Windows Media Player 11 will not work

I purchased new computer with vista and windows media player 11. It worked
fine until I received notice of update which I installed. now wmp 11 does
not work. I downloaded wmp 11 from microsoft website but when I try to
install I get message that a newer version is already on my computer and I
cannot install or repair older version. I cannot figure out how to uninstall
wmp version on my computer so that I can reinstall downloaded version. any
help welcomed! Thanks!
