My Windows Media Center was successfully recording my television shows for
several months. Recently it stopped recording and the message I got was
"TUNER NOT AVAILABLE The tuner is currently in use by another application or
is not working. Please close all other applications, restart Windows Media
Center, and try again."

I have done this several times and the same message reappears. I don't know
if another program is interferring with the Media Center.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

Thank you for replying. I have a ViXS Pure TV-U 4899 (NTSC/ATSC Combo). I
have also discovered that my system has intermittently failed to record a
scheduled show infrequently.

I have the same tuner card. Every time I try to run the MC tv setup MC
either shuts down completely or I get the message "TV tuner unavailable". I
dont know why this is happening. I'm running vista home premium.

I downloaded Windows Vista SP1 and then MC seemed to work. But now as I go
thru the tv setup process, the computer crashes and I get a message saying
the crash was du to the video driver/card (Nvidia GeForce 7500 LE). I have
the latest driver downloaded for that, so I'm not sure why that is happening.
As for the hotfix you suggested, from the looks of it it should help,
however after I downl;oad and try to run it it says it's not for my system.
Not sure what to do from here, but I appreciate the help.

The message you received "Video card/driver problem" normally is referring
to the TV tuner/Video capture card and not to your Graphic/video output
card. Get the latest Vista drivers for your tuner from the tuner card
manufacturers website. Do not install one received using Winupdate.

Well, oddly enough, I did try that yesterday. I found the Visx TV tuner card
driver hard to locate. My computer identified the error message today as
being generated from a problem with my nvidia video card. Yesterday I had
updated that driver so after writing my last post I reverted back to my older
nvidia driver and it seemed to fix the problem. I think most of the problem
I was experiencing was due to the fact that I had never downloaded and
installed SP1 for vista home premium. Kinda strange that it wouldn't just
update automatically, but I guess now I know that that doesnt always happen.
Thanks for your help and you can be sure I'll be back if this happens again.
