    - Xbox360 & Media Center Hello all, I have an HP Pavilion laptop with Media Center and an Xbox360. Previously, I was able to readily, easily, swiftly connect the two machines via Media Center. Now, after a recent repair that required a hard drive reformat and a hard reset of my wireless router, my PC cannot "find" the "extender" on my network...even though I can see it when I pull up the full network map. Xbox360/Microsoft's call center has been useless. I turn to you and your expertise. Please, if you can, help. The Xbox360 is connected via ethernet, the PC is wirelessly connected. Both machines are visible on the network. Resets do not help. My wife's PC which I did NOT set up suddenly appeared on the 360 as the machine from which to connect/stream.     - EDITING/Create An Association In The Folders Options Control Panel First of all, would like to extend my 'thanks' to all those whom have assisted me in the past with 'minor' problems that, are 'major' to those like myself whom are currently learning on our own, the vast functionalities of home PC! Though frustrating at times, the fun in learning from others, is the reward. Thank You, All! Currently I am having problems EDITING anything in MY PICTURES/DOCUMENTS folders. When I point and right click, EDIT, a window appears with a 'small Red Ball enclosing a White 'X' on left/center side, with.."This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folders Options control panel." This is new to me as I've just recently began hobby with Photos, though this same warning that pops up when attempting to EDIT documents, such as a Resume. Would appreciate any help.     - ATI Driver Issue Solved I have seen in various places people having problems with ATI Catalyst driver installations which resulted in MOM.... and CLI... errors when the computer started up. After trying multiple clean XP installs I figured out that the problem was that it needs BOTH .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0 installed for the driver to work correctly.     - CANNOT VIEW PICTURES IN MEDIA CENTER MEDIA CENTER WILL NOT DISPLAY PICTURES FROM DVD OR FROM HARD DISK ANYMORE . ALSO RECENTLY HAD PROBLEM WITH A WINDOWS UPDATE THAT WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE RELEASED, SO I WAS TOLD BY MY IT GUY WHO HAD TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT GOT STUCK IN A LOOP WHEN I TURNED IT ON.     - localhost does not resolve to 127.0.0.1 i am having weird results when trying to access local web server from browser when I type http://localhost - it hangs forever. 127.0.0.1 works fine. I checked my hosts file and 127.0.0.1 localhost is there. I tried to ping localhost and it does not seem to resolve to 127.0.0.1 - this is what I got. Any ideas?     - Cannot start Media Center Extender Service - Please Help! I just recently upgraded my desktop from Windows XP Media Center Edition to Vista Ultimate. Before the upgrade, I was able to access the media center via the Media Center function on my XBox 360 (both the desktop and the 360 are physically wired to my network). Since the upgrade, however, I have not been able to set up my 360 in vista ultimate as an extender. When I try to set up, I get a generic error message. I have gone into the event viewer and notice that the error was caused by the 'Windows Media Center Extender Service' not running. I've gone into the services area, and tried to start the Windows Media Center Extender Service, but keep getting an error message saying that it cannot start. I double clicked on this service and viewed the dependent services. One of the services, PnP-X IP Bus Enumerator is NOT running. When I go to try to start this service, the system tells me that it started and then immediately stopped. Any suggestions on why the desktop would keep stopping the PnP-X IP Bus Enumerator service? I'm assuming that this is my problem, but nothing seems to work. (I've verified that all of the dependent services for this service are running). Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!     - WMC disappeared... I use my computer on a daily basis for gaming and movies. I sat down today and pulled the dvd I was watching yesterday out and put another one in, but autoplay didn't work. So I searched for Windows Media Center, no results. I check autoplay settings and where WMC used to be for DVD's is now a blank program icon with no words next to it. I tried recovering with the disk but it was caught up on compatibility check. Is there anywhere I can go to to just get WMC back without having to run recovery?     - Tuner Not Available After Recording Simultaneous HDTV/Analog Progr If Windows Media Center finishes recording an HDTV program while simultaneously recording an Analog program, the Analog recording fails. Media Center is then no longer able to display Live TV or record subsequent programs using either HDTV or Analog signals. It requires a PC reboot to restore functionality in Media Center. This problem does NOT occur if Media Center finishes recording an Analog program while simultaneously recording an HDTV program. The result is that any time Media Center is scheduled to record an HDTV program that ends before a simultaneously recorded Analog programs ends, all subsequent programs fail to record. This problem occurs when either manually recording programs or if Media Center is automatically recording scheduled programs. I am using a VisionTek/ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo USB tuner with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit. Steps to reproduce: 1. In Windows Media Center, start recording an HDTV program. 2. Start recording an Analog program. 3. Stop recording the HDTV program. 4. Stop playing the HDTV channel. 4. Windows Media Center displays the error "Recording Failed To Start: Windows Media Center has encountered an error and is unable to record <name of Analog program>. Please restart the computer and then reschedule the recording." 