I recently did a destructive recovery on my HP desktop. In essence, it is an
update from MCE 2004 to 2005. Everything is getting back to normal except
for one thing: Welcome screen just says "welcome". It boots just fine.
Before I go and do something stupid, how do I get into the Welcome screen
setup? What I want back is the Welcome screen that shows the administrator
icon and name. I know I can reconfigure in UserAccounts but not sure if this
will actually change the welcome screen. Any advice?

Do you have more than one user account setup?
Does any account require a password?

Bob, Before recovery I only had one user account as Administrator and never
set up a guest account. Before my recovery I did require a password. Since
the recovery, the Welcome screen just says "Welcome", shows no users and does
not require a password. I have tried the 'ctrl + alt' and pressing delete
twice at the Welcome screen and nothing happens. It just continues with the
boot and takes me to my desktop. Remote Desktop Connection will require a
password and, apparently, the Welcome screen and how it is set up affects my
XBox (original--not 360) extender connection (having trouble with that). I'm
taking one problem at a time. Prior to this recovery and before I configured
a password, the Welcome screen showed the user accounts.

With a single user account non-password account you are seeing normal
behavior.
If you add an additional user account or a password to a single account you
will see the log on screen when you reboot or turn on your computer.
