded program after a while it restarts. I regressed the SP using System Restore and the original behaviour is back. Is there any way of having SP1 without this annoyance ? It is a major PITA to have a program resume playing just because a phone call takes longer to answer, and I can see no reason why this should have changed in SP1 ?     - WMP11 on XP won't find files in 'My Music' folder Hi I'm using windows media player 11, on XP Home. wmp won't recognize my mp3s, I've tried deleting the database file in Local Settings and re-scanning but it just won't find anything- or at least won't add the files to my library. I've recently installed the full AVG Internet Security product, that's the only thing different I can think of.     - seeing Network shares on Xbox 360 Extender RUnning VIsta Ultimate Media Center, with an Xbox 360 Extender. I have a newtork attached storeage that shares media files. I have them "watched" unter the media cetner steetigns, but I can only see "shares" that are on the actual Media Center when accessign the Library setting from the Xbox360 console.     - Xbox 360 Extender won't play audio I have a VIsta Ultimate Media Center, with my Xbox 360 as an extender. Form MOST of my video files (mpg) files will play on the Extender, but I get no audio. If I play them on the PC within Media Center, they play fine (video and audio). I am at a loss as to why this is happening. Any pointers?     - can't view HD (ATSC) Channels in XP Media Center I'm having a problem viewing my local HD channels in Media Center. They load fine in setup (signals are also good), but when I try to change to them in the guide, up pops a black screen and then this error: Application Failure. A Critical Media Center process has failed. Please restart your computer and try again. If the problem persists contact your hardware manufacturer for further assisstance. I have contacted them and have not received much help at all. They tell me it has to be a Media Center problem. Nice. I'm running a TV Wonder 650 Combo with the latest drivers and Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Service Pack 3 and .NET Framework 2.0. Although my system properties say it's Media Center Edition 2002 which I don't understand either...lol.     - Needing to reformat but have not disk when I bought the PC Hello I bought my Ei-System 304 at the end of 2006 from Currys. It's an Intel Pentium 4, XP Media Center Edition. I did not receive an OS disk with the PC when I purchased it, only a microsoft works 8.5 disk. I have read through the set up guide for the OS but cannot find any information on how to reformat my PC.     - xp media center my wife bought me a barebones system with an oem copy of windows xp media center 2005. when i try to upgrade windows media center from version 10 to version 11 i keep getting a message that i must have xp media center 2005 installed on my computer. my question is how come the disks that my wife bought me can say windows media center 2005 but when i go and look at the system properties it says 2002. is this a glitch or did i get a disk that is printed with 2005 but is actually a copy of 2002?     - remote control stopped working after updates I couldn't find the answer to this, so forgive me if I'm duplicating a question... I'm running windows media center 2005 on an hp home theater pc. I recently upgraded to the rollup 2 and windows media player version 11, and my remote controls have stopped working. I tried installing hotfix KB912024, but that didn't help. I tried resetting the remote, but that didn't help. I tried reprogramming my universal remote, which worked before, but that didn't help. The IR keyboard still works, but none of the remote controls do. Can someone point me torwards a solution to this?     - Windows Messenger error message in media center I now get the error message "Messenger Failure - You must install Windows Messenger etc" every time I start Media Center.     - Security Center Problem I recently uninstalled my antivirus/firewall (Defender Pro) and the uninstall reported it as finished successfully. Unfortunaly, the Security Center still reports both as present. When I turned on the windows firewall the security center reported that I have two active firewalls. And when I tried to load another antivirus program the antivirus install manager reported that another antivirus was present. I have searched my system and have not been able to find a file or reference to the Defender Pro files anywhere. I contacted the Defender Pro support people and they were not able to resolve my problem. So I am stuck and do not know how to remove whatever reference the security center is holding onto.     - Black Screen instead of menu when stopping recording When I stop a recorded tv session (using the stop button on the remote) I used to get a menu where I could resume, start over, delete etc.. Now I just get a black screen. I can workaround by selecting the recorded tv button, but when I navigate back to the recording, it has lost all history of where it is at. Real drag to have to FF to the previous spot, especially with a 5 hour recording of the olympics. Any suggestions?     - OT - Ghost 2003 "Read Sector Failure" I know this isn't XP or even MS, but Symantec is next to useless, especially for an 5-year-old product, and there is very little traffic in the symantec.support. ... newsgroup. I know there are Ghost 2003 users who hang out here, so here's hoping ... I had been happily using Ghost 2003 on XP Pro sp3 to make images to a partition on a secondary internal drive. I bought a WD 500 GB USB external drive. It works fine with other apps, including Acronis TI. But Ghost 2003 crashes immediately after starting PC-DOS with Error Number 29004 "Read sector failure, result = 1, drive = 2, sectors 6291519 to 6291521." There are 3 physical hard drives in the system - 2 inside the case and 1 USB. I *think* the problem is that the USB drivers that came with Ghost 2003 can't access the newer USB drive. However, Ghost crashes now even if I direct the images back to the internal drive. The first time I tried to do this, Ghost took me to the "Add Ghost Disk Identification" wizard. So I think that now Ghost is failing when it tries to access one of its "identified" disks. How can I "un-identify" the USB drive as far as Ghost is concerned? (Or even better, can anyone suggest how I tell Ghost to use better USB drivers?) I've run chkdsk /F on all drives (and all partitions); I've uninstalled and reinstalled Ghost 2003.     - usb problems I am currently running Windows XP Media Center 2005 and am having problems with my usb devices. My printer and MP3 player were working fine up to recently, now my system says something is plugged in but does not recognize anything. I have tried the supposed "HOT FIX", unplugging & plugging in every device, and the suspending power fixes to no avail. Can anybody help me out?     - Unable to launch any windows programs I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2004. After removing "AntiSpyware 2008" Windows Media Player, Display, and other applications would not load. A message box appears "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in The Folders Options control panel." After an automatic update, I will be in the middle of running an application and get a dumb msg asking if I want to reboot now or reboot later. In reality, I want to disable automatic reboots until I get finished with the task at hand, and I strongly resent this stupid intrusion interrupting and complicating my work, I want to turn it off in order to retain control over a computer that is rightfully mine and not Microsoft's!!     - Vista Media Center and Sky TV (Composite Input) Hi all, I'm new to the forum (plenty of great information around!) but have been searching for help on the above topic for over a week to no avail. I currently have a PlusTV Hybrid PCI (DVB-T 210SE) tuner card linked up to my Sky Box via a composite connection. This works perfectly in Hyper Media Center by simply changing the source to composite. My problem is I can't find any way to have VMC look at the composite input signal. The wizard only seems to detect analogue input through the RF cable, and the picture quality is poor at best. Any help on setting up alternate input sources is vista media center is much appreciated.     - Problems with Sony PCVA IR6U IR Blaster/ receiver I have Sony VAIO PCV-RZ-40CG system with Sony's PCVA IR6U IR Blaster. Since yesterday, one port of this 2 port blaster has stopped working. For some reason, only one port is sending IR commands to the STB. I have 2 STBs with 2 IR bugs. One port of the blaster seems to have stopped working. I tried switing the bugs (to diff ports on the blaster) and I have confirmed that STB connected to defective port, is not able to change channels any more. I don't see LEDs lighting up when I change channels on IR bug connected to defective port. I have tried re-calibrating the STB and setting up TV signal again. When its time to calibrate STB connected to defective port, the IR blaster simply does not recognize the STB remote at all. Two questions. 1) How to I fix it? 2) Where do I buy a new IR blaster kit? I tried Best Buy, Fry's today and they have no idea what it means and/or where to find one. Thanks in advance for any help I can get.     - XP Media Center Recently I had to do a repair on my computer due to several issues. Since doing the repair, I have been unable to get the Media Center to operate properly. Up until this weekend, I could get it to allow me to watch dvds, and then it would generate a crash report. An attempt to launch JIT debugger with debugger with following command resulted in an error code of 0x2(2) corbg.exe !a0x7b8 I now am not even able to get the Media Center to open. After a number of virus and trojana attacked my system, I decided to repair it using the CD that came with the system.     - Dual Tuners I have been using MCE for 4 years now. For 2 years I have been getting my HD signal OTA using an Hauppauge HVR 950. Everything works great. I record to one of the hard drives in my system. My system: Shuttle 750gb total memory (3 hard drives total) 2g of ram 2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX Trouble is, I want to record 2 shows at one time. recover the OS from my recovery CD.

Unfortunately, the recovery CD does not have the OS in it. I have the
genuine key with me. Is there any way through which I can get the
installation CD ? Kindly advice.

You could try contacting Toshiba for the CD or failing that this company
apparently have recovery CDs for many makes/models of PC including Toshiba.