5. Select any Analog channel in Live TV. 6. Windows Media Center displays the error "Tuner Not Available: The tuner is currently in use by another application or is not working. Please close all other applications, restart Windows Media Center, and then try again." 7. Select any HDTV channel in Live TV. 8. Windows Media Center displays the error "No TV Signal: There is currently no TV signal detected for this channel. The channel may be temporarily off-the-air, or you may need to adjust or reconnect your TV antenna." 5. Reboot PC. 6. Viewing Live TV and recording shows works normally in Windows Media Center for both Analog and HDTV signals (until the initial condition described above occurs again). This problem can be reliably reproduced every time the above steps are followed. The tuner's "ATI Unified AVStream Driver" listed in Device Manager reports it is working normally at all times. I am using an antenna for the HDTV signal and a cable signal for Analog. The cable signal is connected to the TV Wonder using S-Video from a cable box. Hardware Configuration: EVGA e-GeForce 8600 GTS video card EVGA nForce 680i SLI motherboard Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor 2GB RAM (two 1GB Patriot memory sticks) VisionTek ATI TV Wonder 650 tuner Software Configuration: Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit Windows Media Center 6.0.6001.18000 (longhorn_rtm.080118-1840) ATI Catalyst 8.3 nVidia Forceware video driver 169.25 nVidia nForce chipset driver 15.08 I've pursued this issue with both ATI/AMD and VisionTek. ATI says the problem is with Windows Media Center. VisionTek has been unresponsive. This problem has persisted through several tuner driver upgrades and Vista updates.     - Protecting a single file/folder Hello, Just a general question here... but it's one I have searched all through the help files and cannot find the answer to. I need to know if there is any way to protect: 1.) password protect a single folder on the C drive of a computer? 2.) Protect the C drive from a user deleting/editing files on it. Basically, my problem is, I have one machine which is only allowed this one user account, but I must share it with another user. The other user tends to get "brilliant" and start playing around on the machine changing settings, etc. I have certain files/programs on the machine that I don't want all messed up from someone playing around... as innocent as it may be. I figure if I can at least protect my own folders (and maybe the C drive) that will help tremendously. Anyway, any advice on how to handle this would be great. Thanks!     - One windows session and one RDP connection Hi Guys, I know how to have multiple rdp sessions but can't seem to figure out something. Every time i connect to the pc via rdp from network it logs off the user logged in currently on the machine and then allows rdp to connect.     - WMC on Vista but can't see video on my admin profile but other admin profile works fine I have attached an earlier thread (see below) regarding this problem but I have since discovered that although sometimes I can get WMC or Windows Media Player to work (view video not just hear audio) on my profile (set as Admin) it works fine when I switch to my wife's profile (also Admin) without rebooting, however if I switch back to my profile neither WMC nor WMP will show video but as soon as I go to her profile both work fine. Any help is greatly appreciated I just tried that and I still have the same problem. I did notice that I also can't view .wmv files in Windows Media Player. Could it be a codec issue?     - Certain Channel's TV Show Guide COMPLETELY wrong Recently I noticed that the TV show guide listings are wrong but only for certain channels. For example, in my DirecTV listing for NY channel 231 (Food Network) is just plain wrong. Not off by a couple of hours, the entire days' guide is wrong. I didn't fully research how many channels this also occured with but there were at least 2 other channel near 231 thta had the same problem. I tried downloading the guide a few times. I tried using the DirecTV guide for USA not just for NY. The problem persists. This gets annoying since the program info doesn't match what show I'm recording.     - Can i fix files with XP Professional? I have an error of a missing file or corrupt one in system32\hal.dll I can not boot at all, even in safe mode, but do have the options of boot menus but they dont work. I have found ways to fix my problem without using my system recovery disk and erasing everything but they all require the XP disk which doesn't come with our computers. So,ã??since it is just a file, can i buy a XP pro disk to boot fix the problem? If i can at least boot to get my files off i can do a restore.     - Vista MC Error Code 13 Hi all! Been having a few problems with my Media centre guide since I upgraded my TV card. Since upgrading and scanning for new channels it has been unable to download the guide data, before it would just sit on the same screen with the progress bar and not move.     - Live-TV on Media Center PC via Xbox360 extender stops when buffer I recently tried to watch TV with my Media Center Edition 2005 PC and PCI-TV tuner card, controlled via my Xbox360 as extender. It shows live TV alright, but it bluntly stops when the buffer is full.     - Can't import video from Windows MediaCenter recorded TV When I try to import video from the Windows Media Center recorded TV folder I get an error message like this: [K:\recorded tv\Breakfast.dvr-ms could not be imported.     - Antenna Signal: Computer vs. TV Does anyone have any idea why my TV can receive a digital channel but my computer cannot? It worked before, but now does not. Many of the digital channels still come in fine, but the local CBS and CW affiliates are all reading red in the signal strength setup screen.     - Welcome screen change I recently did a destructive recovery on my HP desktop. In essence, it is an update from MCE 2004 to 2005. Everything is getting back to normal except for one thing: Welcome screen just says "welcome". It boots just fine. Before I go and do something stupid, how do I get into the Welcome screen setup?     - Connection problem from Xbox 360 to Windows Premium PC I have a problem with connecting an Xbox 360 to a Windows Vista Premium PC I can get it connected but it takes several attempts before it connects First few attempts it comes up with the following error, The xbox 360 has experienced a failure and has been disconnected from the media centre based pc. You then have the option to try again, and normally after 3 or 4 attempts it will connect and works great. Its just this small issue with not immediately connecting . The PC and the Xbox are connected Via a Linksys Router, and my PC based Firewalls are off.     - VHS and MC - PLease Help Hello All I am hoping someone can help. I have purchased a cheap VHS machine with the intention of copying my old VHS Tapes to our media centre. As the VHS technology is becomming obsolete, I see it fitting to transfer our wedding etc to the media centre. The VHS machine only has an atenna output and input. The output goes to our media centre and the input comes from our aerial. We are able to watch television but cannot play back any of our old VHS videos. When we play any VHS tape it plays but is very fuzzy. If I remove the aerial from the input on the VHS Machine, it becomes very clear for a short period then throws up a blue screen message saying that it is Restricted Content. After searching the net, I have found no solution to this. Infact I have found that it is a copyright restriction. Copyright? How odd, it is my media centre, my VHS tapes containing if anything, my own "copywritten" content. My wedding has nothing to do with Microsoft or VHS for that matter and I believe that I have the right to protect my content and convert it into a format that I may view on my media centre. I have a lot of pictures I don't want in Media Center, and likewise several audio files not to be played (ringtones).     - Replacement for Sony MPEG Realtime Encoder Card Hi: I have a Sony VGC-RA716G desktop (MCE2005) and Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor says that my installed Sony MPEG Realtime Encoder Board is not compatible with Vista. Sony has apparently elected not to put out a Vista driver for this board. A previous posting sometime back indicated that if I upgraded to Vista I would lose my TV capabilities etc. Is there a recommended replacement PCI TV Tuner card or whatever I would need to replace my current MPEG Encoder Board that would allow me to upgrade to Vista?     - Ctl-F shortcut brings up error message about active directory I'm programming a Philips Pronto to run Media Center. I'm using the shortcuts published by Microsoft and learning the shortcuts from an IR keyboard into the Pronto. All seems to be working well, except when I try to skip forward. The shortcut is Control-F, which is also Find. in many programs. You'd expect when in Media Center, the shortcut would perform the Media Center action, but it does not. A window opens in the middle of Media Center running maximized saying the active directory server is not available.     - Vista Ultimate Media Center Freezes Every Time Hi. I have Vista Ultimate Media Center connected to a Sony Vaio 200 Disc VGP-XL1B DVD Changer. When I go into view the DVD selection Media Center wants to bring in the discs. I let it and it will start and bring in a few and then freeze every single time. During this process it is downloading the DVD information and covers. This is frustrating because this is the sole purpose for this machine. This machine has 2GB of RAM with an AMD 64 3200+ Processor. I have over 200GB of free disK space and the DVD changer is connected via firewire. Media center has also locked up when importing music/MP3s. I have also installed SP1 to see if that has corrected my issue. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated because I have spent countless $$$ to setup this DVD library solution. Also Media center is the only thing that locks.     - Multiple Monitors - settings won't apply! Please help Trying to set up the multiple monitors feature, i go into display settings where my second monitor (#2) appears but shaded out, when i click on it and check the box that says extend my windows desktop onto this monitor and then click apply it just undoes itself, i.e. when i click apply [or ok] the box just unchecks itself and the monitor picture becomes shaded out again. Why is this? this seems to be the only way to activate this feature. This has happened on at least 2 other people i knows computers n i have no idea why it won't just apply the setting, any help would be much appreciated.     - Screen Fuzzing uncontrollablily. Please help! Hi guys, Well today i went out a bought a new pc game controller for my notebook, then i plug in the USB port, and play some games, then the computer froze up, so i restart it. Then when i start it up again, the Screen keep on fuzzing!. My silblings guess is the controller and that it had a virus, but im not sure, very thing else seems to work fine (still have all my files/settings/etc) but the screen it look as if its moving side ways back anf forth, real fast that i cant even seen anything. Using an Acer laptop with Media Center version of XP and a Viewsonic DLP
Projector(vga cable), I have set the laptop to presentation mode and get the
same image on the laptop screen and the projected image. When I try to play
a DVD, I get the frame of Media Player (with controls) on the projector and
the movie plays on the laptop screen. Projecting photos or PowerPoint works
fine. I am just not getting the DVD playing on the projector. I have also
tried reseting the Display Settings in Control Panel. Any suggestions?
