    - Web Enrollment Certificate Hello: Once we request and install Certificate (IPSec certificate) via web enrollment on to the computer account, I know that we can see the installed Certificate via MMC Snap-in (Certificates snap-in). I am wondering where actually the certificate is stored physically (either in the hard-drive/registry)? I did a search for the certificate name (example: PC1) and I could not find it in the registry or in the hard-drive.     - Validation required after driver upgrade? I recently put together a brand new pc with a brand new copy of MC 2005. It was loaded only once and on this new pc. Recently I updated my drivers for the 790i chipset with the latest nVidia driver and updated my SB X-Fi Gamer audio card drivers as well. All went well and I logged off for the night. Next day I log back in and I receive notification that major hardware changes had occurred and I needed to revalidate my OS copy. So I went to revalidate it and was then told I had exceeded my allowed instances to load the OS. After going through the lengthy phone call and saying that there were hardware upgrades done when in fact nothing with the OS or hardware had been changed, I was able to continue as normal. I also observed that all my restoration points had been wiped so there was no way to rollback the pc. Is this another feature with MC 2005? Is this to be expected after I upgrade drivers, to be forced to revalidate each time? OS's used to allow three installations before requiring the phonecall with MS. Did this change?     - Tweak MCE I installed Tweak MCE primarily for the 30 sec. skip forward/reverse function and understand MS does not support that utility so cannot ask them the question and hoping someone on this forum will know. I'm not seeing any new buttons on the MCE player controls other than what was on the original group.     - Media Computer - Basic, Basic Questions I'm hoping someone can point me to an FAQ or other site which covers the very basic questions below, but here goes. I have a large CD collection, which I now play manually using an old Sony CD player , an old Sony amplifier, and a set of hard wired speakers. I also have my TV wired into the amplifier so I can use the sound system to play audio from my TV and DVD player. I can digitize my CD collection without any difficulty/. Now here's what I'd like (having seen this at friends' houses). 1. The ability to organize the digitized collection on a hard drive 2. The ability to use my TV screen to display and select the various CD's and tracks 3, A connection linking the media computer to the amplifier. What terminals are needed on the computer, the TV or the amplifier? 4. A remote, with the ability to select, and control the computer holding the collection. Does this come with the computer? I assume a new "media" computer with Vista Home Premium will take care of 1. and 2. Is this correct? I see computes being advertised as Media computers with prices anywhere from $400 to $2,000.     - Error 13 & tuner failures After almost 3 years of MCE, I've finally been hit by Error 13 when downloading the guide, combined with tuner failures when waking from standby (although the tuner is fine the rest of the time). Thanks to Aaron Stebner, I've renamed the EPG and ehome folders, run the MCE repair and reset applications, reinstalled my tuner drivers and re-registered both the guide dll and the time sync app. I still seem to be having problems. The only other thing I can think of is that I've just moved over to Avast virus checker from AVG. I don't know if anyone else has had problems with this?     - Windows Media Center configuration with Verizon FIOS TV I previously had Verizon FIOS Internet working fine with Media Center (Vista 64) after adding FIOS TV Windows Media Center is unable to detect TV signal.     - Show recordable but a commercial triggers stoppage. Could someone tell the broadcasters to be more careful when they run a commercial such as the recent 'Get Smart Movie', that triggers a show without the do not copy flag set to stop recording because the commercial apparently inadvertently has a do not copy flag. Do they really not want me to record the commercial for the movie. I get 40 minutes into my recorded movie when the commercial comes on, and before the commercial even ends the TV show stops recording. They are giving DRM a bad name and the programs, such as Windows Vista Media Center and the company Microsoft a bad rap because Microsoft is faithfully following the DRM guidelines. I know, I know, Media Center will blindly "honor the copy restrictions set by the broadcaster and/or content provider. There's nothing to be done about it." But I will be doing something about it. If these mistakes happen too often, I won't be bothering with getting a Media Center Extender and buying furture versions of Media Center, and I will look for alternates. I will add however that these mistakes have been infrequent and a more recent TV recording with that DRM infected commercial did not have the do not copy flag embedded in it. It seems to record my shows fine even if I am not watching. If I close media center and restart it the problem is gone. I have had no other changes in my computer other than normal antivirus updates. I have read about some fixes for a restricted content problem but they were years ago and prior to sp3. I do not want to un-install sp3.     - microsoft picture it i know my program is out of date , i had it since 2002 and nerver had a problem with it, the last time i used it was in march of this year. it is a program where we can make labels from hundreds of pictures example high resolutions photos where it has a sub titles like animals , plants , wine and beer. my problem is i can open the program and click on a picture that i want to make a label with and it tells me what cd that picture is in the program came with five cds , so when i click on the picture, example it might be in cd #5 it than tells me to insert #5 into my computer, i do that , but than i get a response that says (application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way) and than you have to click ok, when i do that i lose the entire program, and have to start all over again and the same thing happens again. if you could help me i would appreciate it has my husband and i make wine and beer and have made some nice labels over the years, and nerver had a problem before , and the customer service rep had told me that they don't sell or make this microsoft picture it program anymore so its important to me to get it running again. thank you hope you can help marilyn Tag: Vista Media Center issue Tag: 183426

