    - Removing an Unwanted/Strange Folder from a WMC Video Library listing This is a second try at a problem/post I put-up a few days ago. I had some names and facts wrong so I think it is best to restart from scratch... I have setup WMC on a Vista box. Everything works fine except when I scroll to the Video Library section the first folder is named after the name of my c: drive "MediaCenter1" . This folder contains strange sub folders (16 of them) with titles like:- Create Disk -- with subfolders - Components, Filters, SFXPlugins, Sonic Resources, Stte, Styles en-US -- with one subfolder Intro -- (Some kind of short demo video of people in a room) MIX -- with one subfolder Intro -- X02 Aspectratio4X3 (billiards demo). there are 16 in all. When I go to my C:\ directory I find .wmv with titles like these in the "C:\Windows\ehome" folder (along with many .dll's etc.). Clearly WMC is including this folder in my Video Library. I cannot seem to get rid of it. I tried including the folder C:\ in the files to watch and then removed them from the files to watch with no success. Put simply. How do you remove a folder from the WMC video library listing. Is there some Registry entry? .... the Video folder (where I have a few sub folders each containing a number of .avi files) I have a problem. The first sub-folder listed (which happens to have the name I gave the computer itself, "Media_Center_1", has 16 short video files (.WMV's) that I cannot locate. WMC will not let me delete these files. More annoying I cannot locate, remove, or even hide that folder. It's a bit of an eye sore amongst my own folders. It's not on my WMC list of folders to watch for changes etc. Any suggestions how I locate/remove this folder from being listed. The other Vista box does not display this folder. I am really puzzled! OK It looks like I got things a little mixed up in names. "Media_Center_1" is the name I have for the problem WMC computer. "MediaCenter1" is the name I have for the C: drive. This is the offending folder that appears in the WMC Video library (see below). This is the folder I wish to remove.     - S-video with vista and IR blasters I have a media center PC and am pleased with it apart from it's inability to connect to my STB. I have 2 tuner cards, both with S-video inputs and have the microsoft IR receiver and emitters.     - DVB-T TV tuner card for MCE I recently had to format my HDD and reinstall the operating system. I have made no hardware changes and the TV tuner PCI card shows up in the device manager and I can view four (all BBC) channels through it. However, before the reinstall, I could view all the channels available on Freeview but now a scan shows no channels found. All the connections are good, as I can view TV using the PCI card's bundled software but when I select Live TV in Media Centre nothing happens. Any ideas where I have gone wrong please?     - Desktop Icons (Shortcuts) Disappeared All of my desktop icons have disappeared. I can find them in 'My Documents' but I cannot move them to my desktop. If I try I get the message 'Cannot Move....Source and distribution file names are the same'. If I try to shortcut another page (i.e. hotmail homepage), it will go directly to 'My Documents'....it does not appear on my desktop. My question is.....how do I get my 'shortcut' icons back on my screen? I'm sure there is probably a simple way of doing this, but I am not very computer-literate....Please keep that in mind when reply.     - Windows Installer Dialog Box Hello. I just installed a new HP printer on my computer and I am now seeing a "Windows Installer" dialogue box pop up on the screen when I start up the computer. I have nothing to install that I know of. I have to keep hitting "cancel" till the box goes away.     - What happened? I can no longer use my Radio Tuner After SP1, I find that I can no longer use my Radio Tuner.     - Connection Failure -- 360 and Media Center I'm running Vista Home Premium SP1, and am trying to connect my XBOX 360. Setup seemed to go fine, but each time I try to connect, I receive the following error message: "The Xbox 360 has experienced a failure and was disconnected from the Media Center based PC. Had some problems with USB in course of solving it (with help) removed SP 2 and reinstalled XP Home. USB fine. When try to install SP 2, it copies files OK then hangs whenever it checks for 'neccessary disk space'. In Task Manager, when this is happening the processor is wiorking at 100% constantly. In case it is relevant, Windows Explorer does not show status bar any more by default - I have to show it every time I start up, sometimes when using Windows Explorer, a 'preparing to install' box shows up briefly and then disappears with no apparent effect.     - digital signature does not validate I'm fighting a pesky error, that I believe is in XP. System is XP Pro SP3 with all updates. Office 2003 suite is currently installed. I have a retail boxed CD of Office 2007 Home and Student. The first thing that appears when it is loaded is a message: "D:\HomeStudentr.WW\OSETUP.DLL digital signature does not validate or is not present." Click OK and nothing more is done/seen. There are many reports of this problem in the Office 2007 sites, most replies focus on the CD. It is NOT the CD. It works fine on another computer, also I get the same error with this computer and another CD of Office 2007 HSE. It is not the CD reader either. Following some suggestions, I used WinZip to extract the files and put them on a clean USB HDD. Same thing happens there, too. It is definitely a software problem in XP or whatever install package Office is using. If the software in the system is corrupted somehow, what is the fix? Might it be a missing root Certificate Authority? Miss-behavior by a 3rd party firewall (it is using CA)? Many would appreciate a real solution to this problem.     - Accidently disabled display adapter and can't see, safe mode wont Call me stupid but I was trying to find a way to change the resolution on a machine that was infected (I had just done a clean install of XP Home Edition and cleaned it). The resolution was 16 bit and the properties tab was greyed out so I could not add a new driver. In any event, I went in and disabled the VGA adapter thinking it would help. Low and behold, I reboot and find out that the monitor does not work. I change monitors and nothing is better. I try and reboot in safe mode and it is still dark. I change the VGA mode on bios but still no good results. How can I enable the VGA adapter without using my screen given that it is dark? Is there anything I can do??     - How can you set up two TV signal configurations Hi, I have a normal TV aerial and a PayTV cable plugged into my PC. If I want to watch the FTA HD channels, I go into WMC and set the TV signal configuration for the DVB-T antenna settings. If I want to close that and watch my PayTV, I need to re-configure the TV Signal setup to my Cable settings. Is there a way that I can have both configurations saved to select from rather than always having to re-configure the TV Signal settings whenever I want to swap sources?     - Vista MCE Needs Help or Restting I have installed all the updates that are available. Now when I play a file in my Video Library, I can't control it as expected. If it is paused, and another application has focus, it will resume in the background. When it is stopped and Done, it is shown as a thumbnail at the bottom of the screen with a stop button. MCE will automatically start the thumbnail if another application has focus. Giving focus back to MCE results in the thumbnail restarting from the beginning. How can I stop this behavour?     - hdmi no audio playing a dvd hiya, got vista ultimate 32bit edition installed with sp1. On my motherboard i have an hdmi connection i use to connect my media center up to my tv. The only problem there is, audio works when watching tv and recorded shows, even xvid's work. The only thing that doesnt work is when i play dvd's, the picture comes up fine, but theres no audio. When i use power dvd8 to play the same dvd, itll work fine, good picture and audio. So what im asking is, if there is anyway to change the codec windows uses to be able to use the one power dvd is using, so i can get audio from within the media center. I had a look in the media center setup and also the audio properties, but nothing i tried worked, so is there settings for media center outside of the program? Any suggestions would be most welcome.     - Intermittant Sound Stutter in HD I have an problem where the sound pauses for about a half a second at random times during HD playback only. The video is not effected nor is the pause repeatable if replayed. There doesn't appear to be a cpu utilization issue during these episodes and plenty of memory is available. The problem does not occur during SD playback and not specific a particular sound mode. I am running Vista SP1 on a Asus P5LD2 mb with a Intel Core 2 1.86GHz CPU with 2Gb of RAM and a nVidia 8600GT video card with 256Mb of memory.     - Min / Max / Close / not working with 512mb video memory Problem: If I am watching live tv, I can move my mouse to the top of screen and get the bar that lets me min/max/close ONCE. If I then minimize the live tv so I can use windows side of the computer and then re-click on media center, it comes back up but I am unable to ever get that top tool bar back (to min/max/close) and media center starts behaving strangely. Here's the kicker. This happened with an xfx 8500 512mb video card, so then I tried a 256mb PNY and it DID NOT happen. Then I tried a 8600gt 512MB PNY and IT DID happen . So it appears that there is a problem with MCE 2005 and 512mb video cards of at least the nvidia brand ? Anyone have any tweeks to fix this so I can keep using my 512mb video card?     - Trouble Connecting Xbox360 to media Last night I setup my Xbox360 on my home network to connect to my pc and share media. i have XP Media Center Edition 2005 and it has all the updates. I went to the MS site and got my code number and downloaded the extender software on the pc and all that but I am really limited as to what I can see. In Windows Media Player on the pc I see a bunch of videos..but the only thing I can see on the Xbox360 are pictures. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I thought I'd be able to see anything I can see in Media Center on the Xbox but it doesn't appear that way. I also can't see recorded TV which is really what I'd want the most. Anybody? Help.     - Windows XP search companion I am running Windows XP 2002, with service pack 2. I am no longer able to get the search companion, which gives the option to change preferences as to how you want to search. For Example: photos, documents rather than files and folders.     - Guide download keeps stopping I've had a guide download problem for 3-4 weeks now - I wondered if anyone can help? The guide downloads every day, for 3-4 days and then it stops. It shows it is still downloading, reports that the guide is up to date and schedules the next one for a day's time. If I try to do it manually, it says it is up to date, doesn't download it - and the guide stays as it is. There are no errors in the event log, or displayed on the screen. It just says the guide is up to date. The only way I can get it to start downlaoding again is to delete/rename the EPG folder and download afresh. This works, and keeps working for 3-4 days, but then stops again. I've done everything in Aaron's blog - http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/articles/526231.aspx . This includes:- 1. Making sure the clock is synchronised correctly 2. Saying I'm not using the guide, rebooting and then setting it up to use the guide 3. Stopping the EHshed process, renaming the EPG folder and then setting it up again. ( I have done the repeatedly, and also tried doing the same but renaming Ehome) 4. Using the MCE Repair ( http://blogs.msdn.com/peterrosser/archive/2005/10/20/482974.aspx ) and MCEreset applications ( http://www.salloway.org.uk/mediacenter/util/index.htm#config ) , and setting up again. 5. Re-registering the guide DLL I'm using MCE 2005, with DVB-T in the UK, and the guide for Heathfield. This has worked fine for a couple of years and started giving me problems 3-4 weeks ago.     - Disk Management Tool Menu Options Grayed Out OK. I have a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. I installed a Western Digital Protege internal hard drive as a slave. The jumpers are correct, and everything is hooked up properly. The BIOS recognizes that the hard drive is there, but it is not showing up in "My Computer". I have gone into Computer Management, and tried to assign a drive letter using the Disk Management Tool, but, while Computer Management recognizes the hard drive, and says it is "Healthy" and "Active", the options on the right-click menu are all grayed out except for "Delete Partition" and "Help".     - No Desktop Icons, Taskbar, Start, anything PLEASE HELP!!!!! i have windows XP media center edition that came with my HP pavillion desktop my problems started about a month ago when my preset desktop background disappered and all i had was a blue screen. I tried changing it but when i did the background option on was always "disabled". i also got an error message about processing some paramers c576dc9 or something like that and i would just click cancel a few times and all was well. Then a few weeks ago i wanted to use the comp and all of the sudden i kept on receiving error messages from windows data executionn prevention about my internet explorer and as soon as i clicked off the message it woudl give me the option to send an error report and i would say no and the cycle would begin again. Then my blue background vanished and i was left with the active desktop recovery and i would tell the comp to recover my desktop but nothing happened. A few days ago, i logged on and got my original desktop picture back but i had no icons, taskbar, start button etc. I pulled up task mananger and tried to run explorer.exe in the new task bar but nothing happened. Depending on which user i signed in as, i would get an error message about dr.mortem postmortem debugger having to close so i would close. So in the end no matter what user account i log in on i can only see the desktop picture and nothing else. I have tried to start the computer i safe mode, safe mode in networking, and last good configuration. I had minor sucess with the last good configuration-- i got a taskbar with a start button but i could not use the start button. i think that some kind of spyware/adware/malware is what's affecting my comp but i don't know how to scan/remove it seeing as how i can't do anything on my comp. My media center suddenly lost all audio. all my other programs have audio
just not media center. what can i do to fix this. i followed all the
