    - Can't import video from Windows MediaCenter recorded TV When I try to import video from the Windows Media Center recorded TV folder I get an error message like this: [K:\recorded tv\Breakfast.dvr-ms could not be imported. Unspecified error] I can import files with other extensions from the same folder e.g. .mpg, .avi but not .dvr-ms. Why? I know other people can do this but - why can't I? What am I doing wrong?     - Antenna Signal: Computer vs. TV Does anyone have any idea why my TV can receive a digital channel but my computer cannot? It worked before, but now does not. Many of the digital channels still come in fine, but the local CBS and CW affiliates are all reading red in the signal strength setup screen.     - Vista Media Center - RecordedTV Listing Style I have used MediaCenter for XP in the past and though the RecordedTV listings were less sexy, when going through a long list, it's actually a lot easier to use this style than to use the Vista MediaCenter default of large thumbnail images.     - Welcome screen change I recently did a destructive recovery on my HP desktop. In essence, it is an update from MCE 2004 to 2005. Everything is getting back to normal except for one thing: Welcome screen just says "welcome". It boots just fine. Before I go and do something stupid, how do I get into the Welcome screen setup? What I want back is the Welcome screen that shows the administrator icon and name. I know I can reconfigure in UserAccounts but not sure if this will actually change the welcome screen. Any advice?     - hal.dll error. Need XP Media Center Ed disk to fix I have the <windows root>\system32\hal.dll error that will not let me boot at all, including any safemodes. According to Microsoft, i need an XP media center ed. disk to fix the problem, but i need the disk and my computer's mfg will not help. How do i get my computer to boot and fix the files.     - Connection problem from Xbox 360 to Windows Premium PC I have a problem with connecting an Xbox 360 to a Windows Vista Premium PC I can get it connected but it takes several attempts before it connects First few attempts it comes up with the following error, The xbox 360 has experienced a failure and has been disconnected from the media centre based pc. You then have the option to try again, and normally after 3 or 4 attempts it will connect and works great. Its just this small issue with not immediately connecting . The PC and the Xbox are connected Via a Linksys Router, and my PC based Firewalls are off.     - VHS and MC - PLease Help Hello All I am hoping someone can help. I have purchased a cheap VHS machine with the intention of copying my old VHS Tapes to our media centre. As the VHS technology is becomming obsolete, I see it fitting to transfer our wedding etc to the media centre. The VHS machine only has an atenna output and input. The output goes to our media centre and the input comes from our aerial. We are able to watch television but cannot play back any of our old VHS videos. When we play any VHS tape it plays but is very fuzzy. If I remove the aerial from the input on the VHS Machine, it becomes very clear for a short period then throws up a blue screen message saying that it is Restricted Content. After searching the net, I have found no solution to this. Infact I have found that it is a copyright restriction. Copyright? How odd, it is my media centre, my VHS tapes containing if anything, my own "copywritten" content. My wedding has nothing to do with Microsoft or VHS for that matter and I believe that I have the right to protect my content and convert it into a format that I may view on my media centre. Could someone please help me find a solution? Surely if I can get a clean playback signal, I can use the media centre to copy it. It is after all, my content, not VHS or Microsofts. I have a lot of pictures I don't want in Media Center, and likewise several audio files not to be played (ringtones).     - Replacement for Sony MPEG Realtime Encoder Card Hi: I have a Sony VGC-RA716G desktop (MCE2005) and Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor says that my installed Sony MPEG Realtime Encoder Board is not compatible with Vista. Sony has apparently elected not to put out a Vista driver for this board. A previous posting sometime back indicated that if I upgraded to Vista I would lose my TV capabilities etc. Is there a recommended replacement PCI TV Tuner card or whatever I would need to replace my current MPEG Encoder Board that would allow me to upgrade to Vista?     - Ctl-F shortcut brings up error message about active directory I'm programming a Philips Pronto to run Media Center. I'm using the shortcuts published by Microsoft and learning the shortcuts from an IR keyboard into the Pronto. All seems to be working well, except when I try to skip forward. The shortcut is Control-F, which is also Find. in many programs. You'd expect when in Media Center, the shortcut would perform the Media Center action, but it does not. A window opens in the middle of Media Center running maximized saying the active directory server is not available.     - Vista Ultimate Media Center Freezes Every Time Hi. I have Vista Ultimate Media Center connected to a Sony Vaio 200 Disc VGP-XL1B DVD Changer. When I go into view the DVD selection Media Center wants to bring in the discs. I let it and it will start and bring in a few and then freeze every single time. During this process it is downloading the DVD information and covers. This is frustrating because this is the sole purpose for this machine. This machine has 2GB of RAM with an AMD 64 3200+ Processor. I have over 200GB of free disK space and the DVD changer is connected via firewire. Media center has also locked up when importing music/MP3s. I have also installed SP1 to see if that has corrected my issue. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated because I have spent countless $$$ to setup this DVD library solution. Also Media center is the only thing that locks.     - Multiple Monitors - settings won't apply! Please help Trying to set up the multiple monitors feature, i go into display settings where my second monitor (#2) appears but shaded out, when i click on it and check the box that says extend my windows desktop onto this monitor and then click apply it just undoes itself, i.e. when i click apply [or ok] the box just unchecks itself and the monitor picture becomes shaded out again. Why is this? this seems to be the only way to activate this feature.     - Screen Fuzzing uncontrollablily. Please help! Hi guys, Well today i went out a bought a new pc game controller for my notebook, then i plug in the USB port, and play some games, then the computer froze up, so i restart it. Then when i start it up again, the Screen keep on fuzzing!. My silblings guess is the controller and that it had a virus, but im not sure, very thing else seems to work fine (still have all my files/settings/etc) but the screen it look as if its moving side ways back anf forth, real fast that i cant even seen anything.     - can programs recorded using Media Center XP be played on other pc's I have Windows XP Media Center on my HP Computer. Also have DSL service provider. Also have a Linksys Wireless Router. I wish to play programs previously recorded on main computer using Media Center TV on other computers. Is there a way of playing the programs so that they can be transmitted using the Linksys Wireless Router? Or, are there other suggestions on how to play downloaded programs on other computers?     - Media Player I had problems with media player (Windows Vista) when I wasplaying a movie. There was no picture. Sound was okay. So, I deleted the media player and wanted to download a new version. I went to Microsoft site and downloaded wmp11-windowsxp-x86-enu.exe.     - Windows Media Center 2005 -Vista Ultimate--ATI tuner card-just bought vista- I have a directv HD reciever,I have a extender cable for the infared device running into my living room, I run my coaxial cable from my tuner card into a box i purchased at radio shack, then i run another coax cable from the box to my hd reciever- I also have a red/yellow/white cable that plugs in this box,then to the back of my hd reciever- my MCE was working fine until one day, it just stopped changing the channel-everything else worked.I tried deleting the recordings.xml files, I found some MCE fixes that didnt work(they re-registered the dll's etc..)..there was a service that would not stay running- it was either the service launcher or reciever service-this was the main issue i believe- i tried fixing the net framework, i checked permissions on the service itself and still no luck. i reformatted and installed vista 2 times, checked all my drivers and installed- everything is "installed and working as far as hardware"- I cannot believe if this is a software issue that reinstalling did not fix it? I cant lean towards hardware because my infared and tv tuner card are installing and seem to be working. I'm so sick of these problems, i cant believe i have to pay to have something fixed that should work- is MS ever going to come out with a tool that replaces/repairs all media center files so we have half a chance at fixing these things? if anyone has any info i would greatly appreciate it, i'm losing my mind trying to figure this out.. I'm not sure why the services all the sudden became corrupted? DCOM? netframework? vista updates?     - Channel and title caption remains on the screen...how to remove?? Hi all, this just started recently but I have noticed that all TV whether live or recorded has the channel and show title screen constantly displayed on the screen. This used to come on when switching channels but then vanish after a few seconds. Now it seems that it wont leave. I have all of the latest updates and virus signatures so I am sure that there is nothing lacking there. It should be just a simple config change but I cant seem to figure out what would cause this.     - Programs running, but invisible... This happened once with AOL, and now it's my Sony/Ericsson phone suite. I click on the icon to open the program and the program appears on my taskbar, but I can't see it. If I right click on the taskbar and alternate between minimize and maximize, it looks like the program is opening in a window out of view at the bottom of my screen. When this happened with AOL, someone suggested right clicking the taskbar and changing the tiling of the windows. This worked fine, but when I try it for my Sony program, tile vertically and horozontally are greyed out. I've already tried changing my screen resolution and restarting the computer.     - Media Player / Media Center error I just installed Vista Ultimate 64. I have updated everything including service pack 1, but media player still keeps giving me problems. "Windows Media Player has stopped working A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." The problem seems to be the reason media center is giving me trouble when I try to use it: "Windows Media Center has lost its remote connection to media player and needs to be restarted." I have exhausted my troubleshooting skills (admittedly limited) and have not been able to correct it.     - Can't See My Musics in Media Center I've been using XP media center for almost a year now, to play videos and music, but just today for whatever reason, when I try to play my music, I get a message that says "Unable to view music by album/artist/song, (etc.). Either the music does not contain album information, or there is no music in your Media Library. To add music to your Media Library, press More Info on the remote control and then select Add Music." If I try to go and re-add my music folders again, it looks like nothing is happening, it's not even accessing my hard drive. Has this problem ever happened to anyone else? Media Center has been running fine for me all year, that's why I don't understand why this is just happening for me now. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.     - Video Playback Error w/ WMC and 360 Hi all, I am running Vista 64sp1 with a wired gigabit network to 360. WMC was working fine on 360 about a week ago. Now it boots up, I can see the guide and recorded shows, but when I try to watch them I get Video Playback Error: Files needed for video playback are not installed or not working properly. Please restart media center or pc. I am not sure if this happened when I installed sp1 last week or something else caused it. I disabled and reinstalled 360, rebooted pc, etc., to no avail.     - Media center and Xbox 360 Wireless to wired issue Hi and hopefully someone has a solution to my issues. I have a Hp with Vista media center and it is running McAfee and Widows firewalls. The problem is, I originally had my network set up as wireless from my computer to my router and the Xbox 360 was wired to the router. I wanted to increase my connection speed so I wired my computer to the router. My previous setup allowed me to connect to the xbox as an extender without any issues but he minute I changed to a wired connection the media center won't recognize the xbox. It still appears on the network when you look at the full map of network devices. I went through all the programs and made sure that media sharing is active with the xbox. I changed to different ethernet cables, disabled all firewalls, and everything else I could think of to figure out what was wrong. I talked to the support for my router, HP and xbox with no solution. I even called McAfee to have them help. I now refer to you guys and gals for a solution as no one else seems to know what the hell they are talking about and it is really getting upsetting.     - Live TV no Longer loads - Guide Down load fails After many months of WMC working OK., I can no longer open live tV. Clicking on the Icon and nothing happens. When I go back through setup the tuner is recognized and it allows me to select cable. Also the guide will not download and when it fails it gives error code 13.     - 1 channel missing ABC Lost signal for channels 9.1 9.2 which is ABC network in windows media center, but signal works great in avermedia center for those 2 channels what is up with that. Its like 1 channel is being blocked.     - Blue screen after Installing Media Center Previously, I had problems with my computer not shutting down properly and the the "Blue Screen" (BS - hope that is an ok abbreviation) of death. I re-did the whole system. Everything was great; a lot faster too. Then, I installed Media Center. Again, the computer would not shutdown properly and I again have the BS again. I get the error message in the BS mode - DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE. The computer then goes through the whole hard drive and checks it out. When the computer comes up again Microsoft tells me it is caused by NVidia Grahics Driver. I have update the driver and also the Motherboard. I still have the problem and do not know what to do about it. I have another question. I have an ATi HDTV Wonder PCI tuner card. I get it to accept the digital channels, but it does not read in nor ask about the analog channels that come through the cable from Verison's CAT5 cable. Is that normal?     - Guide Does Not Update Hello, I've had years of service from this WMC box without problems but now the guide won't download. I get no error message and when I go to the guide I receive a pop-up that says the guide data is downloading but it never finishes. It has run for days. I can run the browser and connect to different sites so am thinking that the internet connection is OK. I've ru through the config dialog where I put in my zip and then choose a provider.     - Only one Tuner works! I'm setting up my new HP Pavilion Ultimate D4999TPC. This is my second, since the first one I had to return b/c it had all kinds of problems (such as no internet access). It's equipped with dual ATSC-NTSC TV tuner, PVR, FM tuner, REM. One card is Hauppague WinTV HVR-1600 (NTSC/ATSC combo) and the other card is ViXS PureTV-U 48BO (NTSC/ATSC combo). Total of 4 tuners. I have analog cable (coming out of the wall and I use a splitter to connect to the tv tuners). 1st problem: When I do auto config, it either comes back with no tuners found or only one tuner found but detects my analog cable as antenna. 2nd problem: When I do manual config, only the NTSC connector would work on the Hauppauge card and I get nothing on the ViXS card. With the previously returned unit, I was able to get both tuners to work on the Hauppage card, although, sometimes the ATSC tuner would quit and I would have to restart the computer (sometimes 2 or 3 times) and then it would work again. Another issue I have with this new system while the previous system did not have this issue, is when it's recording something, I cannot go to "live tv" even though it's the same channel that it's recording. Conclusion: I'm stuck with only one usable tuner out or 4! The useless tech support tells me I cannot use both tuners on the same card. They say it's impossible, even though that's exactly what I did with the previous system. They want to send me another Hauppauge card to replace the ViXS card (which also has the FM tuner so then I would not have an FM tuner). He said with two seperate Hauppage cards, I would then be able to use 2 tuners. This does not make sense to me. I should be able to usee both tuners on the Hauppauge card as I did before. Oh, one more thing with this system (and not with the previous system), When downloading the Guide, I would keep getting "download incomplete--Code:13" And then eventually, after a bunch of tries, it would finally complete.     - Replacing poor MCE tv signal with external STB signal/feed The Windows Media Center PC that i have obviously has an internal tv card built in. Quite a few people have said it is not reknowned for it's quality. I have a couple of digital tv set top boxes that provide superb quality pictures and sound. In detrimental contrast to that, the digital tv receiver in the Media Center, or pc?, i'm not sure which it's a part of, suffers from interference and picture break up, as well as failing to find channels. It often states that a channel can't be found because the signal is weak. However, i can assure you that the signal at the end of the coax cable going into the pc is not weak and i have tested it the cheapets set top box i could find. The cheapo stb found and displayed every single channel perfectly. In view of the above, i was wondering if i can get the media center to use the 'out' signal on the STB in preference to it's internal tuner card. The connection is via the coax input socket on the back of the pc. I'm confused as to whether, when one connects and sets up the MCE to work with a STB, it uses it's own tv card signal or the STB's signal. If it is the latter then that is perfect as i can just reset the MCE to use the superior STB feed. Therefore, my question is: in such a set up which signal is being used?.
