I have a Gateway and recently reformatted my hard drive and after
"successfully" setting up my television connection on Media Center, it will
not display television. My cable is plugged in so I'm not sure what to do.

Please help!
Thanks.

Did you reinstall MCE manually or us a Gateway recovery disc of some sort?

If manually setup, did you reinstall a DVD decoder? If you used some type of
recovery disc, it should have done this as part of the reinstall, but it's
possible that you have to manually install also. (Ignore if you are using
Vista w/ Media Center, the decoder is included in the OS)

Also, check your tuner and video card driver (make sure they are MCE
drivers, not just standard Windows), occasionally problem there can result
in this error message.

If itâ??s a Gateway Iâ??m guessing you have MCE 2005, did you install the DVD
decoder?

I recently saw this problem. I did everything I could think of. Updated the
drivers, installed a stock dvd viewing program (powerDVD 5), reinstalled my
OS 3x. I could watch the DVDs through powerDVD and through media player, just
not media center. Nothing would view in the "TV Live" or "Play DVD" portions.

I downloaded the verifying program to check the compatibility of the decoder
with media center. It showed no conflict. I went to powerDVD's site
(cyberlink) and downloaded a trial of the new version (version 8). I
installed it and media center now works perfectly fine. I uninstalled the
trial version, retained the decoder and thus continue to use MCE.

I had the same video decoder error. I downloaded a trial version of powerdvd
and then my media center worked fine. I uninstalled the trial version and
then it didn't work. How do I "retain" my decoder like you did?

Thank you.

Simple, you need to buy a decoder, either the PowerDVD or nVidia or whatever
(the nVidia one is $20). The trials will only work for a limited period of
time.