    - Problems with ATI Theater Pro 550 Tuner in Vista Ultimate x64 Has anyone experienced any problems lately running an ATI Theater Pro 550 tuner with Vista Ultimate x64? Mine had been running fine for over a year and one day last week it stopped working. I tried upgrading to the latest ATI drivers and SP1 but no go after that either. I noticed that it stopped working around the time an automatic update was applied and I tried rolling that back with no luck. I reinstalled the OS and it recognized the board and installed the drivers, but I could not get Media Center to recognize the tuner. Iâ??ve since installed an VisionTek HD 650 in the pc with SP1 and it is working fine, but the Powercolor board does not show up in Device Manager. I donâ??t think there is anything physically wrong with the old tuner card, but do not have another pc with PCI-e slots to test it out. Since Iâ??ve purchased the new tuner, Iâ??d like to get the old one working and have two tuners working. Side note: I also have an HDHomeRun unit, which has worked flawlessly from day one. While working on the above issue, the HDHR power supply went bad â?? great timing. I contacted their customer support and they shipped a new one out that day. Not bad customer service.     - importing vcr files on dvd into media player/media centre Analogue vcr tapes have been saved onto dvd disc then imported into media player. The VOB files have been changed to mpeg files and played in media centre. Each file is labeled as a video clip and plays only for a few seconds in media centre although I believe all the information is present for a full replay.     - Windows Media Center Won't Work I purchased a computer a few months ago with Windows Vista Home Premiun edition. I have never been successful in getting the Windows Media Center to work. My ISP is MSN Dial-Up and I have no problems connecting to my ISP through its program - also have no problem accessing the internet from Internet Explorer. However, when I try to set up my internet connection with the Media Center using the Connection they show (MSN) and entering my password and then using the "Test" procedure to verify Media Center can connect to the internet I get the message "Specific Dial-Up Connection Cannot Be Found". I have also tried using Media Center when I am connected to the Intenet thru my ISP and nothing works where a Media Connection to the internet is needed. When I create accounts using the Adminstrative Tools I am forced to insert a password for new accounts however when I use Control Panel and Select User Accounts I am not required to enter a password.     - Updating from to Sp1 to SP2 - not as simple as it should be have turned to you for help as one of my friends has recommended you guys. I have searched Xp fourm but I seem to have a slightly different problem. I have also passed the Windows XP exam and still cant fix the problem. Here it is: - Brought my home PC into work to update the OS to at least SP2. - Proceeded to Windows Update web page - 78 updates required, one of each was SP2, great so far. - All updates installed, bar the one I wanted, SP2 - Went back into the site, clicked on "Express", gave details on SP2, size 75MB etc and installed it, restarted PC, still have SP1 installed. -Went back into update, SP2 still available to dl, however, the size is now 0MB, tried it again, still the same, 0MB, installation will not work - I also downloaded the image of SP2, burnt it on CD, tried it, files extract, wizard appears, I click next, wizard disappers, nothing happens, tried this a few times, wizard keeps disappering. Thats it really, I tried renaming Software Distribution folder ,as per other posts but still, no joy. I am at my end, I would tear out my hair, if I had any.     - Low Sound Volume on HP Pavillion a1250n model ! I don't know if it's the computer or the XP. It was purchased this way by an elderly relative who didn't know any better. The warranty ended some time ago. The sound volume has always been very low. I've gone into all the properties of the control panel for sound, turned up all volume levels on the audio settings, all to know avail. I've also messed around with the wires and plugs in the back of the computer itself. Trust me, I've done everything; tutorials also. Can anyone point me to a site, or anyone who has the reason for this? It's really irritating when you have to put your head up to the monitor screen to hear what's coming out of the speakers.     - Need to repair my LAN connection every few minutes The problem started about a week ago. Turned the PC on, try to check my email and it basically timed out and got an error message that it could not connect with my ISP mail server. Called my ISP (Time Warner and I have the digital package with TV, phone and cable internet...Roadrunner) and they said the connection looks good on their end. We tried a few things, reboot the modem, uninstall and reinstall both network cards and it worked for a few minutes and then nothing. The only way I can get a connection to check my email or brouse is to go into the Control Panel, then into Network Connections, highlight my LAN connection icon and click "repair this connection". It goes through the repair and I have a connection for about 2 minutes. I also tried a system recovery back to a known date...a date when I new my PC was OK....no change. I tried downloading an updated driver for the LAN card...still no change. I bought some support from HP (my PC manufacturer) and after much time and attempted fixes, he told me I would have to do a full system recovery.     - Record Comcast HD Channels in Media Center I have Comcast Cable and an HD TV Tuner. If I have the cable in to my video card, can I get/watch/record the HD channels (channel 100+) through the Media Center and have the updated channel guides? It runs through boot to the Welcome screen and just as the main screen loads before the icons appear, the PC reboots. I can hear the drive spin down just before that.     - History grows by thousands of entrys in only a few days. My history in Media Center often grows to over 5,000 entries (I then delete the history). I have recordings spread over 3, 4 or 5 hard drives, depending on if I feel like plugging in more external hard drives. But even when I only have my 2 internal hard drives and one external hard drive of 1TB in size, I can get a couple of thousand entries in less than a weeks time. I suspect that Media Center sees the external hard drive come online and decides these are recordings that it should add to the history list. I never shut off the external hard drive, and always leave it plugged into the USB port. I hibernate the computer often (sleeping has never worked, with any o/s, on this 4 year old computer). When 2TB sized hard drives come out, perhaps next year, I will be able to replace my 2 internal hard drives and forget about the external hard drive. Then I suspect this history anomaly will not occur. Or I might buy a new computer that supports more than 2 sata drives, and also supports eSata, which my 1TB external drive does support.     - Embedded in comercial, do not copy flag? I have noticed on occasion that some TV that I record stops being recorded during a commercial. By my recollection every time the commercial is of a newly released or soon to be released movie. Just today I was recording a TV show and after 20 minutes it stopped being recorded because of a do not copy flag. But a few minutes later Media Center started recording the show again, coincidently after reviewing the Media Center history and then deleting the history. I reviewed the first recording and noticed that the recording stopped during a commercial of the new Get Smart Movie.     - Media Center Black Recorded TV was working ok on new LCD TV for 1 week. But am now getting dreaded black screen after clicking Windows Media Center. Was ending show when screen went black.     - XP MCE Disk 2 does nothing and therefore won't install I bought xp mce from frys.com I wanted to put it on my work pc instead of vista mce that it came with. I am defintly not a vist fan and all the other computers on my work network run XP anyway. After completing installation of disk one ( with a few glitches ) put in disk 2. Disk 2 does nothing except let me look at the files that are on it and won't install anything. The first folder shown is "CMPNENTS" all by itself and the files will only extract not install.     - Guide doesn't work - "No information available" Hi, I have vista ultimate running hauppauge 350 card. It worked flowless for months till my hard drive fried last week and I had to rebuild. After the rebuild, I am unable to get the guide. When I click on guide, it shows "no information available" on all channels. I even manually downloaded the guide by going to settings menu and I tried many times but no luck. Am I missing something here? It sees all channels fine, it records fine.     - How to watch AVI files on media player Hi, I have windows media player 10 and have had to download an AVI player recently.     - Problems with Explorer I have 2 problems which I think are related. I can't access my disk drive to write data. I can burn a music cd, but not data. If I put in a blank disk, a dialog box pops up, and I can tell it to open the files, but can't do anything further. If I try to access the blank cd from "my computer" it won't recognize that there's a disk in the drive. If I open Sonic Record, I can write data to the disk that way. Just not through windows explorer. Also, on Internet Explorer, I can't get the Flash Player to work. I have downloaded it several times. However, if I use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer it works fine. I'm able to get around these problems somewhat, but it's a pain! Any ideas? Tag: Vista Media Center issue Tag: 183301

    - Blue Album Art Running Vista Ultimate. I had problems with my music library so I restored it from a backup and deleted and rebuilt the Media Player database under my profile. The cover art displays fine in media player 11 but I still see som plain blue icons when I browse the albums under media center. If I login using a different profile the album covers display correctly. Does anyone know of any other files to delete to rebuild the icons under media center.     - MCE Doesn't Recognize WMP after SP3 installation I recently installed SP3 and had not experienced any sort of problem with it, until I tried to play music in Media Center. When I tried to enter it I got a message reading "Audio Error: To play music in Media Center, install Windows Media Player 9 or repair your current installation" (same thing when trying to access the visualization option). However, I already have WMP10 installed and reinstalling it did nothing to remedy the problem. I have MCE 2002 with SP2, though I also have CCCP installed (it operates in MCE fine with videos and before SP3 with audio files as well). Both MCE and WMP work fine outside of this problem.     - Need support for freeview capable tuner card A while back I bought a cheap TV tuner and set it up with media centre. Needless to say it didn't work very well so I returned it and invested in a better one. Now whenever I do anything in MC I get the message "Application Failure. A critical windows media process has failed. Please restart the computer and try again. If the problem persists contact yor hardware manufacturer for assistance." Clicking ok makes this go away and MC continues as normal - except when you click Set Up TV Signal. I am asked whether I want to continue, and if I click yes windows infroms me that Media Centre has stopped working, crashes to the desktop and restarts MC. The new tuner works fine with the software it was bundled with, but I was hoping to use MC to watch TV. Because I get the message anywhere in MC, I suspect that it is MC that isn't working properly. OK I have a strange one,

Today I turn on my PC start the Media Center and it firsts starts a program
Viewing image and shows a screen shot, then starts the media center. Then the
software is not downloading my TV guide, just says 0% this must have been
some time as there are no TV listings at all.

Changing the channels on the TV part is slow and it keeps telling me its
crashed, but still keeps working.
Has anything changed in Media Center for Vista recently, and is anyone else
having these issues?
