Hello,
I have built a Vista media Center and I am using an HD Home Run as my OTA
tuner. I have a large amount of video recorded on a Panasonic DVR and I would
like to gain access to this through the Media center. I think the way to do
it is with an analog tuner but wanted to check with some more experienced
guys for a possibly better solution.
Thanks,
Sid.

It should be possible to connect the composite video and left and right
stereo audio output of the DVR to the Video and Audio inputs on the Media
Center tuner card. Or you can use the S-Video if both units have S-Video.

You would need to setup Media Center TV input from a Settop box. You must
have the Microsoft IR remote control transceiver for that to work.

The settop box can be setup as either Satellite or Cable TV since you are
only interested in the Video input.

You can only record SD (480i) on Media Center. Your DVR should output SD
from the S-Video or Composite Video.

Since I don't have a tuner card in my media center (HD Home Run is what I
use) can you recommend a tuner card that is Vista compatible that would have
these inputs.

Why do I need a settop box? I have a flat panel screen connected directly to
my Media Center PC.

Thanks,
Sid.

Check out the many tuners at Hauppauge. Many work in Vista.

If buying a new tuner, I would get one that is compatible with the new
digital TV in the USA (if you are in the USA). The tuner should support ATSC
TV.

All Analog Broadcast TV will end on February 17, 2009 in the USA.

The OP wanted to transfer the recordings on the Panasonic DVR to media
center. The DVR is a settop box.

Will media center support more than two digital tuners? The HD Home Run is a
dual digital tuner and I thought Media center only supported two digital and
two analog tuners.
I am in the USA and aware of the DTV changeover.
Thank you,
Sid.

Is this your tuner?
http://www.9thtee.com/hdhomerun.htm

If I read the information correctly, this tuner is not considered one of the
digital tuners in Media Center. This tuner is a Network device.

I see no reason you can't put another tuner in the Computer.

As far as I know, Media Center will support up to four tuners.

Quote from http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/windowsxp_mce2005_ur2.asp
Microsoft's support of HDTV in Media Center has always been somewhat mixed,
but the situation improves, if only a little, with the addition of UR2 to XP
MCE 2005. In the original shipping version of XP MCE 2005, Microsoft allowed
users to add a single ATSC HDTV tuner card in addition to two (identical) SD
tuner cards. With UR2, it is now possible to configure a Media Center with a
total of four tuner cards, two SD and two HDTV. This enables you to record
four shows at a time (2 HD, 2 SD), assuming you have that many inputs. You
could even theoretically record four shows and watch a recorded show (HD or
SD), simultaneously.

I don't know what Vista supports.

The HD home run does connect to the computer via the network, however, the
drivers for it on the PC support the DBA protocol so the two tuners on the
HDHR appear to MC as two local ATSC OTA tuners.
